Until stated by the mule, only path 2.1 and path 2.2 trolls may post here.
Open rp may be held in this thread from the 28th to the 5th.
On the morning of the 6th, all rebel trolls will be assumed to have arrived and be here! If you'd like an 'entrance post', please do it by the 5th.
For anything that you wish to continue past this date, please do so in a 'meta-inspired' rp thread of your own.

The headquarters was now open and more like home than anything mysterious, distant, and possibly foreboding. There were no longer any cloaked and mysterious adult trolls striding the halls, watching the younger recruits with more than a hint of suspicion. No password was needed to get in, all who knew the underground location to the east of Chittentown had proven themselves deserving of access. On the other hand, even if a stricter entrance guard was necessary, it simply wouldn't be possible with the Initiative's reduced numbers. The stretching maze of tunnels that combed outwards from the base had once been one of the Initiative's greatest assets, and now was it's largest risk.

Most of the secret passages out had been halfheartedly blocked, filled in with rubble and other nondescript clutter to dissuade any would-be adventurer from accidentally stumbling into the sanctuary. Still, the chances of a true treasure seeker, or worse, determinedly ploughing through the stop-gap barricades was a distinct possibility. So the tunnels needed to be properly sealed, filled in to the end, so that there was no hint of a passage through. It called for the strength of all Byakko's allies, to move rubble, organize others, stand guard, or simply provide a helping hand should any troll threaten to drop something heavy on their foot.

It had taken a long time and a lot of work, but the base was finally starting to shape up again after being trashed during the fight with the insurgents. Zeffer had visited the caverns numerous times after the disastrous conflict, not wanting to leave Byakko to deal with the grizzly clean-up on her own. It had been a grueling job, but they had managed to clear the bodies and most of the blood before the rot began to stink up the place too horribly. There were still some questionable spots left on the craggy ceiling, but they were so high up that it was easy to forget their presence.

Zeffer had found that there was an unending amount of work to be done, and Akko seemed all too happy to direct him from one task to the next. He'd come and gone over the span of the previous weeks, trying to do his part to recover the space and make it theirs. With the Initiative set to reconvene soon, he was still hard at work. His current job had a dual purpose; to shift debris and act as security guard, just as he'd discussed with Akko some time ago. So far, it had been horribly uneventful.

He lurked around the tunnels near the entrance to the main meeting room, going back and forth as he carted rubble and rocks to areas that still needed to be barricaded. Uneventful was a good thing, he supposed...despite his optimism and determination, more worrisome thoughts were lurking around in his mind. The fact that Byakko chose to remain in a base the enemy undoubtedly knew about was not something that sat well with him. She had reassured him, of course, and pointed out that filling the extra entrances would provide some protection. He wasn't convinced.

Heaving a sigh, he dumped the rocks in his ramshackle wheelbarrow at the end of one of the tunnels to be plugged, before heading back up. He'd been at it for some time already, and as he reached the entry tunnel again, he leaned the wheelbarrow against the wall, before wandering further into the base to look for the mutantblood, and take a breather.

(( Maneki Belbog / Byakko ))

This was the first time in his young troll life that so many people were coming into his home. The Phoenix Initiative was finally meeting and Maneki could NOT sit still. No level of threats or cajoling could stem the excitement that burst from every poor of the trolls body. There were tables and chairs filled with new things and there were tunnels that mysteriously ended with trash heaps - TRASH HEAPS!

Everything was crazy, new, and bright. If he had been more self aware, this change would have been unnerving. Frightening even. As it stood it was the most important and exciting event of his life. Maneki was in seventh heaven.

As the new stuff on the tables lost their appeal, Maneki returned to his lusus' side. Excitement made his body vibrate and what started out as a brisk walk turn into a full blown run, making the bell choker around his neck tinkle at an alarming rate. Skidding to a halt in front of Byakko, he grabbed fist fulls of her jacket and climbed up his lusi parent with ease that belied the many times he had done just this. "Bakao! Bakao! When are they gonna get here?" He grinned widely while hanging off her shoulders, "Derd's here too, right? Right? Do you think he'll give me a toy? Do you think I'll make friends? Do you think we can have fun an' play in the tunnels?"

