Lucy looked up from the caterpillars she was studying at the sound of someone coming towards her. She took in the appearance of her dad - light coloured and tall. "Would you like to hear a story?" Lorcan asked. He was smiling, but, his eyes looked tired.

Lucy looked away, briefly glancing at the caterpillars before turning towards the sky. Her gray eyes - so very like her dad's - took in the shades of pink, yellow, and orange that filled the sky. The sunset was exquisite. It was quite late then, no wonder her dad had come looking for her. "Now?" Lucy responded with her own question. Lorcan would often tell his stories with her older brother present, however, surely Ainsley Loren must be at home. Lucy looked around again, just in case she had missed her zealous brother. No, Ainsley was not here.

"Can't think of a better time then now." Lorcan's smiled grew. He looked hopeful yet content, as if nothing could dampen his mood.

Her family didn't usually stick to routines, but, they always tried to eat their evening meal together during the sunset. Although Lucy knew she was late, she assumed that after her dad came over that they would head home together. Hearing one of her dad's stories would only make them later. Besides, surely she was getting too old for stories. She was an adult now. Though it pained her to think it, sometimes, Lucy wasn't sure if her dad knew that his stories of adventure and grandeur were unrealistic.

Lucy was proud of her prudent and logical way of thinking. She enjoyed hearing about others' experiences, especially if they involved descriptions of insects or birds. Often, Lucy spent her days observing their behaviours, learning more each and every day. It was her passion to go out into the world and to discover more about insects and birds. Grandpa Saeran had encouraged her and now, Lucy was ready.

"I....." Something wasn't right. Lucy tried to speak again, but, nothing came out. Her body frozen, all she could do was stare at her dad's face. Then......

"Lucy!" The sound of another voice, a voice that seemed to come from the sky, jolted Lucy.

Jolted her awake. Lucy's head shot up. Lluvia looked down at Lucy, her dark eyes filled with concern.

"Sorry. I did not mean to wake you so suddenly." Lluvia apologized. The blood bay mare stepped back as Lucy stood up. It was early out, the sunrise was only beginning. Lucy stretched her legs, shaking one cerynei hoof at a time. It was practical to only stretch out one at a time or else she might stumble.

"It's fine." Lucy paused. "Time to go?" She couldn't say anything else, still shaken from her dream. It wasn't just a dream to her, it was re-living a memory all over again.

Lluvia opened her eyes and a yawn slipped out. Embarrassed by such a sound, Lluvia glanced to her right. Mercifully, Lucy Adair was still sleeping peacefully. Letting out a sigh of relief, Lluvia stood up as carefully. It was still dark out and Lluvia did not wish to wake up her sleeping companion. Lluvia was naturally an early morning riser, ever since she was very small; but, Lucy Adair was still getting used to it. The mare carefully maneuvered her way around tree roots and boulders, feeling the area first with her hooves before moving forward quietly. She continued doing this until she reached the creek.

Lluvia bowed her head, taking in sips of ice cold water. The morning was cool, however, Lluvia knew that winter was coming to an end. Spring would soon come, and with it the return of the insects and the birds that had migrated to the south. Lucy would be pleased and Lluvia would be too. It made her happy when her friend was happy. When they first started their journey, Lluvia didn't think Lucy would need a guide for long. In her previous experiences of acting as a guide, it wasn't long before the other soquili would want to travel alone or head home tired and sore. Lluvia was always upfront about the challenges and dangers of traveling, dishonesty would only lead to grief.

However, Lluvia's assumptions about Lucy Adair were wrong. Lucy had asked her to continue on as her guide and Lluvia accepted. It was nice, Lluvia could admit to herself, to have a constant friend in her life. Acting as a guide, it was difficult for Lluvia to form lasting relationships with other soquili. True, her line of work allowed her to meet so many soquili and familiars, but then it was time to leave again. Lluvia would say her goodbyes with no idea when she would be back again for a visit. So, yes, it was refreshing to continue traveling with Lucy. Lluvia took a final sip of water before turning around in order to head back. Her thoughts had distracted her. The sunrise was starting.

It wasn't long before Lluvia reached the place where she and Lucy had stopped for the night yesterday evening. Lluvia came closer until she reached the cerynei mare's side. It was then Lluvia noticed Lucy's mumbling. She's dreaming. Lluvia thought. Not wishing to startle her, Lluvia bent her head and nudged Lucy - to no avail. She was dismayed, but, with no other options she called out her name, "Lucy!"

Lucy Adair jolted awake and Lluvia stepped back, giving her friend some room to stand up and stretch. "Sorry. I did not mean to wake you so suddenly." She apologized. At Lucy's question, Lluvia tipped her head in response. "After breakfast." Although Lluvia was curious about whether Lucy was dreaming or not, she did not want to pry.
