Shockstar was at his usual venue this morning, sitting on a bench in the park, bolt shaped tail twitching behind him every now and then. Except today his focus was on something other than his usual.
Well almost.
Instead of the real deal, the yellow colt was nose deep into his hand held game system, hooves tapping rapidly at the buttons and arrows as he played his favorite Pocket Monster game. Eight bit music emanated loudly from the speakers keeping any birds or critters at a distance. His tongue was stuck out and lolled to one side sharply in intense focus. What seemed like ages for the colt finally came to a pause as he set down the game and let out a breath.
"Man. These simulations sure get hard. I wonder if its really like that out adventuring...." he mused to himself, pausing to glance at a familiar flock of birds he had now dubbed his nemesis's. "I wish I could have training like that for real...." he sighed, raising a hoof to scratch idly at an ear as he momentarily lost himself in thought.

Bushido’s day was filled to the brim with training; first it was meditation in the morning, then calligraphy lessons before a light lunch. Later it was kendo, and her personal favourite, soccer. As focused as she was to becoming an honourable warrior, letting all her daily frustrations out on the field while chasing after a ball was much more exciting than meditating. With all this in mind, and her steps carrying her towards the soccer field where she would first do her own special stretches before everyone else arrived, it wasn’t strange for her to utter out loud, unmindful of who might be nearby, “all this training is exhausting.”

Shockstar had picked up his game system again and was about to unpause the level when he heard a certain set of words that caused his dark gaze to travel over and land on one dark little filly with a mane and tail that kinda reminded him of the holidays.
But she had definitely mentioned training! Was she an angel sent to help guide?
HECK YEAH SHE WAS!
Pushing himself off the bench at high speed, Shockstar galloped to a halt in front of the filly, eyes wide, smile wider. "CAN YOU PLEASE TRAIN ME?!" he blinked, nearly panting from happiness. He had only ever met one other filly who had helped him train, his first and bestest friend Out of Orbit. He so hoped to add another to that list!

Bushido prided herself on being stoic and not easily startled, but there was no stopping the surprised ‘eep!’ when a colt suddenly galloped right in front of her and yelled. At first she didn’t understand what he was saying, the words sinking in slowly. Then - “Train you?” She repeated. Train him in what? Soccer, meditation, fencing? Had he been watching her? They’d never met. Was he an admirer? Did she have an admirer? How absurd! “I... okay?” Bushido said, still looking confused and not really sure why she agreed but uncertain how to say no in the face of such enthusiasm and happiness.

The yellow colt almost couldn't believe his luck today and was absolutely beside himself! When she said okay his heart skipped a beat and so did he. He did a half jump before grinning madly.
"I can just tell by looking at you that you are super strong! I'm so so so excited to have a chance to learn from you!" he gasped, tail bobbing behind him. He shuffled from one hoof to another as he waited impatiently.
'What will she start with first?' Shockstar wondered, thinking to himself. It took all he had not to think out loud. He didn't want to ruin the surprise even though the other half of him so badly wanted to know where to start first!

As baffled as she still was, Bushido understood that she had been given the great and important task of teacher. This stranger clearly saw her as some sort of mentor; perhaps he had seen her on the field or watched her training? Perhaps he too longed to learn the ancient art of kendo? Well, they would get to that later. “Follow me,” she said, sounding far more certain than she felt. She led him down the path to the soccer field (her parents were paying for lessons after all, she couldn’t exactly miss it...) and marched him into the middle of the large oval. “Are you ready?” They would just go through some stretches until she figured out what else to do with him.

She sounded so serious the more she spoke and he couldn't help but bristle in excitement. "Yes Master!" he nodded and followed her down to the soccer field. When the reached the field, he expected them to keep going.
But they didn't.
Slightly confused, Shockstar glanced around. He didn't see any monsters around to collect or even a dummy to practice on. Maybe she had some of her own he would train against?
The thought excited him even more! "I am SO SO ready!!"

Being called master nearly had her fall over her own hooves, but she recovered, knowing he really didn’t mean the term in the way a warrior would devote themselves to a lord or teacher. He was just... excitable. “Right,” she said, dragging out the moment. “Just... stand in front of me and mirror my movements.” Then she started her stretches. First one with her head bend between her legs, rear up and legs stretched. “Hold for twenty seconds.” Then they moved on to the next post. “Now stand on hind legs and,” she demonstrated stretching her front legs to the right. “Hold for ten seconds and then shift to the other side.”

Shockstar took a deep breath, still grinning, his mouth popped open in ready agreement...
...then he paused.
He eyed her doing the stretches, now thoroughly confused. He tilted his head to one side, then the other. He glanced this way and that, at everyone around them and not around them, then back at the filly. "Um.....what?" he blinked, trying to imitate her pose after pose but finally he just stopped completely. "What are you doing?" he blurted out, his excitement gone.

Bushido could sense his growing confusion every time she moved into a different pose. Sure, it wasn’t very interesting but it wasn’t meant to be. She lifted her head out of another stretch and peered up at him. “Stretching is essential before any training exercise,” she told him with a frown.

”I...ah.”
Shockstar looked her over again before dropping into another stretch move.
Something just didn’t make sense to him though. He had never stretched before....and it wasn’t exactly mentioned in any of the training manules (comic books) or hald held training games. ”Erm... does this really help tho? I mean.... does it make throwing easier or something?” he asked with his head between his legs, one hoof stuck awkwardly in the air and his bolt shaped tail jutting at an odd angle.
It was a wonder how he wasn’t face first into the ground by now.

Bushido pulled up out her stretch and stared at him. “You don’t throw in soccer,” she said, puzzled, and then, “or kendo.” And here was the problem: the fact that she didn’t know exactly what training he was after. A bit embarrassed, she looked aside. “I am... sorry. You will need to be a bit more specific with what training you wanted.”

Soccer.
Kendo.
Shockstar nearly fell over as he attempted to right himself and stare blankly at the filly. Seems some serious misunderstanding was going on. "I thought.... you were a trainer..." he paused then made himself more specific. "A pocket monster trainer..." he blinked.
He could now feel the heat rise to his already orange spotted cheeks as he realized just how badly he misjudged the situation. "Aahhh....ha..ha..." he attempted to shake off his embarrassment with a very weak laugh.

She stared at him for a long time, too confused to be embarrassed. “A... what?” Bushido questioned. Then the words took on meaning in her mind and she looked at him again, this time taking in his unique appearance, the tail, the red spots on his cheek and his remarkable resemblance to - “Oh my! You thought I was a Pokemon trainer?” She blurted out. Bushido couldn’t help it, she started to laugh. “I thought,” she said between giggles, “you wanted me to teach you,” another bubble of laughter, “how to play soccer.” And to think she’d thought she had some sort of admirer. How silly. “I’m so sorry. I wish I was. That would have been fun.”

When she started laughing Shockstar allowed himself to ease up a bit and laugh too.
He rubbed a hoof through his mane and offered a sheepish apology. "Sorry about that! I guess I got overly excited." he laughed again, his pointy tail bobbing.
At least she knew what he was talking about unlike other fillies. "Maybe some day then I can train you and you can teach me some soccer!" he grinned thru a giggle, holding out a hoof in gesture of friendship.
