[PRP] Operation Jingle Justice (Lutrin + Engrav)

Trying desperately to extricate himself from the mindless throng, Engrav threw his elbows left and right, hitting chitin more often than not. He managed to grab a potato pillow from it's owner and stuff it in his bag before he went under what could only be described as a fourth state of matter: Angry, crowded trolls. He took a deep breath before he fell under the horde.

Robed in the flesh of the greatest of vegetable kind, Lutrin felt like a whole new person... No, a whole new being—excuse me—bean. She had transcended the mortal plane and achieved something like godhood. In the outside world, few people had respect for potatoes but here... in here, people understood what they were worth. People knew their true value. Here, she was king.

Eyeing (hee hee) herself in the mirror, Lutrin adjusted her crown. A king needed to make herself presentable before she could address her subjects.

At the bottom of the pile, Engrav curled tightly into a ball with his sack held tightly to his stomach. Feet stomped down around him constantly, and he rolled to try to avoid getting trampled. Eventually, he wound up in the corner of the aisle, and bumped into a shelf. A doll from the shelf practically fell into his bag, and he just guided it in, trying to protect his face.

Once she deemed her appearance satisfactory, Lutrin scampered up on top of the shelves—not an easy feat for someone wearing twenty pounds of potato armour. Hand shading her eyes (her real ones), she surveyed her territory. As Potato King she now ruled all of the tuber shack. Carrots, cabbages, turnips and radishes may not have belonged to the potato family (the cabbages were not even tubers technically speaking) but as long as they were in the tuber shack, they were her subjects. She would treat them right.

Hopping from shelf to shelf, Lutrin made her way back to centre of the war zone. It was just as bad, if not worse than the state she had left it in. People screamed bloody murder as they throttled each other for vegetable enslavement or freedom. Getting their attention would not be easy.

Lutrin rapped the carrot she had selected as her sceptre against the metal shelf. The result was a satisfying hollow bong. She banged it several times for good measure. Below, the crowd momentarily fell quiet and turned their lookstubs upwards. “Citizens! Friends and strangers!” Lutrin bellowed. “Cease this bickering at once and make peace with one another! Have we not seen enough bloodshed this night?”

In the crowd, some figures shifted uncomfortably. “The people of the Tuber Shack did not wish this! Vegetables are for planting, cooking, and eating. Not fighting! I know this because I am the speaker of all vegetable kind. I am the potato king!”

Engrav pulled himself up the shelf hand by hand, eventually flopping over the top into a new, empty aisle. He was gonna feel all of that later. A large package went flying out of the carnage the next lane over, and he didn't even question it, just grabbed it out of the air and put it in his bag. It was time to leave. He was even more bruised than his potatoes.

He pulled out his radio and started towards the front of the store to pay for his ill-gotten loot.

“No, you're not!” another voice interjected from across the aisle. The crowd let out a gasp and swivelled to face the speaker. Still mounting the top of the shelf was a young blueblood, wearing their own tuber costume. Lutrin's face went white with shock. “I'm bigger, so I'm better. I'm the true potato king!” At the proclamation several faces in the crowd turned back to Lutrin, eyes questioning and searching for an answer. The brownblood steeled herself.

“It's true that you are bigger... But you are also a yam! And yams are not true potatoes!” She pointed her staff towards the blueblood accusingly. “You are a false idol!”

Engrav grabbed one last package with a dancing... carrot? It was very hard to tell. Everything was a little bit swimmy.

"Agent!" he shouted into the microphone. "I'm done with my mission. Finish up and meet me in line, and I'll save us a space!"

He staggered towards the staggering lines, feeling just as beat as a beet.

The crowd released an angry roar. Lutrin fed off their energy. “Down with the false king! Down with the one who would lead you all astray! Seriously, get him down from those shelves! He does not belong at the pinnacle of potato-hood! Bury him in... oh!”

She could hear Engrav's voice from her radio. Disregarding her audience, Lutrin retrieved it from her sack. The yellowblood had collected all he could and was on his way out. Ideally she should join him, unless she wanted to be trapped in tubergatory forever. She gave him a curt response then returned her attention to her subjects below to continue her address. Such a thing would not be... necessary.

There was no sign of the blueblood in the yam costume, though she could assume he was trapped somewhere beneath the pile of potato merchandise that the other customers were screaming and pelting vegetables at. She had meant to say bury him in shame and let him redeem himself, but this worked too. Sort of.

Though disgruntled, she decided she would not dwell on it. Eager to put such things out of her mind, she made her escape down the opposite side of the shelf while no one was looking.

No sooner had her feet touched the floor than she heard a troll cry out, “Wait! Where'd the potato king go?” Lutrin cringed, biting her lip. The crowd let out another roar of dismay. A moment later she saw them come skidding around the corner. It only took them a second to spot her.

“There!” another troll yelled. All heads turned towards her. She ran.

“The potato king wishes to be left to her own devices!” Lutrin screeched as she bolted out of the aisle. At the same time she nearly slammed into another shopper. She offered a hasty apology before continuing her escape. Pushing and wiggling her way through the crowds, she popped out in another aisle. Her subjects were not far behind her. In a tizzy, Lutrin swept several rows of merchandise onto the floor.

“Sorry,” Lutrin whispered, as behind her she heard the crunch of tubers being crushed underfoot. Guilt weighed down on her pump biscuit. Her subjects were forced to suffer while she fled. She knew they did so willingly, but still it took all her might to keep from crying. Stubbornly, she wiped at her lookstubs. She would make sure that their noble sacrifice would not be forgotten.

Several minutes had passed. She had lost some of her energy, but so had her pursuers. A few even dropped out of the chase entirely. The mob that remained however was a formidable one, fervent and blood-thirsty in their devotion to their idol. They would hunt her to her stewpot (the traditional resting place for a potato). She needed a diversion.

Retrieving her potadio, Lutrin wiggled her finger inside to crank the volume to its highest setting. Then she hopped onto a shelf, her back turned to her subjects, and hunched over the radio. “Mister Snatch,” she whispered, voice desperate. “What will happen to us if we get caught? Will it be something terrible?”

Lutrin did not waste a second. Before Engrav could reply (she only hoped he would not get to his radio too quickly) she whirled, holding the potadio high where all could see it. “BEHOLD!! A new god! Bow! Or else...!”