Truthfully, Byakko couldn't bare to leave the old rebel headquarters in the state it had been in after the slaughter with Errade. In a sense it had been her home, and the rebel leader didn't want to abandon and leave it, and everyone in it, to rot. After everything that had happened, it just didn't feel right to simply... forget. Clearing out the base decently enough so she felt comfortable asking the others to return had been gruesome; but she couldn't possibly have asked them to help with that. Thankfully Zeffer was down for anything, as usual, and the grim chore sped by faster than she had anticipated. Now only the task of plugging up the many winding tunnels remained, and soon they'd all be reunited for the first time since regrouping at the brooding caverns. And for for the first time in what seemed like sweeps, Akko felt truly optimistic. The small troll scampering alongside her had helped with that.

Crunching through the debris, Byakko led the orangeblood towards the meeting cavern, keeping a watchful eye on him as he practically bounced off the cave walls. "Maneki, take it easy." Although she tried to reprimand him sternly for jumping on her, she couldn't stop her words melting into a light chuckle. Reaching down, she hoisted the smaller mutantblood up higher, locking one arm underneath him for support. "Everyone will be here soon." A lone lower eyelid twitched as Maneki mentioned 'derd'. "Mhm, Zeffer- don't call him that nickname- is probably already here. Should we look for him?" She ignored the question about the toy, silently hoping that Zeff wasn't intending on spoiling him too much. Regardless of her internal brooding over the nice things the blueblood could afford to buy that she couldn't (he needed to train, not play with fancy highblood toys thank you very much), a faint smile lingered on Akko's face. She found it difficult to keep her austere stare around the tiny mutantblood's overwhelming bubbliness. She gave Maneki a light squeeze.

"I'm sure you'll make lots of friends here. But remember- we're not here to play. We have work to do." Nodding intently down at him, she gave him a stiff pat on the head.

As they turned a corner, Byakko spotted an all too familiar set of tall horns and obnoxious hair at the end of the dimly lit tunnel. "Aah, there you are." She called out, lifting a free hand to wave down Zeffer. Balancing Maneki on her hip, she trotted lightly over to meet her friend, doing her best to swallow back her apparent good mood.

"How goes it?" Noting he looked rather dirty and... glistened with sweat, she gave him a good long stare. The she realized she was essentially checking him out. Abruptly clearing her throat, she bent over to release Maneki before straightening back up. "Guess you've been here awhile."

Zeffer grinned at the sound of footsteps echoing down the hallways, knowing it could only be Akko, come to admire the progress he'd made. By the sound of it, Maneki was with her, not a surprising fact considering she rarely let the kid out of her sight.

"Hey." He smirked as he closed the distance between them, reaching up to brush a hand through his mohawk. He'd ditched his jacket somewhere in the process of hauling s**t around, allowing Akko quite the eyeful with only his slatted shirt on.

"It's goin' alright. Still a lot to be done, but we'll get there. No signs of anyone else lurking around, either. How about you?" A snicker escaped him as he caught her staring, but he abstained from making any comments, knowing it would be unwise to expose Maneki to their usual tomfoolery. They'd done a fairly good job of sparing him from the worst of their inappropriate bullshit, though he'd still managed to witness a spat or two since his arrival.

Zeffer stooped down as Akko released Maneki, grinning as his attention shifted to the youngster for a moment. "Hey little Man. Bet you're excited, huh? I got you a little something, but we'll have to find my jacket..."

(( Maneki Belbog / Byakko / Zeffer ))

The scolding tempered Maneki's grin and good mood, but only a smidgen. It was difficult to really snuff out the excitement that bubbled inside of him. When Byakko wrapped an arm below him and gave him a squeeze, he relaxed against her fully. "I knooooow." He sighed at the reminder that she hated the nickname. It was difficult to not call him derd. Zeffer sounded too formal! And lots of trolls called him Zef.

Her pats broke Maneki's brooding thoughts over nicknames, "But we can still have fun and work. I'm sure we can!" And if he believed it hard enough, it had to be true, right? Right. He was lucky, after all. Being lucky meant that his wishes would come true. Or something. He was pretty sure one of those books he read said so.

