Kione let out a snort at her question, before looking up towards the errant fireflies around them. Most were decently high up and, taking pity on his small daughter, the lion stood and walked over to them. He may not be the most athletic, but he could catch a bug. Besides, if that fail date was any indication, oddly glowing things seemed to like to gravitate towards him.

And he was right. Not even a minute into walking over to them and one of the fireflies came fluttering over, attracted by how the lion seemed to glow under it's light. The problem with such white fur? It reflected light really well.

Placing a paw over the bug (and grimacing slightly at the feel), he hobbled with three legs back over to Miniya, grabbed her sort of sad looking container, and quickly stuffed it in.

"There you go."

Miniya stared as she watched him do all of this, not really expecting her father to actually help her but also grateful that she didn't have to try and catch one of those things. She had a feeling she'd just make a fool of herself. She could just imagine herself jumping up and down, and getting laughed at, and....

She jumped as he swung the container closed, timid purple eyes looking up at him. "... Oh, okay."

Now... now what did they do? He had sat down now and was just looking back at the crowd, so she guessed... maybe they wait for whatever? The Amusu said something about leading them. She supposed it was something like that.

(This post is for Sawa, this roll is for Zuko, this roll is for Ruaka)

"Probably," Sawa agreed, doing her best to make a little basket out of leaves and twigs with small enough holes so the bugs couldn't escape, but large enough so it didn't completely seal them up and let no light out. It wasn't the prettiest of cages but it would do, she supposed.

"All right...now let's see..." She spotted a flickering, bouncing light not far from where she stood and with a gentle paw reached out to coax the small bug towards her. It bumped into her paw and turned around to fly lazily into the cage she held up with her mouth, and after a little finessing the long grass the lid closed. The bug seemed quite happy inside and the light flared brightly, streaming through the holes in the basket.

"Not bad," Zuko said as he finished his own. It didn't look much better than Sawa's but that didn't matter much. As long as it held up for a decent amount of time, long enough for the spirits to find their way.

A second firefly zoomed around the pair, clearly looking for the other bug that had been flying around moments before. Rather than coaxing it gently, Zuko lifted his trap and swooped it towards the bug quickly, catching it in one go. He almost lost it as he tried to get the lid on, but thankfully the bug bumped into one of the walls and fell to the bottom before it could find its way out.

"There!" the dark male said with triumph as his little lantern glowed just as brightly as Sawa's. "That's not too bad either."

---

Ruaka watched as Kokayi began to stalk the little bugs, her tail twitching back and forth in mild amusement as he did so. It was like he was hunting hares, keeping low to the ground as if the bugs might see him coming. They weren't usually prey of creatures quite so large and had no idea what was coming.

The look on Kokayi's face as he caught the bugs in his mouth drew a little giggle from the pale lioness and she lifted a paw to cover her muzzle, hiding her amusement just a bit. But the male was successful and his lantern had a dim but pleasant glow to it.

"Good job," she said, bending down to pick up her own basket with her teeth carefully. She felt as though she had done a good job weaving the grasses together and indeed, the container looked incredibly sturdy. She moved into a little swarm of the bugs with the empty container and came back with a few that had bumbled their way in own their own. She worked quickly to tie the lid down and after giving it a little bump with her paw, a dim but definitely present glow came from within.

"I'd call that a success as well."

Khwezi yawned as he joined most of the pride for... what was it again? Oh yeah, they had been talking about seeing whisps or something. Which meant that the dead were... well doing something. He wasn't sure what though, but from what he had heard, some had whispered that the wisps were some sort of omen, though he found that came from the more paranoid lions. For now, it seemed that they were going to help lead the wisps to the right path... somehow. He didn't know most of the intricacies, and he was only barely a hunter. He cared more about getting the next meal.

Still, they were supposed to venerate the dead, and he would be doing his part to help the pride. He briefly saw his sister, but was unable to talk to her for the moment, but would try to do so later.

