A couple of years past and their relationship stayed the same. Scarlet was happy, and by the way he acted around her, she could tell that Andy was happy too. They spent most of there time in the forest, but sometimes they would go out. Whenever they went out, it was usually a field, lake, or ocean that had no one around. He had once taking her into a small town to go shopping.
Scarlet’s head jerked up from the book she was reading. Something in the air told her that Andy was near by. Her heart started to beat faster as she hopped up and walked toward the rim on the forest. There he was, walking along the hillside that was almost out of sight from where she was standing.
“Andy,” Scarlet whispered into the wind. It carried her voice to him, causing him to stop and look towards her. A smile lit up Scarlet’s face when she saw him turn and walk towards the forest. He’s coming, she thought with excitement.
“You see that man almost everyday, so why do you still get excitement.” The forest asked its guardian. Scarlet paid the voice no mind; it knew very well why she still got excitement.
“Yo,” Andy said once he reached her.
“Hi,” Scarlet gave him a shy smile.
It was almost always like this. Whenever Scarlet called him, he’d come to her, even if he had to leave right away. When together, the two of them talked about everything under stars. Since that night two years ago, many of their talks have lead to something more.
“I want to fly into space one day.” Andy told Scarlet one day. He was sitting against a tree staring up at the leaves and the small amount of sunlight that sprinkled through.
“I heard that there’s no air in space, and nothing for your wings to push against.” Scarlet was lying on her stomach next to him.
“I’ll find a way,” he said. Scarlet looked up at him. He face seemed dreamy and peaceful. She sat up and moved closer to him. Her full red lips met his and sparked a passionate kiss.
Later tat night, Scarlet woke up in time to see Andy putting on his shirt. “Why don’t you just stay here for the night?” Scarlet asked.
“I’m a little too restless. I’m going to a walk, want to come?” He asked as he finished with his shirt.
“Yes!” Scarlet get up. With the turn of her right ankle, she activated the magic in her anklet causing her clothing to appear.
“I never said you should get dressed.” Andy said with a smirk on his face.
“Shut up. Let’s go.” Scarlet grabbed his hands and let him lead them out. Scarlet gazed at his form with dreamy eyes.
“Let go of his hand,” the forest said. Scarlet couldn’t answer without Andy hearing her. The forest was no mind reader. Scarlet just ignored the voice. “Let go of his hand. See what happens.” The forest continued.
What would be the point of that? Why would I would to let go when his hand is so warm. She continued to hear the forest telling her to let go. By the time they we’re near the exit Scarlet gave in a let go. Her hand easily slipped from his grip. Scarlet stopped, but Andy didn’t until he was out, even then he only stopped for a second before moving on.
What does this mean? She stood there alone staring at her hand.
The next day, Scarlet woke from the nap when felt that Andy was walking by.
“Don’t call out to him… See what happens.” The forest told Scarlet as she was about to get him to come to her. Scarlet listened, and Andy never came by. Days went by before Scarlet saw Andy again.
“Maybe he thinks I’m not here…” Scarlet said to the forest.
“He could come check, it’s not that hard. Face it girl. He is not thinking about you. You’re not important if to enough. He doesn’t need you, so why should he notice you?” No matter what it was talking about, the tone of the forest’s voice never changed. It always speaks like an old woman who knows a lot of things that young people didn’t. Everything that came from it sounded like wisdom.
“That’s not true! He cares about me. I know he does. You know he does!” As Scarlet talked she tried to calm her aching heart. She thought back to there time together. It was all smiles and happiness. They'd sit and talk, among other things. She couldn't think of any reason he wouldn't come see her on his own. The idea that he may not even be thinking about her when he enters an where he knows she might be in, hurted her very soul. Could it be that I'm not important to him? Does he care so little for me? Maybe I bore him... Maybe he doesn't want to talk to me... I don't want that to be true! No!
“That made be true, but how much? Just look at the facts, he’s not here. Well not ask much as he could be.” The forest then went silent. Scarlet turned around and forced on a happy face. Andy was coming to her.
Some time went on and she saw him less and less. There were times when she would give in and call him to her, but she tried to let him decide if he wanted to see her or not. Most of the time he decided not to come Whenever he did decide to come by, Scarlet’s heart and mind were filled with doubts.
Please say something to make me feel better. Say something to clear my mind. My heart. Please! Scarlet's heart was begging him to see her pain, but he didn't seem able to see-through her cheap, old, weak, and chipped mask that said everything was okay. Soon Scarlet started to softly push Andy away, for it was the only way she knew how to protect herself.
