So maybe it took them several more hours than Nyx had planned in order to reach the grove of trees that she had remembered. Part of the problem was that the lioness had Kanzi circle around the same area with her three times before she finally saw the knotted tree. Now that they were finally here the lioness took a moment to appreciate the area. It was darker here since the trees blocked out a good portion of the sun so mostly the floor was mossy and damp rather than dry. Vines grew in abundance here and draped down from several of the tree branches making a canopy of sort.

It was the vines that Nyx pointed out, “See them? All we have to do is push through and then we’re there.” It was a hollowed out area of a huge tree that had grown from three saplings a long time ago. Nyx loved it as it made her think of a hideaway from home…but now the ironies was that it truly was her hideaway since she currently had no home. Still the lioness appreciated the heavy coverage of vines as she nudged Kanzi, “Think that’ll work for you?”

If all went well she could leave him here to rest while she went to look for her twin. Still her heart clenched at the thought. Surely I’m just afraid of being alone again… what if she went out to find Nox and never did? What if Kanzi wasn’t here when she returned? So many troubling thoughts bothered the lioness but she tried her best to shake them away. This was not a time to panic, but rather she needed to stay calm. I can do that, right?
