It was an later afternoon, after school at had gotten out when Rogue Gallery enter his parent's small cafe, Crown Cup. The bell above the door chimed, signalling his entrance. As it rang, Rogue winced, thinking to himself that one day he'd figure out how to sneak through without letting it ding. Being the last bab of his family, he was expected to spend a good chunk of his afternoon under supervision (or as his parents put it, working). He was much to early for his shift, and it was un usual that he would quite so punctual. Rogue often preferred to waste as much time as possible following his own interests outside the cafe. But here he was and he quickly scurred across the cafe back behind the counter. With shifty glances, he looked around the room, and believing no one to be watching, took several pastries and biscuits from the display case and put them into a brown paper bag. That bag was then carefully placed into his satchel like it was a treasure, making sure not to crush anything.

Royal Blossom hummed to herself, magic-ing a large, heavy container of water from the sink to the boiler. Keeping plenty of hot water on hand was key to making sure coffee and other hot, caffeinated beverages flowed freely and with as little delay as possible all day. The front bell jingled. Royal glanced over the swinging partition doors to see if she could recognize a familiar mane, horn, or voice coming in. Instead, a set of small, instantly recognizable hoofs quickly, but quietly zip past the kitchen door. She smiled, her youngest son had arrived from school. "Ro.." her began to call out to him but movement on monitor that showed the back of the counter caught her eye. She watched as her foal picked out several of the pastries from the case and place them into a paper bag, and that bag go into his personal bag. The unicorn was puzzled. Rogue knew if he was hungry he could come into the back and get a freshly made snack, so why would he just take from the case? "Hmm.."

He wasn't quite the adept thief and did not feel the eyes of his mother upon him. Assuming that he was still the clear, Rogue Gallery continued on his way. With treats in toe, the little unicorn zipped out from behind the counter and darted for the door. This time his exit was timed well with the entry of another customer, the bab slipping out the door as an earth phony came in. As he left the cafe, the small unicorn trotted along down the block before turning a corner.

"Darling!" she called to her husband, Brulee, "I have to step out for a few minuets, can you watch the front?" She pulled off her apron and with a quick greeting and assurances to their recently arrived customers that they would be served soon, she slipped past the and after her son. It was curiosity more then anything that drove Royal to follow her boy. It wasn't like him to just take from the store and then sneak away.

Rogue rounded the corner and continued to a little dingy looking alcove in front of a spooky looking store. Huddled up in the corner of that alcove were two phonies, one adult who looked like they had seen many better days in the park and one bab close to Rogue's age. The adult's special talent was in holding spooky seances during Halloween, and during the summer business wasn't as good as it could be. The pair sat outside their shop, the door closed as the slow season meant few and far between customers were visiting. The location was good in the fall when tourists came for the spoopy experiences, but in the summertime when everyone wanted to be outside enjoying the sun the shop was lucky to make rent. Rogue Gallery, despite his thieving ways, had a soft spot for the down on their lucky family. Everyone deserved a treat and baking goods were never in short supply. The colt came up to the family and greeted them with a little bow. "I haven't seen you around too much lately and it looked like you could use a little pick me up... so I brought you these." He pulled the bag of treats out from his bag and handed them off to the filly close to his age. The small girl opened the bag and her miserable expression shifted to smile, " Look papa! Cookies!".

Royal Blossom tailed her son slowly, letting him get a little ahead before catching right back up. He was fast, but she knew the streets better. She hid in the shadows as watched him. She'd never noticed this little hole in the wall before and she'd wondered how he'd found it. Perhaps the filly was a classmate of his. The mother's heart warmed when he handed over the snuck out sweets to the small family. Despite how much she inwardly fretted, it seemed she and her husband had raised one good kid in the least. Not wanting to be caught out, Royal turned and disappeared back into the streets. Brulee was going to have to agree to her idea and she had to convince him of it before Rogue came home.

Having done his good deed for the day, Rogue Gallery said his good byes to the pair and made his way home. It was not long before he appeared back the shop and was confronted by his mother.

Royal went about the rest of the day, pretending she hadn't seen anything. She instructed Rogue on his chores, served customers, and worked hard in the kitchen. When the last customer had left for the night, she told Rogue to turn the sign over to Closed as she did the end of day counts. "Rogue..." she said evenly "Do you know why we're short some cookies and biscuits? She held up the register with her magic, pointing out how many they'd made, how many they'd sold, and how many she'd just counted. The magically held pencil tapped the final count number. She wondered if he'd tell her the real story.

"Biscuits?" Rogue looked away from his mother has if he was thinking. "Do we sell those?," he smirked a bit and gave a light laugh. The colt knew he was caught out, but that didn't mean he still couldn't have teeny bit of fun and tease out a confession. "Oh yeah... those treats form the glass display. I guess we do sell those." Rogue looked down at his crimson-magenta hooves. "Caught me red hoofed. I took them. I can pay for them if I have to, but I needed them right away." While he would admit to the crime, Rogue was slower to admit to being a kind, decent phony.

Royal blinked. Wait. That was easy. Too easy. The mare peered down at her son, trying to read his expression or maybe psychically pierce into his brain. She couldn't do that but maybe if he THOUGHT she could, maybe the real truth would come out. "I can see your real motives." she declares confidently. "You can't hide from your mother, I'm a unicorn, I can see it all." She makes her horns sparkle with magic to empathize her point. "Now how about you tell me the REAL reason before I'm forced to give you the worst headache of your life?" zippedsiren From his mother, he learns extortion

There was absolutely nothing more terrifying that a threat from his mother; she was a warrior princess once upon a time, or so the story she told went. Even if it was a thinly veiled bluff, Rogue just could not take that chance. "Alright, alright, holster that magic of your's mum. I was . . ., " he huffed and paused, as it was hard to admit. Rogue tried to maintain his mystique, but there was no getting by his mother. "I took them to give to this girl and her dad alright? You know the bloke who owns the mystic shop around the corner? I guess things are tight, so I figured they could use a treat, when we have a lot."

"Oh." This took a moment to register. Emotions ran across Royal's face quiet rapidly. Surprise that her son was doing this very altruistic thing, suspicion on what his motives were, guilt that she's even doubting his motives, and then finally concern. "Oh...are they? Really? Mmm...I suppose that makes sense, there is a lot of competition for that around here. He should really get into another business, his is so seasonal and your sister has a pretty tight hold in this area in most magical things." She briefly wondered what Nevermore was doing before getting back on track. "Listen, it's almost time for dinner anyway. How about you go get those two and invite them over for a good, warm meal. It would probably sound great coming from you since you already know them. Then we can talk about what we can do to actually help."

Like the good boy he sometimes was, Rogue followed his mother's directions. Royal trailing behind him, Rogue turned back to the father and filly's store. After a few minutes of coaxing guided by Royal's persistence in not taking no as an answer to their invitation, the date was set. After an hour or two, the small family joined Rogue's family in their cafe. His parents were busy chatting away to the father about business ideas to boost sales for the ailing company, including hosting a seance party in their own cafe (surely Nevermore would forgive them for having anyone else be their spook professional for an evening). Meanwhile, Rogue lead by his parent's example and discussed with the filly how school was going, keeping her happy stuffed with cookies while the grown ups did their thing.
