I jokingly made a post in the GD with the title of "Identify this language? I think you cannot."

The text was in Aquénandi. Here's how it read:

Quote:
Pretan švitem; ko cikwenana tin nämmaxve ši enkwetirje prakoj ko estanakwenani je. Estamnini ši je, estamejþnnini i estamakwennini. Soj kwenanar-slavišt tin maxje, iroj ko kite kwetjo, ni kite-pravdeš. Ši akwenje; i ten pravda ši dyrja.

Coj še na cixostkladat pretjet.

It was accused of being a lot of languages: here's the list:

Al Bhed
Brazilian Portuguese
Croatian
Czech
Elvish
Finnish
Gaelic
Galician
Greek
Hindi
Icelandic
Norwegian
Polish
Portuguese (standard)
Russian
Swahili
Swedish
Welsh

They also accused it of being Amerindian and Semitic without any specifics on which language. mad D

lol! I would imagine something like that would happen. What language was it and can you post the link? I would like to have a guess at it.

Yes it does but my next guess would be Danish.

I was being sarcastic at Mivi, who was amused that anyone thought it looked like Swedish.

Not very good at identifying languages, are you? wink

People don't know things! Besides, before I learned cyrillic, I had no idea how Russian would be transliterated sweatdrop so...

(not saying I would have guessed Russian, saying not many people know how Russian is transliterated. Assuming that it's a transliteration accounts for a lot. Then again, so does being ignorant.)

I don't know...I probably would have guessed something Scandinavian, since I know nothing about those languages, but I saw a thorn in there...

But you saw a LOT of hačeks, and those aren't Scandinavian at all. mad D

We must all keep in mind that although we, as conlangers, may have dabbled in and explored other languages, possibly hundreds... your average person and especially most of the mindless drones in the GD (of all places) can barely tell Russian from Arabic or really any language from any other language which isn't English or their respective native language.

If I took the time to learn Esperanto, I could probably convince a few GDers or random people on the street that Esperanto is the natural language they speak in some Latin American country.

Basically, I'm not surprised in the least that they couldn't even come close, let alone identify it as a constructed language (though a couple did, probably out of sheer guessing). But don't get me wrong, I'm still fairly amused. surprised