Finding Zeffer was a delightfully easier task than taking this situation seriously. Many thoughts ran through his head as the two talked, like "Where's his jacket?" "Why is his shirt ripped?" "HIS HAIR IS STILL TALL!" "I wonder if I can get so muscley." Eventually the excitement and hyperness elicited by the situation would calm down as it became normal. Until then, it was preposterous to think that Maneki could take this seriously or not reflect the excitement he felt onto others.

This reflection included Derd. After being released from the hip hold and seeing as Derd had stooped to be on his level, Maneki bounced over to hug and cling to the adult, "Yeah! This is going to be really really fun. Oh, that's where your jacket is? I was wondering. Where did you leave it? You got me something? OH cool!" Maneki wanted to gush more about the excitement of a new toy, but stopped short when he recalled some manners, "Thank you Derd."

A thin trail of smoke wafted up to the ceiling, whispering from the match Aprife had just put out. The light of a candle flickering on the desk was enough to see what he needed to as he sat stiffly, on alert, despite being the only pulse in the room (and let's not forget, the only thing that didn't smell just a tinge stale). It was rare he found himself distanced so quickly from the meeting cavern, hidden away from where the real action would inevitably begin, but he simply couldn't resist the call of the files spread out in front of him.

It was his first chance to truly parse through all the knowledge cataloged here, now that his promotion granted him the access to. There was hardly enough time to skim all of it tonight, but a start would satisfy him enough to get him through until he could. Aprife was positive there were notes of real significance here, somewhere, and he planned on searching and re-organizing until he could recall it all from memory.

A steep goal, but the yellowblood did love a challenge.

For a while his attention held fast despite the constant nagging something at the back of his mind, but it simply didn't last. Eyes darted from the documents, no matter how interested he found himself, and scanned the room not once or twice, but many times. He sighed, flipping shut what he'd been reading. It seemed he was a bit too on edge to keep his focus. Returning to this particular base after everything that had happened here... it made him a touch uneasy.

Stretching up from his chair, he decided it was time for a walk. Perhaps he'd lend a hand to the tunnel efforts. If nothing else, he hoped to size up any newcomers as he took inventory of those who'd chosen to return. It was time to start keeping on top of things, he thought, sauntering out of the intelligence office.

PostPosted: Thu Jul 30, 2015 10:32 pm
Why was he even here?

No, he didn't even mean that in the traditional "******** All" Muerte Perist sort of way. Why was anyone even here? Sure, he'd received summons like he predicted, and though it took him a few nights time to decide what to do, he inevitably made it out here despite his best judgement. The back of his head felt heavy, his eyes were narrow, and he looked generally unpleasant and unapproachable and irritable from the tiny little make-shift first aid table he had set up.

What? It wasn't like he was coming to help clear rubble. The very idea was preposterous and would just be a huge eyesore for everyone involved. He would leave the grunt work to the hulking uneducated brutes (see: everyone except for yours truly) while he did something a little more clever. Ah yes, Muerte was a doctor first and foremost (after a scientist, of course) and what better way was there to lend his aid rather than provide what he was best in? He wouldn't be surprised if anyone ended up strained or injured from the general nature of the tasks at hand, and so here he was, sitting in a chair with his arms crossed as he busied himself with a book.

It was, as he ******** expected, as boring as one might imagine.

Few had actually stopped, and they were all minor things to boot. Scrapes and lusii-boo boo's and things hardly requiring the very elaborate tools he had tucked away in a bag under the table. Where were all the deep, life threatening cuts and gashes? No one was even slightly concussed? He would be amazed if he wasn't so fed up with the tedium. He hadn't even seen any of his own acquaintances in passing, and while he knew it would probably be obnoxious to converse with either of them and only prove to make him even more mad, it would at least be something.

Ah, but back to his suspicions. Wasn't this place... not so secret anymore? With the upheaval that ended in the culling of more than half of the Initiative's forces (along with the reveal of being betrayed to the crown), was it really so smart to try and stay here? Filling in the excess tunnels seemed redundant. Surely the entire map of this place had already been leaked out.

Ah, but he wasn't being paid to have opinions, no matter how true and right they were. He was being paid for his medicine and his scientific exploits and he supposed that's just what he'd do. Deep breaths Perist.

The book wasn't getting any more interesting however, that was for ******** sure.

