Baking looked up at the marquee, reading the words that slid by a few times. There was supposed to be a phony named Taiko playing some drums tonight. He felt bad; the foal had never heard of this guy before, but everyone else seemed to know him. That meant he was sure to get a lot of attention from everyone, and that was Baking's goal.
His want to be the center of attention started a couple of weeks ago, after his took first place in his class spelling bee. The admiration and congrats had sparked in him a fire that needed fuel. It was then he decided that he wanted to be famous.
Sadly, there weren't a lot of famous phonies around. Sure, there was the infamous TACO, but he hadn't bee seen in months, and many of his fans burst into tears at the mere mention of his name. There were others that were famous within their career circle; but that wasn't what Baking wanted. He wanted to be known by everyone
He entered the concert hall to find people working to set up sound systems, seating and fancy concessions outside. He walked through all of this, taking in the chaos and feeling excitement in his chest. THIS was what he was talking about! He spied Taiko on the stage, overseeing it all. He looked so...regal. Like the king of the rock. Baking's brown eyes shone with admiration.Chrystali I'm sorry I'm a fail-whale and took so long to start something ;.;

And oversee, he did. Taiko was extremely particular about his performances - because for him, they weren't just that. They were a celebration of movement and sound, the entire purpose of his creation, and even one thing being off or wrong would tell a different tale than he was anticipating. Of course, the stallion hadn't made it this far by allowing anything to slip by as any less than perfect, and if it meant he was a bit hard on the staff...so be it. He heard someone make a comment about arrivals already, making him frown. It was no where near time for the show! Turning, he didn't see anyone initially - and then his eyes found the small babben, gazing at the stage and going-on's with all the wonder of witnessing a falling star. Taiko whuffled. Usually he would have had them go on their way, but...maybe it was his meeting with Rising Sign, or maybe it was because he was a grandphony now, but he hesitated, and then sighed. " You're early," he informed the babben, his voice carrying and rumbling like low thunder. " You might as well come up here and see us finish up." Blue Eyed Melloon NO WORRIES <3 I am just pleased to RP with you at all!

Baking bit his lip, looking down as the low timbre of Taiko's voice washed over him. "I'm sorry." he squeaked, but his head shot up when he was allowed to come up on stage. He got to get on a real live stage! He ran to the steps as fast as his little legs would carry him, and if he had a tail, it would have been wagging like a gleeful Labrador. Instead, his body had to settle with vibrating.
"Hi! I'm sorry I am messing up your routine.." he started to say, and then caught himself talking far too loudly. He coughed. C'mon Baking, this is your chance to talk to a real live famous phony! He can tell you all about being in the spotlight! And then you can find your calling in the world! He took a breath, and smiled.
"Hello Mr. Taiko, sir. My name is Baking News. I would like to ask you how you became famous, and just how amazing is it? Because from what I've seen, I want to be a famous phony like you!"

The colt...had no tail. Taiko had seen many walks of life out of Phonyland, being one of the first and all, but this little tyke was quite new to him. The strange dapple pattern, just-so coif of hair and lack of tail struck the older Phony as unusual - not in a bad way, just different in the way an old codger couldn't quite keep up with the new fads. " Mm," was all he replied with initially, neither admitting the kid messed him up nor forgiving him if he had. He listened to the introduction with no movement, save for the flick of his ears, and when the other was done, he dipped his head to be 'closer' to the other. " Fame, is it?" There was a sort of drawl there, like he'd said it before and likely would say it again before his years to pasture came. Whuffling softly again, he lifted his head and retained his mostly serious expression. " I don't know what exactly it is you're looking for, young Baking News, but if it's just fame, I can't help you." Taiko furrowed his brows, remembering the upturned faces of his grandphonies and the eagerness in the other he'd met, and almost ground his teeth with how annoyed he was at himself. What was this? Was he getting soft? Poppycock! " There's a difference between being known for what you love, and aiming for the limelight. Which is it, kid?" Despite the brisk words, he held an air of...patience, even if limited, and consideration. He'd at least listen to what the bab had to say. Blue Eyed Melloon ALMOST A YEAR LATER... -facepalms-

Baking was intimidated by the large stallion, and as he seemed to loom over the foal, he felt very, very small. Taiko looked like he was upset that he had asked, and Baking thought that he'd made a grave mistake. Maybe he'd insulted the performer by asking him to help!
Taiko's question threw him off, and he was silent, thinking. His young mind couldn't exactly grasp what was asked of him.
"I.....I guess I don't know." he said in defeat, ears flattening. "I thought that they were the same thing. Like, I could be famous and like it at the same time?" He looked up at the persimmon stallion. "No, I guess that isn't it, is it?" His ears popped up again "But isn't it wonderful, to have lots of phonies recognize you, want to talk to you, want to have your autograph!?"

