User Image Damian still didn’t know what was going on with his life.

Why? Well, things had changed so drastically. Not but a few moons ago, he was fighting, attacking and getting blood on his hooves and horns. He was laid curled up with his lovely mate, and talking quietly about children and possibly moving the herd that he was in charge of, into a safer location. He was perfectly content; happy. But then things changed; things changed so quickly that the stallion barely had time to blink his somewhat glowing eyes.

His mate left; left him without a word in the middle of the night. He was over thrown by another stallion, kicked while he was down and shoved out of his own herd. And everything he knew and loved was gone. With no family or friends around him, no herd to protect him, what was the point? He couldn’t return back to the herd, he couldn’t look back. And it scared him. He was lost in this world around him before he could even consider what was going to happen. And it scared him a little. Damian was never scared… Not until recently.

The half Kalona half Cerynei moved quietly through the forest, his large wings folded carefully over his back, and the only thing having kept him warm as the fall season started up being the wolf pelt on his back. His hooves crunched over fallen, dead leaves and branches making his footfall noisier than his usual stealth. His horns brushed against branches every so often, making even more noises. But… honestly? He didn’t care. The stallion was so tired of caring, that it almost pained him to even consider doing so any longer. His tail gave a slight flick, and he paused to consider his position, a frown moving over his strong features.

Damian let out a held breath, before he moved quietly forward and toward the sound of running water. His head tilted to the side some, ears swiveling, before he looked around as if to make sure the path was clear. He walked over to the river, his hooves sinking somewhat in a bit of mud, before he dipped his head down to sniff at the blades of grass that grew there, his eyes flickering for a moment before closing. It smelled sweet, and that alone made him crave the taste of it. But he hadn’t eaten in days, and why start now? He lifted his eyes, his long hair falling into his face for a moment before he tossed his hair over his shoulder, and stood up to his full height, wings stretching slightly beside him. He breathed out a sigh, and shook his head, staring down at the grass.

”What’s the point…” He muttered.

Can you hear it? The high, yet small sound of a bell. Chatura could hear it, hear it well as it was hanging around her neck, a slowly jingling reminder of her broken heart, of the missing other half that should have been by her side. She knew that it was folly to still be wearing the gift from Sastimos, it was not helping her get over him and her mother had put that to her on numerous times since she'd returned home.

Yet still it was around her neck, and as she walked, the autumnal breeze lifting her mane, it sounded almost like it was taunting her. Her mother's sympathy and kindness, whilst initially welcome as she had poured at her sorrows, now felt cloying, and it meant that despite Chatura not really wishing for company, had taken to going on long walks as she tried to work out exactly how she had gotten to this point in her life.

"Where did you go?" she said out loud as she walked along, her hooves kicking aside the drifts of fallen leaves, the moisture on the grass making her hooves and fetlocks damp. Of course she wasn't expecting an answer, there hadn't been an answer for months, except the horrible thoughts that had swirled around her head since. What she did hear was the sound of water, and with a lack of any particular direction she headed towards it.

When she'd gotten to a point where she could see where the ground was dipping down towards where the watercourse was, her nostrils flared and she was sure she scented a strange Soquili. She stopped dead in her tracks, a cold sweat breaking out as she didn't know whether to keep going or to turn around and hope that whoever she had detected hadn't heard or caught her scent..

Damian shifted slowly, letting his eyes linger on the water. He tilted his head, staring down at himself for several moments; at the bone mask that covered his face. And it made him stiffen. Why did he continue to wear this? Why did he continue to have the bones covering his face. He shifted some and lifted his head, glancing around in thought. He could take the mask off... He could remove it and start his new life.

Or he could figure out what that noise was.

The stallion lifted his head, eyes locking in the direction of the noise. He flared his wings for a moment, his tail flicking before lowering some, and his ears pinning back. He was used to fighting; used to going out and attacking those that came near him. And his first response was to do just that. He beat his wings a few times, before folding them down against his sides, blowing out a huff of air. He couldn't act like this. He wasn't locked within his herd and forcing everyone to fight any more. He wasn't trying to keep himself alive. No. He was fine. He wasn't going to act like this. He wasn't going to attack everything that walked toward him. There was no point. He frowned some and shook his head, before taking a few steps toward the noise.

"Who's there?" Damian called, his voice firm. He hoped not to scare it off... That would be rude, right?

Well that solved that conundrum, whoever it was had heard her. The voice sounded distinctly masculine, so at least she knew for definate that it wasn't her great grandmother, but that just meant there was only a small chance she wouldn't get hurt by this stranger and not no chance.

She stood quietly for a few moments more, her mind working as she tried to work out her options before whoever it was actually moved towards where she was standing. If she ran now, he would hear her, and he may give chase. She didn't know his physicality, whether he had wings or not, so running wasn't an option when she knew so little.

Chatura swallowed thickly. This was the first time since the event that she'd been in a situation like this and she hoped that she would be able to look back on her fear and laugh at some point as she nervously stepped forwards, eventually coming into view of the stallion, seeing him for the first time.

"I am." she replied, her voice as steady as she could make it, even as she took in the visage of bone and the claw tipped batlike wings that spoke of a certain breed somewhere in his lineage. She couldn't quite stop the slight tremble that was running over her, and she hoped he couldn't see that she a little afraid.

