"Oh no no no don't be afraid-- oh..." The mare cooed at the rabbit that took off running at the sight of her. She stood, dejected, watching it scamper off into the tall grass. It was always so sad how the little furry creatures ran from her, when all she wanted was a familiar like her mama. She loved Aera! She was too cute! But she was not born with her mama's heavenly wings, and her demonic bat wings gave these small critters the wrong impression. Persephone couldn't hurt a fly! So it was always a direct hit to her heart when the little ones ran away.

After one last longing look in the direction the rabbit took off in, she turned to continue walking through the grass. It hit her chest high, and barely tickled as she walked slowly through it. She was headed in no general direction, but during a flight she saw the grass below and how pretty it looked in the setting sun, and fancied a walk. She was so easily distracted, it was a good thing she really had no where to be. Persephone mulled quietly over how maybe it would be nice to be needed somewhere, but it was also pleasant to do what she felt like and if that included stopping to smell every rose and see every pretty sight. That in itself made traveling alone worth it.

User Image Like a moth to a flame, he watched her.

Truth be told, he had been watching her for a while, just observing. Her small frame and girly exterior had been a welcome sight after an unsuccessful hunt, and his feigning interested piqued. It had been quite some time since his eyes had beheld something as innocent and delicate as she, and he knew if he walked away, he'd be consumed with thought for the remaining daylight. So he stayed. The large stallion kept his distance, peering through the shadows that enveloped his being, and just watched. She was so small; compared to him anyone was small, but she had this...sweetness to her that made her size seem vastly smaller. It intrigued him.

A bloody, gaping grin. She had the potential to be lots of fun. His games never lasted for too long, as for one reason or another he'd get bored. The last mare who graced him with her presence certainly was feisty, but she got complacent, annoying. Plus she hated him, and talking to her proved to be far more of a challenge than he was willing to take on. So he moved on, slinking back into the night that filled his soul, stalking the outskirts of the shadows in hopes of finding something new.

Something...better.

The small brown mare that currently held the stallion's interest had kept his interest not because she was partially a Kalona, like he, but because she was almost anything but. Observing her had told him she was gentle, perhaps kind...the opposite of what her breed calls for. He suspected she felt alienated due to her heritage, which only captivated him more. She was a perfect pawn in a twisted little game of deception -- he only need to prey upon that small ounce of her that was indeed very Kalona-like. A few choice words, and he could be playing her exactly as he wanted.

Not yet, however. If he pounced too quickly, he could scare her off, and well....where would be the fun in that? This encounter was purely entertainment, and if he chased off his prey before he got to play with it, well, consider that another failed hunt. He huffed. No. He'd wait until the timing was perfect.

In the tall grass she seemed to virtually disappear, and it would have been difficult to tell her exact movements if he hadn't been watching her so closely. By now, he could tell she had no particular place to be, and instead was just out enjoying herself, as any mare had the right to do. The absentmindedness of it all made his desire increase tenfold, did she not know what lurked in the shadows of the universe? It was not quite night -- his true comfortable hunting grounds -- but not all that goes bump in the night literally lurks at night. She seemed unawares, completely wrapped up in her own little happy world, and it made him want to reach out and grab her right then. Just take her, away from potential danger or toward it, he didn't know. He wanted her to see, see what could happen to her if she wasn't paying attention.

Oh it drove him mad. She was blinded by thought, she had no idea he was even there....

Or so he assumed, with great certainty. Most of them didn't know he followed them, and he mastered the art of silent creeping. Only a couple steady, calm breaths were all that could have been heard, and she was much too far to have heard those. With every footstep she took, he took the same, watching, waiting, intrigued by her delicate actions more and more with each passing step.

And then, she spoke. His yellow, glowing eyes shot open, all senses focused directly onto that voice. She was speaking to a.....forest creature, it may have been, he couldn't quite tell, or care. Aha! He was right, her Kalona heritage was something she was ashamed of, by the looks of her reaction to the creature, and oh, that voice! A deep breath, and the stallion knew it was time to come say hello.

Using the shadows as a protector and a guide, he quietly slinked toward her.