They were then, a bit too quickly in Khwezi's opinion, supposed to be build containers to capture fireflies. He shrugged at the task, but did so anyway, making sure to craft the container carefully, and in the end he thought his container was pretty good. But he would have to capture a firefly to make sure, and was a bit embarrassed at the thought. The last time he had tried to capture fireflies was when he was a cub. Now he had to do it in his huge adult body. This would be... interesting at least.

It seemed that sufficient progress had been made and despite the otherwise weary expression upon the Priest's face, it was evident that he was satisfied. One might have been so bold as to say that he was amused by some of those who were not necessarily as good with their paws as others - quite frankly their young Onyeisi and his sister's contraption, left much to be desired.

...Evidently their skills lay in things other than arts and crafts.

Pressing his lips together the priest gave a curt nod and swept away from the pride, back towards the depths of their lands. His aim was not to invite them in to the catacombs, but one might say that the path to peace did lie within them and they would need to start from there and branch out. For those lions who had always followed the word of law well, they might not necessarily be entirely certain of where these catacombs were. If anything, they may have chosen to avoid the general area than risk the wrath of the ancestors.

There were, however, beaten trails that each lion would soon see and it would be from there that he would let them branch out.

The Onyeisi, Itiri, was one of those who had already lost his firefly but he had elected to follow the Priest for the time being. He was more interested in hearing the further instructions now, than catch another of these little blighters and have no idea what to do with it!

Thus, it was with this in mind that he gave a nod of beckoning towards his sister and clipped his uh... container around his neck. Certain that the pride were smart enough to have spotted the priest moving, he had no doubt that they would follow when each had their tools and were ready to participate further...

Zobuhle fastened her flimsy case to herself and began to trod next to Budek. The outing was so nice. She watched her children fondly before her eyes moved to her husband. ”This is lovely,” she murmured happily. ”I couldn’t imagine being without you, still in Ithambo’hlabathi.. I do miss my family but I think I’m much happier here, with you,” she told him. Her eyes moved back to the kids… and promptly back forward; if she ignored what was happening, she didn’t have to play Mom, right?

Because currently, Diallo was carrying the container and watching Azmera sneak up behind Isabis. Diallo gave his lighter sister a frown but… didn’t raise a protest; he didn’t want to be involved, after all. It was better to just pretend he didn’t notice. Azmera stuck her tongue out at him before crouching low… before bounding forward, practically pouncing on top of Isabis.

”How’d you make your container so much better? Didja cheat?” she pestered, in the mood to just be generally annoying.

Juu watched as the firefly her brother had captured escaped and followed along after her brother and the priest as they walked down one of the beaten paths. She hoped that their combined effort would allow the spirits to find their way to wherever it was they had come from.

He had no doubts that she missed her family, she had uprooted everything for him and he had never asked her to do that, not once. "Yes, yes it is." Looking at the children as they were doing their best with their contraptions.

Looking over towards her gave her a love felt lean. "You think do you. Should I be worried you're going to get cold feet and disappear on me." Teasing her a little bit.

- - - - -

Narrowing her eyes she quickly erased the expression, "And what if I did? You're just jealous because mine is nicer than yours. I just took a bit more time and concentration to get mine done is all." Taking a peek at her siblings she had to admit it wasn't terrible, they just bickered too much with one another. "Yours looks pretty good too."

Itiri cast a side long glance towards Juu and shook his head, how was it that they had both managed to make a categorically awful container and yet she had somehow managed to persuade her darling firefly to stay inside it? Politician he might have been but it appeared that on this occasion he didn't have the firefly vote; something for him to work on perhaps.

...Did anyone even know how to converse with bugs here?

He shook his head as the priest came to a halt near the outskirts of the catacombs and made a motion towards the beaten trail that the priests so often walked. While none but they were truly allowed to walk beyond this point it was clear that generations of walking the same road had ensured it would never be difficult to find.

"Have you noticed he isn't feeling particularly ah... Talkative?" Itiri mused and shook his head. "They're not the most charismatic of individuals," he added and waggled his brow. Truth be told it seemed that the older the priests got the more stuffy they got, but hopefully they would all find a way of making sure Nche in particular didn't suffer the same fate! The young adult was far too nice to be destined to a dreary and sour-faced life.