"You're welcome. Just gotta find it first." Zeffer snickered as he scooped up the tiny mutantblood, returning the hug lightly, aware that he was still sticky with sweat. The kid's energy was contagious, a characteristic that Zeffer appreciated. So very different from Byakko...he couldn't help but wonder sometimes if her stoic demeanor would ever rub off on him.

"I draped it over a boulder somewhere around here..." He ruffled Maneki's hair as he gently disengaged from the hug to stand up. After taking a few steps down the tunnel and looking around, and gave a pleased 'ah' to see that he hadn't left it too far behind. It didn't take long to retrieve it, and he returned to show Maneki his prize once he'd done so.

"Here it is. Check this s**t out." He sat down on a flatter rock and dug into one of the pockets, retrieving three small, colorful bouncy balls and holding them out for the little mutant. His eyes flicked up to Akko mischievously, before looking back down at Maneki.

"They're really bouncy, so be careful...we oughta go test 'em out in the meeting cavern, so they don't get lost out here." He smirked at the thought, giving the youngster's head another pat before rising to his feet and stretching his arms up. Aprife and Muerte were somewhere around, too... and long overdue for pestering.

Byakko's lower eyelid twitched again, this time twice, when Maneki tossed around that awful nickname despite her warning minutes ago. Derd. At least... at least he had minded his manners? Not that Byakko particularly cared about Maneki's etiquette for the time being. Being polite was nice and all that, but she had much more important things to lecture him about. Akko added explaining how a troll only had a singular guardian to her mental check list. She sighed heavily, defeated. Nicknames: 2, Akko: 0.

Crossing her arms, she resentfully watched the two chatter to one another. It still surprised her how well they got along; their personalities seemed to click wonderfully, but Zeffer was permanently filed away in the 'dickhead' category. She had specifically asked Zeff not to shower Maneki with gifts. Naturally, he had gotten the kid something anyway. Her nose scrunched in silent disapproval, but Akko hadn't the pump biscuit to intervene. Maneki looked so damned joyful. He pretty much always did, but... Byakko deflated further.

At least they were just bal- oooh. Oh gog. Those weren't regular plastic balls. She realized what Zeffer was offering, mouth gaped. Of all the ******** things in the world to bring into the Initiative's headquarters. "W-wait," Byakko stepped forward, frantically waving her hands in front of her. "Maybe we should just wait until later to play with them." She glanced down at Maneki apologetically. "Work to do, right?"

Akko turned to squint down the tunnel in the direction of the meeting cavern. "We should still head that way, though. Haven't run into anyone else yet since we just got here, but there's bound to be someone around." Offering her hand to Maneki, a faint smile flickered back onto her face. "Ready to make some friends?"

(( Maneki Belbog / ))

Released from the hug, Maneki watched as Zeffer turned to find his coat. In that moment the little mutant shot a pleased and excited smile at his merm. Who knew what crazy things derd would bring. It was like the other troll had a plethora of odd and amazing items at his fingertips. There was a little inkling in the happiness that Byakko was against the gifts... but it was faint and washed away with the mutants wont to push his emotions onto others. What would be wrong about something so friggin' awesome!?

And speaking of friggin' awesome, Zeffer delivered on the promise of the new toy. Maneki's eyes grew wide as dinner plates as the three bouncy balls were offered out. Tentatively taking them in his hands, he turned them slowly in the dim light of the candles. They were a little opaque and had an odd, rough texture. Their colors were bright, but muted due to the strange material. These would be fun to chase down the tunnels or in the meeting room. But it got better. They BOUNCED. Maneki's eyes twinkled at the adult blueblood, "Really? Oh I can't wait -- Huh? Aw... Bakao..."

Playing sounded so much more fun than working, but it was true that they were there to work. And the Phoenix Initiative was about hard work, right? Everyone doing their duty and following the code. Maneki wanted to live as closely to it as possible, to emulate his dearest Merm in all things PI related. Reluctantly he nodded towards Byakko before returning his attention to Zeffer. A serious, almost Byakko-esque look masked his usually joyful expression, "I... Merm is right. Thank you... I'll play with them later. Now we must work for the betterment of all trolls!"

