Kiele was grazing quietly near his favourite stream. The stream lay at the foot of a number of big, snowy mountains. They were so high up that when he craned his neck, he wasn't even able to see the tip, as it disappeared in a pool of thick, white/grey clouds. His family had warned him never to try to climb those mountains. He loved snow, but they said the snow was so cold it would freeze his hooves, and after a while his whole body would freeze, and if he fell, he would crack into a ga-jillion pieces! He was doubtful of course... They may have just been trying to scare him from doing silly things or running away as a young foal.

He chewed on the stale piece of grass slowly. It was bland, considering the season. Everything was bland. The once colourful seasonal fields and trees were now bare and desaturated. At least in the autumn there were lots and lots of colours. Now, the earth was devoid of colour. Except for the mountain... The mountain looked alive, and inviting. He considered heading over right to the edge and wandering a bit in the snow...

What could possibly go wrong? He was a fully grown stallion now. No need to be afraid of silly tales told to scare children.

Cold winds and icy blizzards.. these were her favourite skies. Arya had spent the morning hunting, and for some, the weather may have been a put off, but she enjoyed the challenge. Also, it gave her an advantage on her prey. She blended right in with the blizzard, and they didn’t see her coming until her teeth were snapping at their neck. Arya enjoyed eating meat. A lot of others she knew despised her for it, but it was her lifestyle choice. Who were they to judge? Small game like hares, foxes, pheasants, were all delicious. She had never fed on humans or horses before, and didn’t intent to, but had no trouble injuring them if they got on her nerves. And a lot of people got on her nerves.

She flapped her big strong wings, black hair flowing behind her. Game had been scarce today. She hadn’t considered that it may be too cold for little animals to be out and about. Arya was really feeling famished, and would resort to eating veggies if she had to, but those weren’t around either in the winter time. She dipped down from her high altitude. Perhaps she’d have a higher chance at the foot of the mountain, where the winds weren’t so thick with snow. In the far distance, she saw something small and brown. It looked too big to be a small critter, but she had to take a chance. She was starving after all. If it was another soquili, maybe he had a plump familiar for the taking.

Maya Nox was a strong, strong stallion. He walked elegantly and with purpose as he put each leg in front of the other, muscles bulging behind pure white skin. His black wings flittered behind him, as though they had a mind of their own and were dancing in the blizzard. He was quite a sight to behold. A regal, almost royal, protector of the night, with deep, matte black eyes.

Maya had been away for quite some time. He didn’t like to talk about his absence, and was dead set on not telling anyone where he’d been. He wanted to forget about that period of his life. He had been away for so long, far from the real world, and endured horrors far too terrible to even speak of. He hated his time away especially because it meant that he’d abandoned his sister when she was just a little filly… She must not even remember him anymore. If she did, he’d be suprised. He wasn’t sure what would be worse. If she did remember him and didn’t forgive him for abandoning her, or if she didn’t remember him at all.

Maya had asked around for her whereabouts, and he didn’t like the rumours he’d heard, about an evil-hearted eerily beautiful mare who stalked the cold mountains and hunted for live meat at night. That wasn’t the sister he knew… She had been such a sweet little girl. How could she be capable of harming someone else? Then another fear crept into his mind. Would she even accept him back in her life?

Kiele started to shiver to keep warm, but to no avail. His pelt wasn’t built for cold like this. Nonetheless, he had to keep going. He wanted to see how far up he could make it up the mountain. Maybe he could find a memento to show his family and friends when boasting of his adventure. Had he gone crazy? Nah, he was still young and reckless. This was the time when he could do crazy things and still get away with it. Everything was going to be just fine.

A sound came from up above. He jerked up his head, but couldn’t see anything because of the thick snowfall. Had it been lightning? No, it was a softer but deeper sound than that. Shrugging, he continued walking, hooves now deep in snow. Then he heard it again. Almost like a ’huummpph hummpph’. It sounded almost like… flapping wings? Before he could look up again this time, a jolt of pain spread through his body as he was crushed under the weight of something larger than him. Was he being attacked? Oh god no!! He thought in fear. He couldn’t move his legs at all. He was stuck! Something flipped him over onto his back. The cold snow dug into his back like icy daggers, further paralyzing him. His mane was soaking wet, snow was building up on his belly and the rest of his body, slowly forming a white blanket. He blinked away at the snow and saw a black haired mare staring down at him. “Oh thank heavens! Help me! I’m stuck!” he wailed out helplessly. She didn’t respond, only stared back at him with empty, white eyes and an expressionless face.

She had cloud-like things floating about her, and big white wings. That was when he realised the sounds he had heard were her wings, and what had came down from above and attacked him was probably her. Terror set in, as he realised this mare may not have good intentions with him.

Arya eyed the brown stallion beneath her. He was small for a stallion, perhaps a youngling or maybe just built small. She didn’t really care. It had been easy enough to get him on his back. Once she landed on him from above and knocked him over, the snow paralyzed him and the rest was all his own fault, turning over and getting himself soaked like that. He was probably paralyzed from fear or shock too. It had been easy. She remembered hares that had given her more of a fight than this stallion.

He seemed to be travelling alone. She was beginning to get irritated from hunger. She placed her right hoof on his chest and pressed down heavily. He neighed in pain.

“You. Where’s your companion.” she demanded. He looked back at her with a puzzled expression. “Your familiar, companion, whatever you weaklings call the critters you choose to accompany you every day. Where. Is. Yours?” she spat. The stallion now understood, but started shaking and quivering, and this time not from the cold. He was absolutely terrified.

“I I I I- … I d-don’t have one.” he sputtered, and closed his eyes in fear, awaiting his fate. Arya would never seriously maim him, but she was furious that she wasn’t going to be able to eat. She lifted her hoof high, planning on stomping on his chest before letting him go to release her frustration out on something, before a deep voice behind her called “NO!” and she froze.

Maya Nox couldn’t believe his eyes. He’d found her! That was his little sister! She was flying gracefully, and took his breath away. She was so beautiful, and all grown up! He felt an immense feeling of love and adoration wash over him as he watched her from afar. Everything was going to be alright now. Siblings would reunite, and they’d live happily ever after. He smiled, watching her. Something was wrong. Maya squinted to get a closer look at her. She was descending rapidly, aiming for a brown-ish looking stallion at the foot of the mountain. Maya still couldn’t quite put the pieces together. What was she doing? Surely she didn’t mean to harm him-

He caught his breath as she landing on top of him. No… you can’t! he thought, but he was too far to call out to her. He started into a rapid sprint, going as fast as he could though his hooves feel knee-deep into the snow. He didn’t feel the cold, his skin was like iron. Waiting till he was within earshot to call out to her, he watched the two talk, the poor young stallion beneath her quivering in fear and cold. Then just as she was about to stomp on his chest he called to her. She froze. Did she recognize his voice? Would she?

She turned her head and their eyes met. He wasn’t sure if she knew who he was. Her face was expressionless. God knows what his face looked like right now.