"Maybe that's why the spirits went for a wander, they were in need of more stimulating conversation," he murmured. Not that he should have been making light of the situation. After all, there was every possibility that his suspicions were correct and the spirits in question were not pleasant.

...Only those who had been forbidden to move on still wandered in purgatory after all.

Kokayi watched her gather her firefly and then perked up as the group seemed to start moving. He hadn't even noticed anyone saying it was time to get going.

Leaning down quickly to gather up his container, he nodded at Ruaka and muttered out a muffled, "Well, let's see what we're supposed to do with these."

That said, he turned and began following after the congregation of lions.

It looked like they were moving now. Miniya bit at her lip for a second, suddenly tempted to use the time to make a run for it, but her father's eyes were on her, and she likely wouldn't make it far. Plus... she couldn't exactly leave this little bug and the spirits all alone like that, and Kione wasn't likely to carry it like everyone else.

So, tentatively, the lioness snatched up the container and started walking, eyes constantly looking back to make sure her father was following.

The hobbled together container looked like it was barely being held together too, and she sort of regretted picking it up so roughly like she had. Hopefully it would hold up....

Kione let out a snort as he watched his daughter fumble her way forward, but he followed along regardless. Much like Itiri, he was curious to see where they were going and what exactly they were meant to do. At the very least, it should be interesting to watch.

[N'EZI-OZU OFFICIAL RP PROMPT]

The Priest had already caught sight of one Firefly disappearing into the depths of the forest again, no doubt it came from one of the less secured contraptions and he really wouldn't have been surprised if it was Itiri's. Nevertheless, he would leave the Onyeisi to figure that conundrum out; his duty was to focus on those who did have a measure of skill.

When he was sure that most had followed he came to a halt and placed himself between the final steps into the Catacombs and the pride. They would have no permission to enter today, but they would have leave to surrounded them (if necessary) at much closer quarters than the priests were generally comfortable with.

...The discomfort of the priests was irrelevant when settling the dead.

"Your task, while simple, is an important one," He said at last, gravelly in tone but easy enough to hear.

"You must form chains outwards into the forest... One of you must act as a shepherd and guide the wisps towards you while those nearby act as lit pathways," he explain and motioned towards the catacombs. "With you to guide them, they will no longer be lost and should return to their place of rest..."

"For those that do not follow, there will be other opportunities to tend to them, but we must first gather those who are willing to follow you back home," he paused briefly and hazarded a very rare, but genuine, smile.

"If they do not follow you immediately leave those to the other Priests and I; it is important that you do not test the patience of those who are less pleasant and undeserving of the right to pass over."

[You are free to make up whether wisps do are do not follow you at this stage, for those who do follow you they will move towards the catacombs naturally with you and any of your fellow RPers you're paired with.]

(1/6 for Sawa, 1/6 for Zuko, 1/10 for Ruaka)

"Oh! We're going!" Sawa said, picking up her little lantern and trotting after the group of lions. She seemed right at home with the makeshift container in between her jaws, used to carrying plants to and fro in her youth. This was a bit different, of course, since they had woven the baskets together, but it was still delicate and one wrong bite could send it and the fireflies tumbling to the ground. She listened intently to the instructions given to them by the Priest before turning to head towards the forest, hoping to make a chain.

"Let's go, Zuko," she said around her mouthful. "I hope this will work. The poor spirits floating around, unsure of where to go..."

Zuko followed along as well, less comfortable carrying his own lantern but determined to help. He flinched as one of the wisps circled around the glowing fireflies before floating off towards the catacombs. Watching it go, he let out a slow breath before turning to the bright lioness beckoning for him to follow.

"If it doesn't, we're in trouble," he muttered, his words jumbled and hard to hear thanks to the woven handle in his mouth. Ugh...he wasn't sure which was worse. The floating, unsettled ancestors or the fact that he had woven a basket out of leaves and was now toting around bugs. Very undignified in his opinion.