Turning around, he reached out to take Byakko's hand... Only to give it a slap away. A devious grin cracked over his face as he raced around Byakko, bee lining towards the main cavern, "Betcha can't catch me!" ALL work and no play made for a dull, dull mutant. Bounding in full speed, he looked over his shoulder to check on if Byakko or Zeffer were following. With the mess and the state of the meeting cavern, it wasn't a wise decision. Maneki slammed into a box of heavy books which caused both of his arms to fly forward dramatically. The balls flew from his hold at practically mach speed, turning from delightful toys to weapons of mass destruction in fractions of a second. If the wind hadn't been knocked out of his lungs, he might have been overjoyed and given chase.

Left to their own bouncy ways, the balls began to ransack the room, toppling candles, knocking over books and piles of papers, and emptying flasks and glasses of their liquids, if not shattering them. Heaven help those in their path of fun time annihilation.

The positives of pitching a silent mental hissyfit: somehow, somewhere the plights of one might be received by whatever elderitch gods dared to listen, and subsequently granted. This was one such time, Muerte would come to figure out soon enough, nose every so busied in his Featherbeasts and You! guidebook that he's only scoured for the umpteenth time. As far as the negatives went, well...

Nothing could really have prepared the doctor, really. Though he was on guard, it was more from sudden attack or intrusions of trolls and, he supposed in retrospect, this would count as an assault but that was completely besides the point.

For whatever rhyme or reason, excitement (if it could be called that) came in a full speed ricochet mach-5 barrage onto his work space, sending precarious syringes flying and glass flasks tumbling into the cavern floor. The look on his face was probably priceless anyway; Muerte's body jolted upwards, the book forgotten in a messy heap on his lap (and boy would he be sour about the bent pages), all but his dignity floating away in a whimsy wispy tendril.

The expression was quickly replaced with something much darker, much more angry and forthright; pissed. When he sent out a silent plea for something he did not mean for it to be toys disrupting the precarious set up he had in place. Immediately his eyes darted behind his thick glasses, set into a a lived glare.

It didn't take him long to spot the small child responsible.

Or at least, Muerte was certain he had to be responsible because who the ******** else would it be? Some kid wheezing from having the wind knocked out of him seemed awfully suspicious, and besides what the hell was a kid even doing here? For a moment he looked vexed before remembering that there were in fact children at the previous gathering, but he had to pause and wonder what place wrigglers even had in the Initiative. Perhaps it was one that found its way here from the mother grub? Where was its lusus then? Bah.

He didn't have time to speculate and conjecture. In a fury the greenblood had rose to his feet, book slammed in a hefty thud onto the desk. He had made his way over, already bending over to stare down at the tiny child, "And just what the absolute ******** do you think you're doing? Do you even have any inclination about the consequences of your vacuous actions, or is it second nature to act before you can even properly process the foolhardy think-pan-garbled-nonsense your underdeveloped intellect even comes up with?"

The doctor rose back up, straightened and stiff, sighing as he pushed his glasses back up onto his face. Of course he wouldn't, "You didn't understand a damn thing I even said." it was more of a statement rather than a question. This was a small child he was talking to after all. The irritation rolled off his back surprisingly quick, but Muerte would only insist that it was pointless to get worked up over trivial things (like small children). It would be a poor impression if he did berate literally every other affiliate of the Phoenix Initiative. Zeffer and Aprife were more accustomed to his criticism, but that sure didn't mean every other member was.

Oh well. He still wasn't planning on apologizing. The kid had it coming.

"Think a little harder next time." Was the vague attempt Muerte gave at cooling down, and though his body posture did relax he still looked somewhat exasperated with the entire ordeal. Seriously, he wasn't here to babysit, where was the kid's lusus? Or even any other associate of the Initiative? Anyone but him. Muerte Perist was not going to be responsible for some stupid ******** child.

The dusky passageways of the base were familiar in their similarly. Nothing particularly stood out as he stalked along, no movements save the occasional squeakbeast or the tumble of a small piece of rock from the wall. It should have been reassuring, but Aprife found himself on guard anyway, arms crossed, but one hand itching towards where he'd holstered his scourge.

Perhaps it was the solitude. He'd find his peace in company, he thought, changing directions. By now he could only assume that others had begun to gather; that thought found a rather amused grin slipping to his face. Just who would he find? It was a bit like a game.