The stallion didn’t care; he didn’t care who it was. He could hold his own in any fight. He was used to doing such a thing. After all, if he didn’t, he’d be dead all ready. Even when they attacked him, made him to feel like he was weak and pathetic, he rose up and was able to fight them back and leave. He didn’t want to be seen by those mares and stallions as weak or pathetic. He was strong, he was a fighter. And no one would take that from him. So whomever was waiting in the brush, away from him… He would fight them if he had to. But he wanted that life to be gone; he wanted to move on from it and be someone different. Someone new. And so he waited, calm, quiet. He waited to hear who it was and see what they wanted. Because if he rushed this; if he moved forward and fought them? He’d be just as bad as he was when he was within that herd.

But then she stepped out, and Damian’s ears snapped up to attention, his wings flared slightly. And he waited a moment before folding them back tight against his side. Make himself smaller. His tail flicked behind him, and he let his eyes linger over her form. She was so small, delicate. Most mares were, he’d note. But he was used to being around fighters; those that wouldn’t take no for an answer and would kill to make sure they were on top of the food chain. Hell, his previous mate… No. He wouldn’t think of her. He shook his head roughly, causing the mask to shift over his face before settling back down along his nose. He adjusted his wings slightly to be more comfortable, before taking a half step toward the mare, and let his eyes linger over her once more.

She was such a soft blue… with dark hair and legs. She was… different. Didn’t look like a fighter. Damian let his eyes linger away, around. She was alone? Out here? Wasn’t that dangerous? And for a moment he thought to question it more, but instead, pushed the thought away and focused once more on her. He shouldn’t ask such questions. Rude. Must not be rude. Instead, he forced the best smile he could manage onto his features, under the bone mask. Hopefully he wouldn’t be creepy looking. Damian dipped his head slightly in a greeting, his wings splaying out in a sort of bow, before he straightened and folded his wings once more along his back. “My apologies… I did not mean to startle you.” He said, forced out really. He didn’t usually talk like that… and being polite was… forced, at best.

She shrank back instinctively, the stance and the wings opening seemed very aggressive, and Chatura's panic level rose significantly. She couldn't make words right then, but his body language slowly changed again, his wings folded and she felt there was a lessening. His wings though...she tried to manage herself, to control the fear that his small resemblance to a kalona had evoked.

She watched him carefully, silently, as he seemed to give her a very searching once over. When he shook, she saw that the bone on his face was something seperate, a mask and he was in fact flesh beneath, which calmed her more. She did not know why he wore the mask, maybe it was for facial protection? It was a question to be asked once she knew that she was in no danger.

"You did not startle me. Not really." her voice sounded brittle in her ears, her throat dry and had to give a small cough before talking again.

"Your appearance.." she continued carefully, not wanting to give offence to this imposing stranger.
"I'm sorry, but your wings. They have a slightly troubling association for me."

Chatura didn't want it to sound like it was a bid deal, after all she knew, knew that if you looked like a Kalona it didn't mean you were a vicious killer. It would take time though for her to be comfortable and not have an instant panic reaction anytime she saw someone that resembled a kalona.

Damian saw that she started to calm. And that fact alone made him relax as well. He breathed out a sigh, letting his ears fold back for a moment before perking back up. She seemed to stare at his wings more than anything, and it made her head tilt, and stare back at the leathery appendages. He stretched them out for a moment, before folding them back against his back firmly. He managed to make them press close, to where it was almost as if they were part of his sides and not able to separate. If they were a reason that she was uncomfortable, than the stallion would try his hardest not to let it bother her. He dipped his head down, trying to seem less intimidating as best as he could. But that wasn’t how he usually acted; no. He fought. Killed. Did whatever he wanted and didn’t give a damn if it hurt someone in return.

Or that’s how he used to act. Now it was different. Now he wasn’t as bad of a person; right? He breathed out a sigh, lifting one of his hooves up and brushed his nose against his cloven hoof. It forced the mask from his face, letting it fall down to the ground in front of him. And when he seemed a little more human, he lifted his head up, and peered at the girl once more. He wasn’t going to be nearly as intimidating now, right? He flicked his short tail, head cocking to the side which caused his horns, in turn, to bump against some tree branches. Damian let out a curse, glaring at the branches before he took a half step forward so as to get out of the way of the trees. It would be embarrassing to get his antlers stuck.

Damian offered her an almost nervous, uncertain smile. He didn’t know how he was going to make this work. How he was going to be social… civil. He inclined his head again, in a sort of bow as he tried to keep himself calm and polite. ”My wings…?” He mimicked curiously. He glanced back toward them, staring at the way they pressed tight to his ribs. So something had hurt her in some way then… Something had happened in her past that involved his species. Or half his species. He flicked an ear to the side, picking up the sounds around them before he let his eyes flicker over her again, searching for scars or anything that could show how she was harmed. ”I can try and keep them to my sides, if that will make you more comfortable. I… I’m… Hm.” The stallion seemed loss for words for a moment, before he shrugged a shoulder as best as he could. ”My name is Damian… Are you all right?” He asked, struggling with being polite.
