Samuel was shouting Rodney's name now above the water, plunging just deep enough to get a location without moving any further.

"We need to revise our strategies," he narrowly ducked a thick column of inky black titan. "Rep, you focus on distracting it, I'll get Rodney."

Rep surfaced for air desperately and caught Samuel's words, twisting himself in the direction of the flailing tentacles.

"Awright." he said desperately, pulling himself out onto the ice and summoning Tracey, the very action cracking the ice beneath him but not shattering it.

He swung out hard at the nearest black and slimy flesh he could.

If Rodney had any idea that the creature was being attacked, he would have been distressed about it.

Sam took Rep's attack as a go, diving into the freezing water again. He briefly looked around, locating just one dark shape - and then Rodney wrapped around it. With a fair amount of ease, he took out a generously modified Runic trap gun and fired-

- The first one missed entirely, sailing past Rodney as the thing broke the water for just brief seconds before submerging again, and Samuel tried again, the second one snagging its target, just one of Rodney's legs.

"Rep," Sam ran as fast as he could with the gun, the tying end string still attached. "Hold this, I'm going to have to pry him out. I'm going to need you to go all out okay?" He narrowly avoided being entirely pulverized by an oversized appendage as he dove in again.

Rep took tight hold of the string and went back to work trying to attack the tentacles, focused entirely on saving the dumb hippy's goddamn life.

Rodney's husband, however, probably would have appreciated the effort.

When something sharp and tight wrapped around his leg, Rodney couldn't tell it from the tentacle.

This time, as Rodney suddenly surfaced, so did Samuel, immediately using the first of a set of daggers to dig into the pliable flesh as they sank beneath the water again. With a lot of mad grabbing, he finally managed to get a hold of Rodney's leg, pulling as hard as he could, his second spare runic dagger sacrificed as he stabbed it also into the tip of the vice-grip the titan had with its prey.

Rep's attack had the closest limbs distracted as well - it was like a mosquito hitting a lumberjack, but it did its job, long enough for Samuel to pull Rodney back onto the broken ice and shout loudly through the sleet. "I have to set up a backup portal right now- " he nearly fell back into the water again as the ice floe teetered, grabbing a hold of Rodney's shoulders, "Can you move? I'm going to need you to help Rep and listen to his instructions - he knows what he's doing."

Rep didn't know what he was doing.

This was probably the most constant thing with Rep and something which didn't change much no matter what he was doing. Right now he was just trying to help Rodney and made his way in the direction of the other man, still trying to distract the tentacles enough to stop them from sliding back into the ******** hold onto me." he said to Rodney. "Don't get separated."

Rodney sank weakly onto the tilting ice, gulping and gulping and gulping air, his lungs felt like they might have torn apart with all the waiting, and though it hadn't ripped through his shield he had the ripe and familiar feeling that he knew, he knew was going to bruise.

Rodney transferred to Rep. clinging to him with one hand, he shakily hung Seven over his shoulder, not wanting to desummon, still maybe needing the chain, needing a protector...

And then he took the camera out of his jacket pocket, and aimed it towards the pit of impossibly large and black tentacles.

He snapped another picture.

There were turrets of salt water gushing everywhere, almost instantly freezing upon impact. Sam was barely in sight, and then suddenly he was shouting at them, waving madly at the two while it rained ice and chaos around them. He took one step forward-

- And another massive shape made entirely of shadows burst from the ice beneath between Rep, Rodney, and Samuel, sweeping all three of their feet. The broken ice was sinking towards it as well.

Rodney clung, shaking, to Rep. His voice could barely be heard over all the water as gravity seemed to be sucking them back into the dark and cold.

"We have to get Sam and g-get out," he said, taking another picture.

Rep was soaked to the skin with icy water and could feel that taking as much of a toll on his shield as anything else was right now. But this was what he truly lived for, what he loved more than anything else, this feeling of being just a shadow's width away from death and yet alive in the face of all the odds still alive.

He didn't even care that Rodney was still taking photos, as long as he was breathing.

And Tracey's charge was building.

There was now visibly a portal where Sam was standing, but the ice was cracking underneath them, pushing Rep and Rodney further and further away. At this rate, it would be impossible to leap across unless they wanted to go for another frozen swim.

As it easily swatted Rep and Rodney further with one sweep, perhaps for a second either of the two could see a deeply embedded harpoon, still glowing blue, buried against its side.

Rodney took the hit hard.

"I...I don't know how many more like that I can take," he admitted shakily.

He had seen the harpoon, though.

"Do..." he coughed water, "do you think it's upset because it's in pain?" he rasped. Like the lion with the thorn in its paw.
