Kaybok paced excitedly in the Main Ceremonial Tent in the Ra'Kari wolf Tribe's village, the ancient Blue whale Ribcage with stitched together tapir leathers stretched over the upper most curve and spine and thatched with fresh green palm fronds to create a water proof roof, and light Reed walls Woven in and out of the ribs to finish the roof to create the largest dwelling in their village, the skull decorated and cushioned to create a throne like lounge for the now dead Chief that had ruled over them before, a remnant from when the Island basin was under water. Many of the older dwellings and structures in the heart of the territory were made from the skeletal remains of a few different breeds of the aquatic giants, some acting as the frame work for earth lodges, others set up to create frames for smaller houses, though the way and materials for building these ancient structures were lost, only the methods of keeping them kept up and useful left. The ivory was rich in carvings and artwork, stained in ancient dyes in the ridges to make the patterns pop.

Occasionally he peeked out while keeping his Year old Pups entertained but away from the flaps -- Like soquili, the Ra'kari wolf familiars took three years to reach adulthood , and were at the human equivalent of Seven years old.

As they had been growing up, they had gotten to be involved in more and more parts of Ra'Kari life, helping them harvest chicken eggs and tend to their brood, Help plant and harvest gardens, and prepare communal meals. However it was always as a group with the rest of the community, or with other Pups younger or Older than them, and while it benefited the community as a whole, and wasn't a full responsibility, more just a part of learning experience, Kaybok had been planning since he found out that A'Woof was to be having his pups for this day.

He had bred his Five Tapir cows with Raktek's Bull Tuktuk when he had been expecting just five -- enough to insure his kids each got one if they had gotten a full litter, with any spare tapir's going to Raktek to do with as she wished after they had gotten to choose their calves to raise once they were old enough to safely wean, freeing the mothers to be milked by the ranchers for a cut of the dairy. That wasn't the case and he was excited to see his Pup's reactions.

He turned towards his kids with a Wild wagging of his tail, Each one having pulled a rune stone to see who got first choice, "Now, I hope you are all as excited as I am....." he pranced in place a little, tapping his front paws on the woven reed mats of the floor, "As you know, owning tapirs of your own was a sign of wealth in the old times -- the Candles used to belong to the chief, the old nobility, and the richest merchants.. But, today, you each get to pick your first Calf, and learn how to care for them, starting your own herds. However, this gift is also a big responsibility -- I expect you four to take good care of them. Raktek will help you, but these are living animals and require respect. When they become adults, you can choose to keep them and continue to expand your Candle by breeding them, Rent them out to others to get tapirs, or trade the adults off for some other good should you not be interested in keeping your own candle or prefer a different Tapir. Or, even though these are Good breeding stock, you could opt to turn them into a feast for your future families..."

Not knowing how many tapirs there were for them to pick from, B'Kaow's tail wagged a little slower, looking at the Rune stating she was Fourth in Line -- the last possible choice. If she didn't like the one she got, She'd be the most likely to try and trade it for another Tapir, "Right... 'We Raise them right and they'll give in return'."

Her ears perked up to the Excited chirping of young Tapirs -- Clearly something was happening outside that got the penned animals all excited. This made her tail thump slightly faster -- Ah well, a tapir was a tapir, and it was exciting to have something new to do, to be trusted with such an important part of their people's lifestyle. Prime Tapirs are bred for quality of color, tameness, and for a rather wide variety of sizes, and could be smaller or much larger than the wolves, making them exciting animals to keep and how well they were handled as calves determined how friendly they are when grown. Even last pick could end up being a new friend, and is certainly a new experience!

The flap pulled back slightly as Raktek stuck her head into the tent, startling Kaybok, and said a quick "They're ready!" before popping back outside.

Kaybok yipped a little, then threw the flap open for their kids to head up to the showing pen that was used for Tapir sales, auctions, and gifting like this, Raktek and A'Woof already beside the Pen.

Kaybok's Tapir Cows, as if in response to the stresses of the War having calmed down and in response to the nice shelter he had built for them with his Professional training as a Dendigger, had been especially fertile, resulting in over thirteen calves.

Pleased with it, Raktek had allowed A'Woof and himself to claim two of the Three bulls, with Raktek taking the third for the communal Candle of Prime breeders since Bulls would be too wild for Pups to learn to care for. There had been a few more tapir bull calves in the mix, but they had quality issues as breeder bulls, and so they had been 'fixed' so they'd remain tame and would eventually be fattened up into good leather and meats for the Tribe.

So before them were Ten of the thirteen prime Calves of Kaybok's five cows and Raktek's bull, ready for them to pick out which ones they wanted "Okay guys, here they are! You only get one so make sure take your time looking at them.." Kaybok grinned, watching their faces. Some of the tapirs had become unusual color morphs, while others had marking mutations, meaning the pups had a glut of options. The calves were small, still fairly young, but were old enough to be showing more of how they'd look as adults.

Ka'Oof shuffled on her paws slightly, part apprehension and part excitement, gently jostling B'Kaow. Her sister had the fourth rune stone, and she had second, which sent a thrill from her snout to her tail. Only one sibling's choosing to wait through, and then she'd get to wade into the heart of the herd and pick a tapir calf of her own. She was eager to prove herself to her parents, as well as to gain a new friend.

"Are you excited?" She yipped softly to B'Kaow before the flap snapped back and Raktek appeared for but a moment. Aow'p skittered off soon after, the fortunate pup with first pick. There were a wide variety of colors and patterns among the herd, so Ka'Oof remained at her sister's side, tail wagging gaily, and waited happily for her turn. "I am, of course. Look at how pretty they are!"

Leaving B'Kaow alone for a moment, Ka'Oof skittered over to her brother and jostled Ow'rr fondly. He would be picking right after her, which meant he'd only have to wait a few moments. "Wish me luck, my turn!"

Pacing into the herd and meandering around the calves, Ka'Oof flicked her tail in a happy wag at the sight of a smaller calf. The colors were not too different, a soft blend of brown-burgundy, blues, and so on. But there was a bit of white on her head and trailing over her shoulders, like the moon hiding behind clouds and branches of a tree.

"This one." She said softly with a smile. "I like this one the best!"

B'Kaow swallowed -- like two of her siblings, she was rather tempted by some of the smaller Tapir, -- there were after all some lovely miniatures that could be bred to possibly result in miniature tapir, and over all a smaller cow would be easier to manage as a start. And there was one of the smaller ones still remaining. Then there was the large Stunningly creamy white one -- such rare colors were sure to make her a valuable cow. Over all she was overwhelmed by the glut of choices for her

However she reached a paw out and gentle scritched behind the ear of the one with the subtle, thickly swirled markings, smiling -- she was beautiful, and sweet tempered, coming up and making happy squeaky noises for attention. It was obvious she wasn't going to be tiny, but would be about mid sized, "I'll take this one...."
