Soon enough, both colts were produced. Rosewynn grew again and Roslind burst from the bushes. She was used to such things, but when Savva reared, she flattened her ears in alarm. In hindsight, she should have warned him. It had been exciting for her, too, to find out that Rosewynn had inherited his father's abilities. The games of hide and seek the family had played before the rule to come out when she called were very nerve-wracking for the mother.
Backing away from the rearing giant, Rosalyn placed herself between Savva and her children, waiting with a beating heart until he had calmed down. "I'm sorry, Savva. We didn't mean to startle you." She sighed and then smiled at Rosewynn behind her. "Would you like to tell Savva about your special talent?" Call it a mother's instinct, but she doubted Rosewynn would lose the chance to boast about his skill.
She moved over to stand beside Roslind, so he didn't feel left out and began to nibble at his forelock. He shook his head and she nickered softly at him, but his expression was affectionate as he leaned on her shoulder.
Roslind had snorted at his brother's boasting, but it was good-natured rather than jealous. His brother may have won on account of his ability, but Roslind didn't have any sort of power and he still hadn't been found. That just proved that powers weren't everything and that Roslind didn't need one! So there!
When the giant stallion suddenly reared, Roslind shrank back. He was comforted slightly by his mother coming towards them, but then had a frightful thought: what if his mother was caught under those massive hooves? He pressed close to Rosewynn until the stallion was still again. Glancing at his brother and then shaking himself, he mumbled. "I, uh, wasn't scared. Everybody gets spooked every now and then, even giants. But me? Nah, I was just... making sure you were okay!"
Straightening up, he perked his ears as his mother addressed Rosewynn and then came to stand by him, only to mess with his mane. He succeeded in dislodging her, but he leaned on her all the same. He was still pretty wary of the large stallion in front of them. Why was he here again?
