This is life. This is death. An endless circle that we are all apart of. Everything is temporal, finite. Nothing lasts forever.

In the silence, all she heard was her heart beating where once she had heard his . She had not known that his were numbered shorter than hers, that her life would stretch on without him. Days upon endless days.

Had her grandfather Haides, ferryman of death, take her love on to the place she could no go? Did he wait for her, in the lands undying? Or was he there at all?

She felt the hot burn of tears in her eyes. Her throat felt tight. His death was bad enough, the betrayal was worst of all.

There would always be a before and an after. The world was perfectly imperfect until the moment that it vibrated, then shattered into a thousand pieces.

She'd always remember what she was doing in the Great Before. The Great Before she knew, the Great Before it was real. It was a moment that changed everything. One breath and all the world laid before her in infinite possibilities, but with the next it was all gone.

The words spoken fell on her ears and echoed in her hollow heart. Her smile faltered when she had seen it was not him who had come. And when they had said the words, they were a knell to her ears.

She could not believe the words, they were not real. They weren't meant about him.

He is dead.

Dead.

It didn't make sense. Inside her, her soul trembled and grew cold. He was dead. He was dead, the words echoed without meaning in the atmosphere. They could not be true, they could not be real.

And then like an anvil the pain fell down on her heart, threatening to crush her beneath it. Because it was real, it was real, too real. He was dead.

Dead.