The stallion sighed, shaking his head with an almost grave sort of solemnity. " No. Fame isn't just attention, Baking News. Fame is hard work. Extremely hard work." Taiko turned and took heavy steps along the stage, tilting his head towards the empty audience. " If you want their adoration - the autographs, the articles - it's hard work. You have to earn their love and respect." His head then tilted the opposite way, towards his drum set up. " This is where you have to decide what you're doing, and why. For me, this is my Purpose -- my passion. I love this art, and my joy is in sharing it with those who appreciate it." He turned full circle, coming back towards the foal. " But if you stand on this stage only for the reward, you'll end up resenting what you do. You want a quick fix, and what you want in return can take years - if not a lifetime to achieve." Taiko knew his response was heavy and not well watered down for a child, but the foal asked him. He wasn't exactly known for sugar coating or playing by conventional rules of fame. If Baking News wanted the fame that Taiko had, this was the kindest way he knew how to set him on the right path. " So you have a decision to make: do you do what you must for the attention, or do you share what you love and build your legacy, irregardless of where the reward may be?" In his heart or in his star-studded eyes, Taiko wasn't sure which way the babben would go.

Earn their respect?
The young foal hadn't thought about that. From his limited knowledge (mostly tv shows and movies), you were discovered by an agent, usually doing something mundane, and then everyone loved you. He hadn't realized that you had to earn their attention. Thinking about it now, Baking felt incredibly stupid for his previous notions about fame. Of course no one would just love you automatically!
He listened to Taiko with complete focus, feeling the deep timbre of his voice and the even deeper meaning of his words hit him right in his core. This wasn't something to be taken lightly, and he was embarrassed that he had thought that way about it. He also got a sneaking suspicion that he had inadvertently insulted the older phony with his simple desire.
"There's a lot more to becoming famous than I thought." Baking said, once Taiko's monologue was complete. "Like, A LOT more. I didn't consider that i had to actually DO something to become famous. Or that I should pick something I like.."
"But a whole lifetime?" he said a little sadly. "You mean I could work forever, and I won't see any reward for..years?" His little foal heart couldn't grasp that idea. It was too used to the concept of living day to day, with rewards and consequences coming immediately after his actions. The timeline of years was foreign to a foal who could hardly stand to wait for Christmas.

The stallion sighed deeply. " You cannot be famous merely by wishing it. You cannot stand in the spotlight without working to get there." A swish of his tail, and Taiko was moving back to the center of the stage, checking on his drums. But the kid was still speaking - he'd thought they were done. Looking over his withers, Taiko shrugged. " It depends on you, and what you put out there. Fame is business, Baking News. How you handle it decides on the fame you cultivate."

He'd overstayed his welcome, he was sure about that when the large stallion started to walk away. And why shouldn't he? Entertaining a kid like himself when he had a show to put on?
"Thank you." he said, still a little sullen, but with a mind full of things to think about. "For being honest with me. I have a lot of things I gotta think about before I become famous it seems."
He turned and walked to the edge of the stage before looking back. "But don't worry, I'm still gonna be famous. I just have to figure out why before I can figure out the how." He flashed the older phony a winning smile. "I hope your show goes on without a hitch!" And with that, he jumped down the steps leading up to the stage and scampered down the main aisle, head buzzing and heart filled with a new determination.Chrystali I think we can call it good after your exit post! And now Baking is ready to grow! Thank you soooo much!

Silence followed, watching the babben retreat. He saw the brief discouragement on his face, and then the sharp positivity that quickly replaced it. Baking News seemed to have the attitude to make it...but it would be the follow through, in the end. Taiko nodded. When the other was out of earshot, he murmured, " I suspect I'll see your name in lights some day, Baking News," and resumed tending to his own schedule. There was work to be done. Blue Eyed Melloon I'M SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG QAQ CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM GROW!
