Personality

Kerras is a troll who dedicates themself to the well-being of others. They like to be helpful, often to the point of coming across as overbearing or nosy. They are exceptionally giving, whether it be with their resources or even just their time. Even when they have little to offer, they try to find something they can do. As they value harmony above all else, they work hard to get along with everyone and ensure that everyone gets along with everyone else. They can be forgiving to a fault.

In general, Kerras experiences strong emotions. They laugh easily, cry easily, and tend to wear their pump biscuit on their sleeve all the time. It does not take much to fluster them, though bringing them to anger is a bit more of a challenge. They have a large reserve of patience and there is very little that will set them off. Kerras is clueless about how easy they are to read, and genuinely seem surprised when people can tell what they are thinking. What do you mean they can’t keep a straight face?

Kerras dislikes conflict. They cannot stand for anyone to be unhappy, and when faced with opposing sides, they will do everything in their power to resolve the matter peacefully and minimise damage. If a scenario calls for it, they are not afraid to throw themself under the scuttlebuggy and take the blame. Personal sacrifice means nothing if everyone can get along better. They fear the potential destruction others might unleash when left without someone to mediate.

To that end, they can be extraordinarily accommodating. While such behaviour might be the norm for dealing with highbloods, it looks odd when they apply it to lowbloods. In either case, this should not be mistaken for meekness or cowardice. They have no stomach for cruelty and can show surprising backbone when they encounter injustice.

Kerras has a strong sense of honour. Humility, sincerity, and courtesy are all qualities they admire and try their best to emulate. As such, they tend to be overly polite, especially when meeting someone new. No sense in getting off on the wrong nub with someone. Informality both baffles and flusters them, and more intimate interactions are almost certain to send them babbling an excuse while fleeing. Crowds are just as bad. They tend to get over-stimulated easily, and either have a meltdown or absorb the energy and end up bouncing off the walls.

Kerras treasures moonlight and hates the dark. They don’t care much for being indoors, though on the darkest of nights, they are much more likely to stay in by the fire. Otherwise most times they can be found wandering the forest, gathering herbs for medicine, observing the wildlife, and playing a hand harp from the shoulder of their lusus. They love the sound and feel of the rain, and on nights where it drizzles they like to sit out and listen to the raindrops patter against the forest canopy. They rarely travel beyond the edge of the forest, and the few times they have, always well within the shadow of their lusus. The outside world is a dark place after all.

Having caught glimpses of the hunts, Kerras is apprehensive about meeting their own kind. They have been witness to the violence trolls are capable and though Treefather has explained the Alternian method of justice, they remain apprehensive. While Kerras' blood is high enough to ensure that they themselves are not at risk of being intentionally culled, collateral damage is a possibility, and the criminals that the highbloods hunt could prove deadly. In times of danger they have been instructed to find a hiding place and stay quiet until the threat has passed. Kerras hates to feel like a coward, but they value the wisdom of their lusus more.

The hemospectrum is a subject Kerras considers to be of utmost importance. It keeps Alternia organised and unified. Their own role in the hemospectrum is especially important. Midbloods, though often overlooked, have the responsibility of uniting the lower and higher bloods. As they can see both sides of the spectrum, they are best suited for mediating.

Strengths and Weaknesses

        Strengths:
            Sincere
Kerras is a troll that is sincere in both their words and actions. They do not look for more than what they ask for, and it would never to occur them to manipulate others for their own benefit. A promise made is a promise kept. In general Kerras follows through on what they say, the exception being when a particular choice of action no longer matches their values. To be honest with others, one first must be honest with one’s self!

            Inquisitive
While nervous about the world outside the forest, Kerras is curious too. They are not the type of troll that does well being cooped up. They have too many questions, too many wonderings. They want to see, explore, and understand everything. Especially living relatively isolated from their own kind, they are intensely curious about other trolls. Thus while their lusus would prefer they stay close to home, Kerras sometimes inspires him to take them on ventures outside the Four Fronds.

