When the nekomata woke up that morning he nearly panicked when he realized he had an overdue library book pending. Not wanting to pay a fee, he rushed to get dressed and leave his dorm room to take a bus to head over to the old library he usually frequented. While the morning was cool and crisp, jhe merely kept his jacket close and pushed his earbuds into his ears as he attached it to his scarephone.

Even if he was standing and holding a bag with his book, he found himself zoning out as he stood still. The demon however soon was rudely brought from his daydreaming when he heard the announcement for the next stop. The Maul.

He’d completely overshot the Library! What in Jack had he been doing all this time? Despite the obvious of course, Kamakura was annoyed. Normally he didn’t miss his stop, and to make matters worse it looked like a monsoon outside. His eyes widened at the sight of the large amount of water pouring from the skies onto the city below. Kamakura growled, not recalling a downpour like this one called for in the forecast. Add to that he was usually more aware of his surroundings than this, leaving him baffled.

As he stepped off the bus, he shouldered his bag and contemplated catching the next bus back the way he’d come. The sheer amount of water sent him running for the inside of The Maul to seek shelter from the rain. His teeth clattered as he stood inside, warming up a bit as he stared outside the window as creeple went running, while a few went right along swimming as if it were perfectly natural for the streets to be flooded.

Rolling his eyes, Kama sighed as he looked back towards the direction of the inner workings of the maul. It wasn’t like he wouldn’t be able to easily get back to the Academy from here and he did still have an errand to run…but the allure of discounted goods had peeked his interest. It’s not like it would kill him to look around. Well, perhaps so long as he avoided the fountain center. There was a rumor if you got sucked inside you’d be expelled into the sewers and never heard from or seen again.

He’d rather avoid vanishing into thin air, he had aspirations for becoming a better fireweaver and shapeshifter all around. The demon wasn’t interested in getting eaten by some grumpy Halloweener and forced to dissipate or Jack only knew what.

As Kamakura walked around he wrinkled his nose at the sound of scarelings being louder than a hellhounds baying call. He wondered for a moment what was worse, the loud noises or the rain outside. There was one particular scareling stood proud apart from the rest absolutely pitching a hissy fit about wanting candy. His monstrous mum looked like she’d seen better nights, and repeatedly told him no. An idea occurred to him as he made his way over to the candy shop where the scene was unfolding.

While the place was overrun by little tiny terrors of all ages and sizes, Kama made a point of going up to buy himself candy with his own pumpkin seeds. The kid leveled him a spiteful stare, in which the demon proceeded to eat his own goodies as he walked along without a second thought. The unholy howling noise it produced was well worth spending the money on the discounted treats.

Wandering away from the delightful scene, Kama next went for the pet store to pick up a few goodies for his pets back home. What he walked into instead was a chaotic scene. There was a monsterous vine that was trying to eat a helpless little minipet being dragged closer to be consumed. Without asking, Kamakura reached out, burning away the vine holding the creature. It’s red eyes had been watery, it’s frantic yelling noises eased as it was freed. Looking to it’s savior, the creature hopped towards the demon hiding behind him. Glaring pointedly at the shop attendant, Kamakura looked back at the vine-creature. “Well…I didn’t come here to buy a mini but I guess I’ll take this one.” He went to get his wallet, reaching down to pick up the frightened creature. He’d go into his closet storage space until he got back to his dorm, but he’d give the little guy a good home regardless.

Once he made his transaction, and the creatures remains were being cleaned up (more had come to deal with it while he’d paid for his new mini) he left the maul to head for the bus station. Before he went, he made a point of tracking down the rotten little shitty child and quietly gave him a piece of candy before leaving.

Kamakura quickly made his way outside fully expecting to need to run to avoid getting soaked. Just like that, the rain had let up and it was windy. Shaking his head, Kama wondered why he’d even been surprised by the freak weather. It was pretty damn normal around here.

Tsking he pushed his hands in his pockets as he caught the next bus back to the library and dropped off his book. With that done, he was free to head back at his leisure. It’d been an unexpected side trip, but he’d saved a mini from certain peril, and gotten himself a good supply of candy to munch on while he studied. All in all, he couldn’t complain really.
