 They were five lessons in and while Bushido was not one to give up on anything, sometimes there was no choice but to admit defeat. Not that she wanted to. She was stubborn as a mule and was determined to give this her all. It had seemed a no-brainer at first. Her purpose in life was to follow the way of the sword and she had taken to kendo quickly, it was spirit and discipline, the warrior way, shouting out as you struck a final blow to your enemy. It was rigid and yet flowing. It was art. When she’d first seen Blade Waltz fencing, it had looked like dancing. She’d begged him to teach her and had expected to be just as talented at that as she was at kendo. But within a few lessons, it was clear that the styles were entirely different and she did not suit the flowing, dancing motions. She was too rigid. It was dishonourable to continue training when her heart was no longer in it. Yet she still didn’t want to give up and her heart was torn. Bushido was pensive when she turned up to her next lesson but did her best to hide her dour expression.

Blade Waltz practice foil sliced through the air as danced backwards, pretending to stab into an opponent. The tip of his sword quivered in the air before he dropped his arm. His phantom adversary had lost. "Whew." Blade peeled off his mask and took a deep breath in and then out. His long hair, though tied up, still tumbled out in waves of gold. His face and hair glistened with perspiration. A few phony in the gym stop and stared but he paid them no mind. He had a job to do. Speaking of, as he reached for his water bottle he spied his little student. He smiled brightly and beckoned her over. "Bushido! You made it!"

Bushido watched the last of his training, her thoughts forgotten just for a moment as she witnessed him in action. He truly was beautiful. As if he had stepped from a classic painting, vibrant and strong. His skill was admirable and she wanted desperately to achieve such fluidity herself. She bowed her head when acknowledged. “Sensei,” she greeted respectfully and then approached, took her place before him. The ugly thoughts returned a moment later, reminding her that she was not a match for his skillful fencing.

Blade waved his hoof. "Ahh ahh, Bishido I told you stop calling me Sensei.." It somehow embarrassed him to be addressed so formally. He nodded over to the foal's equipment he'd set out for her. "Get your sword and gear on, we'll start soon." He took a big swig of water and mopped his face dry, watching the filly from his peripheral vision. Busho (He only called her that in his head.) was still pretty stiff and tense. He worried that her formal ways were keeping the girl way too coiled up. Another big gulp of water and he coiled his hair back up and slipped on his mask. "When you're ready."

Bushido’s mouth tightened slightly and she nodded, knowing that within a few minutes she would be calling him sensei again. It was only the respectful thing to do, and it wasn’t as if she could just call him Blade. That would be terrible. “Yes, Mr. Waltz,” she said instead, needing to acknowledge his order in some way. It didn’t take long for her to get ready, adjusting her well-tended gear until it fit perfectly and then moving to her position in front of Blade Waltz. Even holding the blade was different from kendo and she had to mentally adjust first, forcing herself to shift her stance. “I am ready,” she declared, while feeling the exact opposite. Astraea Pandora she'll do the thing in my next post XD

Blade readied himself, gave Bushido a nod. "En Garde!" The foals movements were good, but not great. As they sparred, he found it easy to parry and dodge. She was doing all the right moves, putting strength into all her movements, but they were all mechanical. She was simply repeating the actions and moves he'd taught her in a logical pattern. There was nothing more in it then that and that made Blade sad. He easily moved past one of her thrusts and tapped her in the chest with his sword. The light inside Busho's helmet flashed, indicating she'd taken a hit. Blade drew back, pulled off his helmet and looked concerned. "Are you SURE there isn't anything wrong?" he pushed a little. She was less in the lesson then she'd ever been before.

With every thrust and movement, Bushido could feel her lacking and she was embarrassed by it. She had failed her teacher and herself, and she knew that the battle had been lost the moment she had stepped into training with doubts in her heart. If this had been a battlefield, she would already be dead. When Blade Waltz put a halt to their training, Bushido nearly flinched from the question. She very nearly assured him that everything was fine once more but instead different words spilled forth. “I... I am sorry sen- ah, Mr. Waltz. I,” she swallowed, also removing her helmet and setting it down. “I don’t think I am good enough to continue training. I will not waste your time any longer.”

If Blade had eyebrows, one would have crooked up. "How do you mean?" he tilted his head to the side, studying the filly. "You're actually an excellent student. Your other sword skills, while different, certainly helped you be steps ahead of your peers." He paused, thinking about it for a moment. "Am I...a bad teacher? Do you not like my lessons..?" he asked gently. He wasn't afraid of the criticism if there was some. He was still new to the whole teaching gig in the first place and sometimes wasn't sure when he should be pushing harder or giving more guidance. "If you want go at different pace we can, if that's the issue for you."

Bushido was mortified by the mere suggestion that her failings were on his teaching and she gulped in such sudden panic she nearly swallowed her tongue. Her head whisked from side to side in a desperate no, and she was embarrassed to find her eyes burning with sudden unshed tears. “It isn’t you!” She told him hurriedly. “It’s me!” Which sounded ridiculous, like a crappy break-up line. “I love your lessons, but I am not good enough and I am only wasting your time. I will never be as elegant as you!” She blurted out her fears and then wanted to sink into the ground.

Blade considered what she had to say for a long moment. "Is that what you really think? That you can't be like me when I fence?" Slowly he reached out, and with a gentle pomp, patted Busho's head. He smiled. "I appreciate your honesty, but you've just started you know? It took me a long time to get as good as I am, and I am nowhere near as good as my teacher! If you think that I am amazing, you should see him. He is like liquid elegance when he moves. AND, you are not wasting my time in the least." he gave the filly a gentle rapt on her head. "Every lesson I have with you helps me to learn as much as you." Blade wandered back to his foil, picked it up and began to wipe it down. "However, if you feel YOUR time is being wasted, then by all means, quit. I won't teach those who do not want to be taught." He paused, mid polish. "But as long as you want to learn, I will be here for you Bushido." Ruriska Somewhere in earshot, some phony just swooned or is going all doki doki heart! XD!!!

Bushido had never been so glad she’d inherited her father's colouring because otherwise her blush at the gentle bob on her head would have been very obvious. Regardless, knowing her cheeks were burning didn’t make her fierce gaze any less intense and her attention absolute as he very gently taught her a very big lesson. She was glad that she had been honest with her feelings, because now she could continue forward without any hesitation. Bushido pulled in a breath and allowed the smallest smile to grace her face. “Thank you,” she said, her voice warm with gratitude. “My time is not being wasted. I wish to remain as your student.” Because despite her doubts as to her own abilities, she was now determined that with his help, she would overcome them. Astraea Pandora I think that's a wrap. XD Blade was perfect. THank you!