            Thoughtful
Both considerate and idealistic, Kerras puts others first. They tend to be helpful in whatever way they can, without ever looking for anything in return. The act of good will is satisfactory enough for them. Thoughtful has another meaning though, and while Kerras is considerate they are also prone to deep contemplation. Periods of self-reflection have given them wisdom that belies their age. When they are not succumbing to the pendulum of their emotions, Kerras expresses excellent judgement.

        Weaknesses:
            Bemused
Thoughtful but absent-minded, Kerras is prone to daydreaming. A part of them always seems to be removed from what is currently happening around them. They are easily caught off guard, and tend to miss important information. Information they don’t miss they tend to forget. It’s always wise to double check that Kerras is paying attention, because even if they respond their mind is likely elsewhere.

            Overemotional
Perhaps not surprisingly considering the amount of empathy they have for others, Kerras is emotionally volatile. When happy, Kerras is usually quietly content but when they experience sadness or fear, they crank it up to ten. They are brought to tears easily (far more often than anger), and can be overwhelmed by the stress to the point of being paralysed. Even when excited Kerras risks burning themself out.

            Gullible
Kerras believes that every person has the potential to be good and trusts in that potential. They tend to see the best in everyone and blindly follow them, even when signs might point towards trouble. Though curious, they do not like to question the motives of others, since that would directly contradict their faith in good will. Even when they should know better, Kerras is unrelentingly gullible.

Home

A quaint two-story cottage located in the woods, about a thirty minute hike from the lake resort. It sits aside a creek that runs down from the mountains and into the lake. A water mill feeds power to the hive. Kerras’ dwelling is a simple one with only four rooms: a nutritionblock, respiteblock, ablutionblock, and a rumpusblock with a fireplace. The hive’s ornamentation is scarce as Kerras spends little time inside. Still a few tapestries adorn the walls, and woven rugs line the floor. A small bookshelf sits next to the fireplace, and a cabinet against the wall by the door holds a variety of tools. Kerras usually keeps the shutters open, and a small vase with flowers beside their recuperacoon.

Outside the hive, there is dense foliage. Ivy provides the dwelling some camouflage, though Kerras keeps it from growing out of control. Surrounding the hive are several colours of weeping rose bushes, and a couple of temperamental snapdragons. Kerras sometimes strings bottles from their hive to the trees during the night to make moon tea.

Lusus

A shambling treebeast that stands fifteen feet tall, known as the Grove Warden. Kerras however calls him Treefather. He is an older gentleman who has lived to see much… even beyond the edge of the forest. A very wise fellow, but he can be a little cryptic, a little long-winded, and tends to doze off at inopportune times. Nonetheless Kerras values his advice, and follows it to the best of their ability.

TreeFather encourages Kerras to use peaceful means to resolve their problems. One should always show mercy and kindness when ere they’re able. Death itself does not have to be a cruel act, and should it be necessary, it should be enacted with swiftness and compassion. TreeFather has no illusions about violence. While he himself may be content to live off sunlight and water, his charge needs to eat something more substantial. In any case, they need to be able to defend themself without the burden of a guilty conscience.

TreeFather tries to give Kerras full autonomy over their choices. While he is always present for his charge, he gives them opportunities to make mistakes and to learn from them. It is better for Kerras to learn while they are young so Treefather can help them along the way. There are two things TreeFather consistently warns Kerras against however—the first being the Beast. TreeFather's age old nemesis, the Beast is a monster out of fairytale. Kerras has never seen it but Treefather tells them that it roams the deep woods in search of trolls to eat, while devouring everything else in its path. No matter what, Kerras is to keep as far from the Beast as possible.

Secondly, Kerras is not to leave the Four Fronds alone. While the forest has its dangers, they are dangers he can protect his charge against: the wildlife, the hunts, highblood antagonism... The outside world has much more insidious threats. TreeFather is generally wary of the troll species, though he hides this from Kerras.
