Celaeno smirked a bit, pleased by the display of obedience. Her bright cyan eyes followed his movements until he settled near her. At least with both of their bodies near the baskets, the winter’s cold air would be deflected. Turning her head back to the baskets, there was a stillness to them but a soft breathing to signify that they were still alive. It was a relief. The cold did not seem to bother them too much.
Her ears twitched at the sound of the stallion speaking. She stared at the pattern of the basket, knowing there was no real indicator if they were male or female. She scowled a little bit at the thought. It was hard having expectations of having girls the first time around. It was even harder knowing they were both stallions. She was satisfied knowing that Tempest Wind resided in the Flock still as a respectable male and took well to his position, but for the other, she was the least bit pleased by him. As she contemplated on Rave, her feathers appeared to take on a spiky appearance and her claws flexed responding to her irritation. Her son betrayed her and embarrassed her. As a Commander to the Flock, she could tell that others judged her but dared not to say a word to her.
The mare could only take a deep breathe, trying to dissipate any lingering feeling of irritation from her body. Her eyes met with Night Wind’s as she responded in a hushed voice, “I do not know.” She turned away from him again to look at the baskets in admiration. “It is hard to have expectations towards one gender and not get it.” She sighed, trying to avoid getting her hopes up this time around. Even if the foals were male, she trusted that they could become respectable part of the Flock like their brother Tempest Wind.

He thought about his two sons, he tried not to show worry over the one that left the flock. It was rather a painful experience. He could tell that Celaeno was both embarrassed and ashamed of their son, he tried not to bring up Rave. He didn't want to open up wounds again, he cared about Celaeno's feelings, even if he was kidnapped by her. He still loved her. He dare not say it though, he wish not to be struck down by her.
Night Wind's eyes glanced at the baskets, he wished nothing more but for them to be everything that Celaeno had wished for, even if they weren't girls. He knew the first time was a huge disappointment and even a much bigger one when Rave decided to leave without a word. It stung a bit. It hurt a lot that their own son didn't have the decency to say goodbye. He knew Rave felt uncomfortable in the flock and didn't agree with the whole harpy lifestyle, so he didn't blame him for leaving...but he did owe a goodbye at least.
Well a least their one son was useful to the flock. He'll create offspring desirable for the flock. Inside Night Wind had hoped those two baskets contained girls. He wanted Celaeno to be proud and happy with her offspring, not only that he didn't want to feel responsible for creating children that she would deem useless. What if they weren't useful? Would she get irritated with him and trade him off for another stallion?
The thought haunted him. He spent so much time in the flock and around her, he couldn't imagine being without her. He didn't want to be one of those stallions that sat and waited to be used. He was lucky to have been selected by Celaeno as her own personal stallion. He sighed and shook his head to rid the uncomfortable thoughts from his mind.
As the two of them quietly laid there by the baskets his one wing dropped over Celaeno to give more warmth. He closed his eyes as he started to feel at ease and relaxed, he opened his eyes when he noticed one of the baskets began to move about. It must be time soon for their new babies to grace the world with their presence. Only time could tell if their offspring will give their flock what it needs, the only thing he could do is show that he loves them and help them with whatever issues they might have. He might have failed to be a good father to Rave, he wasn't about to make the same mistake again.
No, he'll do much better this time around. He let out a yawn and he soon felt himself drifting into slumber.
