He glanced over, making sure his brother was still keeping up. They were soaring high, riding the wind with their colorful wings. It had been a while since he had seen his brother, Dubstep having gone and joined a herd with his mate. Rainbow couldn't blame him. He'd join a herd for a mate too, if it came to it. He had gone to the ends of the world looking for a cure for his previous love, though that didn't secure their relationship. He pushed that thought away; they were here to have fun and bond.

He turned his head to shout over the wind to Dubstep "I see a clearing! Follow me and we can land!"

He loved the feeling of flying. His muscles straining as he gained altitude, the wind roaring in his ears so loud it wipes away all other sound. The clouds surrounding them all around. He loved every bit of it. He kept his older brother in view as he dipped and dove and spin in an aerial display of prowess. He almost didn't hear Rainbow scream over the wind, but he nodded and altered his course to follow. He saw the clearing in question and adjusted appropriately to land with grace and dignity. He landed first, being the slightly more adept flyer. He grinned at his brother, his adrenaline from flying still high. "That was great! What shall we do now? Get some water, I hope. I'm thirsty." He heard a river nearby and shifted in that direction, still looking to his brother for guidance.

She blinked in confusion as two hulking bodies dropped out of the sky nearly on top of her, fearing attack and diving deeper into the shadows. What the hell just happened? They clearly didn't see her, and so she settled in, staring out at them from under the thick underbrush of the wooded perimeter. The two stallions stood around, talking to each other and Ronobe became more and more irritated as the time ticked by. They had just swooped in here, intruded on her peace and quiet and forcing her to crouch in the shadows of her own territory. Her eyes narrowed as the blood pumped loudly in her ears. By the time she finally stood she was growling, no longer caring for stealth. "What the hell are you doing in my clearing?"

He watched as Dubstep overtook him and landed first. He shook his head, smiling. When did his little brother get so much better than him? By the time he landed as well he was laughing. "Those were some great maneuvers you were pulling out there. Did the Thunderbird herd teach you all that?" It certainly hadn't been their parents. At the mention of thirst, Rainbow had to agree that it was time for refreshment. It was a hot day and they had been flying quite a while. He was tired, thirsty, and hungry. "Let's go check out the stream, yeah?" He grinned and began to walk in the direction the sound of moving water seemed to be coming from, but stopped cold at the sound of the third voice. He turned around and came face to face with a creature long fabled to be quite evil, though he had never dealt with one directly. He instinctively faced her directly, standing before his younger brother slightly. "Who are you?"

"I've learned a lot since joining the Thunderbird herd! It's really amazing there. I practice all the time to try to keep up with Euphrates, but she's an angeni so it's pretty much impossible. I get better all the time though!" He beamed with pride. He wasn't a soquili of importance in the herd, but he tried his best and hoped to one day earn some true recognition. At least his mate thought well of him! He turned to walk beside Rainbow towards the water, but turned back around with him at the sound of the stranger's voice. He recognized the mare for what she was immediately. Mostly kalona, but part unicorn too. That made her almost more dangerous than a pure kalona, and he was immediately on guard. "I don't see any indication this is your clearing. However we aren't interested in trouble. Why don't you just leave us be and we'll go?" He moved out from behind Rainbow, giving him a sideways glance that said I don't need protecting anymore.

There is was again. The glares, the defensive postures. They were ready to attack her, when they were the ones that dropped out of the sky nearly on her head. They saw her as a threat. A monster. She could feel it radiating out from them like waves. It fueled her rage and she growled louder, raw and primal. "You are trespassing," she hissed, taking a step closer and unfurling her massive wings. "You don't belong here. Move or I will move you." Her voice was threatening, her muscles taut and ready to spring. How dare they treat her like a monster. She would show them a monster if that's what they want. She could be a monster for them. Her mouth was watering, her fangs itching to sink into flesh.

There was no indication that the mare was going to back down. For one moment the stallion hesitated, wondering what wisdom there was in fighting. There were two of them against the one mare, but Rainbow wasn't much for fighting regardless the odds. He glanced at his brother. He may have grown up, but in many ways he was still very young and inexperienced. Rainbow worried for his safety. He stepped towards the mare again, trying to diffuse the situation. "Look, we're just trying to get some water. It's not like we're moving in. Why don't you just leave us alone?"

He hadn't told his brother about the trouble they'd had in the herd. There were some things he felt were herd business only, despite his familial bonds. Besides, his older brother would have only worried. Dubstep wasn't a stranger to danger or battle, but he also wasn't eager for it. His muscles were tensed and ready for anything the mare might try. They couldn't fly away efficiently, but they were fast runners. He doubted they would run if it came to it, however. He saw the determination on Rainbow's face and knew there was no running. He stepped up alongside his brother, staring the mare down. "Think about what you're doing."

With every syllable the two stallions spoke, the rage built up more. Her tail thrashed behind her, wings twitching irritably. What arrogant assholes! The nerve of them, dropping in and threatening a single mare, the nerve! She growled low once more, but sense held her back. What could she do against two powerful soquili bearing down on her? Take at least one down with you whispered the deep, dark part of herself. She bore her fangs hungrily. "Maybe the two of you should be taught manners," she crooned, circling the two. "You burst into my clearing and then threaten me? This could be your last mistake."

He squared off with the kalona mare, staring her down, his expression changing to one of anger. Clearly she wasn't going to go away and he had to start thinking of solutions. The mare was about to learn a lesson about trying to fight two brothers. "This is your last chance to let us pass before things get ugly. Do you really want to take on both of us?" The blood was racing in his veins, adrenaline high. He was almost itching for the fight. "Because we will take you down. You'd better back away."

He kept turning as she circled, not wanting to put his back to her. How did the day end up this way? They were just supposed to go on a bit of a flight and catch up. Now they were on the cusp of a dangerous fight with this hybrid creature of darkness. He grinned at her menacingly. "Or don't back away and let us teach you your place."

This situation was heating up quickly, and his brother seemed eager for the fight. Dubstep was less enthusiastic and started trying to think of ways to diffuse the situation. He was surprised at the animosity his brother was showing the stranger. She was a menacing female, but wasn't immediately violent. Perhaps this was a simple misunderstanding. He filed his brother's apparent racism away for later discussion and then stepped between the two firmly. "Hey now, can we just calm down? There is no reason to get riled up. No one here wants a fight, right?" He looked pointedly at his brother, then back at the mare. "If you want this area to yourself that's fine. Just let us get a drink and we'll be on our way, ok?" He eyed the female hoping she would calm down and let them go.

She nearly lunged at the stallion, the way he mouthed off at her. The blatant disrespect and ignorant fear. Would she never be free of the stigma? The cruelest part was how even the other kalonas rejected her and treated her with equal hatred and violence. She was never accepted no matter where she went. The only to ever care for her was her mate. If he was there with them, there would be no hesitation and the two intruders would already be taken care of.

She was taken aback when the other stepped up and tried to handle things without a fight. She considered his request, glaring at him and the other in turn. "You two have no respect for others, do you." It was a statement more than a question. She wanted to tear them both limb from limb, but a nagging part of her abhorred the idea, giving her pause. Instead her rage simmered just below the surface.
