[PRP] TRAINING DAYS ( Roland & Gretchen )

Roland was standing out on the training field, Sylvia resting across his shoulder as he stood beside a pole spiked into the ground. On it hung what looked like some runic techs interpretation of the training droid from the old Starwars movies. Roland reached up giving the small ball a spin on the chain like some odd tether ball stand before whipping Sylvia off his shoulder to take a swing at it. Every time he hit it the runes on the device would light up sending the ball flying in the other direction.

It went on like this for a while, Roland and Sylvia humming to themselves as he knocked the training device back and forth around the poll between of course the many misses. He tried to ignore those…

It was the first version he had gotten his hand on, it was something he was tinkering with in his spare time. It’d be useful for anyone trying to learn to strike a fast-moving target with a weapon for the first time. He took a few more swings bouncing the ball around when someone called out to him. The shout caused him to turn missing his next swing the ball whizzing by with a hum of energy that started to fade as soon as he stopped hitting it.

“Ah yeah! It is, and you’re right, we had them too, middle school and elementary you punched the ball round and round or threw it.” He rested the scythe over his shoulder. “Yeah, I figured it would be good practice for any hunter to keep up tempo in a fight or just get used to hitting fast moving things.”

She settled in to watch and he turned back to the device hooking it with Sylvia’s curved blade sending it spinning before giving it a few more whacks. Back and forth it went before it suddenly sparked runic energy flaring off it before it snapped off the chain and slammed into the ground cackling with energy as Roland fell back on his a** yelping.

“S-still in prototyping…. We might need a better chain…”

Roland grinned upside down at Gretchen from where he was sitting rolling over slightly to take her hand stumbling up to his feet.

"Prototype. Glad it didn't fly off at either of us." He paused looking back at it, "Well I seem to be out of a way to train.... and I haven't really seen you since we did that ash mission. So how about we have a round?"

Roland rolled his shoulders cracking his neck just a bit as he took a few steps back putting space between them. Whipping Sylvia around he brought her up in both hands crouching in a fighting stance grinning, waiting for her first move.

He only just barely registered the thought from Sylvia as Gretchen moved in, the wide sweep coming down on his left hip with only a moment to realize it. The shield took the blow, but the sudden impact still staggered him causing him to side step a few time before he fell into a circling pattern around the other hunter, waiting for her next strike.

"Wasn't planning on it, but you did get a smart hit in while I was finishing a stretch." His own weapon mimed her spin, the blade humming gently as it flipped through the air.

She took a step forward, he took a step back, staff tapping his chest with a light thwip.

It was in that moment he twisted his hands on the scythe, the jagged sections breaking apart to reveal the chains between them as he whipped the weapon around to sweep her legs out of no where.

"Thaaaat. Is for thumping my hip and saying I was taking it easy on you."

Roland flourished his scythe once more spinning the blade at his side in a pinwheel as the Gretchen bounced on the floor. He gave a small shrug of apology before taking a quick step backwards as her staff swiped the ground where he was standing falling short almost of even that.

“Too slow! Get up then attack!” Even as he said it he brought Sylvia around, while she was moving to stand he had pulled the weapon far back behind him before stepping forward again to hit her with a full swing of the weapon.

There was a momentary scowl on his face as he snapped back at his own weapons joke.

< She said I was going easy. >

He only got laughter in turn as he flipped the scythe up over his shoulder again.

He really hadn't meant to be so rough, and Sylvia knew that but how could she pass up such a good chance to tease Roland? The Mist stood with his scythe in both hands watching as Gretchen took her tumble.

To her credit she did get up before she swung this time, and while she was still slow on the uptake the hit was good and clipped his shoulder. Even as her blow landed he stepped in closer to her turning with the blow to jab at her belly with the end of his weapon to throw her off balance again hopefully.