---

Ruaka walked with the group, keeping close to Kokayi. She paused as the group did and watched the other lions begin to spread out, making chains through the forest that led back towards the caves. She spotted one that looked a little short and motioned for Kokayi to join her at the end of it.

"Hopefully this will help," she said, ears pressed back against her head as she watched one of the wisps terrorize a lion further down the line. Oh dear...hopefully it wasn't making them angry.

"I can't imagine what it must be like to be a lost spirit."

Kokayi, meanwhile, was slightly amused at the commotion going on in their line, but simply hummed back in response. "Aside from that guy, it doesn't look like they're mad about it." For the most part, it did seem like wisps were following the other lines, and in fact, he could see a few coming close to them as well.

He watched the wisps with a wary look for a moment, fur spiking up on his back as he realized that there were a couple brushing noiselessly close to him. For all of his bravado, it did make him a little bit nervous. The calm that Ruaka was exuding helped to smooth some of his nerves though.

He shook his head, trying to ignore the wisps trailing around them. "I guess it depends on if they can think. Maybe they just... follow their feelings instead, and don't even really know what they're doing?" That sounded silly out loud, but it was what he was thinking about.

((Weak Container - post 2/4 before it breaks out))

This little band of lions was amusing to watch, he had to admit. With a raised eyebrow, Kione observed as the lines began forming... and then froze as he realized that crap, it really was attracting some wisps. Flashbacks of his previous encounter with them made his breathe hitch and for a moment, he threw a look around him to see if he could spot Afya anywhere nearby. Surely she wasn't as composed about this either, right?

Taking a deep breath, and ignoring the questioning look from his daughter, he held his head up high and kept walking. He refused to show weakness in front of his pride.

.... Though maybe he could tap out soon here. Technically, the meeting was over. Afya couldn't get mad at him for not sticking around after.

Almost as if hearing his thoughts, Miniya whined and scuttled closer to his side. She hadn't run into the wisps up close before, and his nervousness was making her nervous too. Then again, when wasn't she anyway?

Still, after her father nudged her forward, the lioness stumbled her way over to the nearest line, uncaring that it had a decent amount of lions in it already, and shakily walked forward with laser-focused eyes staring straight ahead.

The container in her mouth shook as she walked, and she hardly noticed that it was beginning to tear in places....

He would have liked to continue, but as he lacked a particularly reliable container at this moment in time he would be of little help to the rest of the pride. It was with this in mind that he gave a nod to the priest, motioned to his rather dismal trinket and took his leave. He would be back in due time, but as it would take him a considerable amount of effort to make something that wasn't fundamentally flawed.

With this in mind he would set about backtracking towards where they had previously gathered their materials and all being well, he might be able to assist further.

No sooner had he made this decision than the young ruler had drifted away from the small groups of lions that were actively working towards following the priest's instructions, and back towards where he had come from. Unsurprisingly he was left to his own devices and it wasn't long before he had disappeared from view...leaving the rest of the pride to do what they could in this challenge.

If they were finished by the time he was done then he would be grateful, otherwise he might see them again in an hour or two.

For now though? The leader had taken his leave and wouldn't be back for a while...

[No more posts from Itiri for now, mule post coming soon to tie off some bits and pieces.]

Their efforts would continue for some time, and in the course of their attempts they would find that there would be those wisps that did behave, and those that did not.

Nevertheless as the night continued there would be challenges, there would be fun and there would be fear. How the pride reacted was up to each and every individual that existed within it. Some would be more receptive than others and the priest had no desire to chastise those who showed a measure of fear and concern for what was unnatural.

...That was a healthy reaction.

Alas, as the dawn drew near it would become clear that while they had managed to coax a number of wisps into the depths of the pride's catacombs, they hadn't managed to get them all. It appeared that on this occasion the priests would still have a great deal of work to do and in this, they might not necessarily be against some volunteers...

[You may continue to RP until you feel your RPs have reached a natural end; in terms of timelines this event ends at 'dawn' when the wisps would dissipate. We need to close out this RP now as we're preparing the new one so that you can have new lions join and both can't overlap! Apologies this one dragged out for so long guys, the joining one should be nice and easy.]
