When do you need to first go to the gyno? I know it is about time that I go, being 17, and sexually active and all, but when is the first time a girl should actually go?
How do I go about asking my mum to take me? Cause I still have yet to get my drivers licence.
What will the Dr. do on your first visit there, and can I request a female gyno?
Where can I find a respectable Dr. to visit? Are there websites I can visit? Places to call?
Is there anything else I should be aware of before stepping in the office?

If you're sexually active, you should go. It's best to make sure nothing's wrong and everything's working properly.

I'm not really sure how you can ask your mom for a ride to the gyno, but I can answer your other questions. You can go ahead and get a female gyno. They try to make you comfortable.

When you get there, the first thing they'll do is weigh you and take your blood pressure. After that, you're escorted to a room with the stirrup table, and you'll be given a robe. You will have to take off everything (yes, EVERYTHING) and put the robe on. The opening should face the front. They'll leave you alone in the room to do it so you're not embarrassed. But make sure you shave, moisturize, or whatever to make yourself less embarrassed. And remember, a shower is a must.

When the gyno comes in, you'll be asked to place your feet in the stirrups on the table/chair thingie. The gyno will feel your breasts and the area around your uterus and fallopian tubes for any lumps. When the gyno goes inside, he or she will use lube, so don't worry.

Since you're sexually active, they'll probably use the speculum to spread you open. The gyno then puts a couple of lubed fingers inside and feels for bumps. When you get the Pap smear, it's either done with a giant Q-tip or a thing that looks like a giant mascara stick. It feels weird, but not necessarily painful. During the ones where there is pain, it's only for a split second.

Once everything's done, you can get dressed, ask the gyno any questions, and be on your way.

Mythrilmercury pretty much said it all. 3nodding

Rule of thumb is to go when you're 18, or when you're sexually active, whichever comes first. After that you need to go at least once a year. If you ever need to get tested for STD's, they'll also give you a partial physical then too (with the speculum and swabs).

Be sure to check if you have medical insurance (I forgot to check where you lived, sorry), otherwise if you're in the US it might cost you for the examination and the physical.

The physical is only painful if you're tensed up. So when they use the speculum to spread you open, put their fingers inside, etc, try looking at the ceiling and counting tiles, or talking to the gyno. Wiggling my toes really worked for me. The more you're relaxed, the less it'll hurt.

Kay, thank you very much.
Also: I am considering the Pill. Do I ask about that at the gyno, or my normal doctor? And where can my boyfriend get tested for STDs? Because we both need to get that done soon.

Some people don't have a gyno, so they use their normal doctor I think. Most clinics have a gyno I think though (or they should at least), so you can ask for a gyno at your normal doctor's office and see what they say.

Getting tested for STD's can also be done by the gyno, same place.

What's wrong?!

She pretty much said it all. My mom's a gyno.
So if you have any questions just send me a
message and I can pass it through her.

i am 15, and i am a month and a half pregnant with twins. I have never been to a gyno before, and i was just wondering if girls who are pregnant get exams at the gyno just like non- pregnant girls and women. Also, what does a gyno do during an exam? I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me. Thanks in advance.

If you want to know what the gynecologist does during a typical exam, read this thread and the stickies in this forum, as that has already been explained. You'll need to have all of the stuff that mythril described earlier in this post done. You can also check out the pregnancy subforum's stickies.

You need to go to the ob-gyn when you become sexually active. If you are currently pregnant, you needed to go the ob-gyn a while age. Pregnant women need to go to the ob-gyn even more often than non-pregnant women. Most non-pregnant women only have to go once a year. You need to see an ob-gyn, and you need to see one very quickly since you're long overdue at this point. I suggest calling and making an appointment for as soon as they can see you.

How do you know you are pregnant with twins if you are only a month and a half along and have never seen an ob-gyn?

Another helpful article at Scarleteen: http://www.scarleteen.com/article/pink/your_first_gynecologist_visit

You can ask your GP or gyno about hormonal birth control. Your boyfriend can ask his GP about STD tests.

you should start seeing a gyno when you become sexually active or turn 18. Ask your doctor for a refference.