The further he went, the greater the flickering of candles became, though not by much. It was around the corner he found the first signs of intelligent life settled behind a table with his nose buried in a book. The thought of calling out in greeting flashed across his think pan momentarily, but it was gone only seconds later when he realized his voice would never carry that far. The corners of his mouth tipped down ever so faintly at that, but now wasn't the time to get upset. Let's stay positive, Invasi. He'd have to close the distance instead, but he'd planned on doing that regardless.

Eyes on the prize, he nearly missed the gentle patter of something getting closer, something moving at an alarming rate. Only when it caught his attention in earnest did he stop, realizing it sounded quite a bit like footsteps, something relatively light, running perhaps... There simply wasn't enough time to completely gauge the situation before a tiny silhouette came barreling out of the darkness of the hallway, the dull light of the room washing over his face, a child.

Energetic, Aprife liked that, but then he smashed face first into the weighted box, launching his unintentional assault. Yet again there was no time, no time to judge or to wonder, there was only the sound of breaking glass and fluttering paper and chaos. Aprife's instincts shot him quickly into a crouch, but it was only fast enough to keep the ball that would have collided with his face from doing so. Instead it ricocheted off one of his broad horns at an awkward angle, warbling in the air before weakly hitting the wall and finding its way to the small of his back. It was a light tap, nothing painful.

He glanced down, his gaze found the projectile as it started to roll away. A bouncy ball... not at all what he'd expected, honestly, but it was just a kid after all. Heh, it made some sense.

Snagging it before it could get too far, he looked back up to a scene he honestly was expecting, but Muerte sure had booked it over there in a goddamn blink. Ah, he was berating the little man. Again, not surprising, but he had to sympathize with the kid a bit. The greenblood could be nothing if not hellishly longwinded.

"Hey, Muerte, you gonna be okay man?" Aprife had to raise his voice as much as he could manage, and it was uncomfortable, but he smiled through it. "Kid probably didn't mean it." He had joined them now, and Muerte seemed to be simmering down (if you could call it that). "I'm sure he'd be happy to help you clean up your uh," a hand motioned back at the table, "stuff."

Now his narrowed gaze was set on the child, his expression jovial, if not a touch judgmental. "Right, kid?"

Zeffer smirked at Maneki's excitement, even as Byakko quickly spoke out to curb their mischievous plans. He was tempted to argue, but undermining her word around the little mutantblood had also proved to be an unwise choice in the past, so he only laughed, and nodded. "You're right, we'll find some time to goof off later. Still a lotta crap to be moved around..." He sighed, and stretched again. It sure would be nice if a few more trolls turned up to contribute, because the work was dull, and slow going to boot.

Before he could get another word out, Maneki was darting away down the tunnel, and the grin returned to the blueblood's face. "Better run faster than that, little Man!!" He raced after the young troll, going slow on purpose to give the kid a head start. What happened next was better than anything he could have imagined...well, aside from Maneki hurting himself, anyway.

"OH ********>" A cackle exploded from Zeffer's throat as the sound of breaking glass met his ears. The balls had lost most of their speed by the time he came skidding in on Maneki's tail, just in time to see an infuriated Muerte giving him an agitated rebuking. Bristling slightly, he bounded over to defend the prostrate youngster.

"Ease the ******** off Tete! He's just a kid, and he didn't do it on purpose." He chimed in after Aprife, glancing over at the yellowblood and nodding. Zeffer was grinning, but the growl in his voice showed that he meant business. He reached down to help Maneki up, giving him a rough pat. He'd seen the little mutant take plenty worse spills than that, but who wanted to trip up and get yelled at by a sourpuss greenblood?

"I'll help clean up. s**t's trashed anyway." He snorted, eying the broken glass Akko was sure to want Maneki to steer clear from. It wasn't that he didn't want Maneki to live up to his mistakes, but he really hadn't meant to do anything wrong. With a huff, he shifted off to retrieve the broom he'd left in the tunnel they'd just come from.

Byakko's jaw fell even further when Maneki slapped her hand away, momentarily flabbergasted at his rejection. As the impish mutant galloped down the tunnel, she turned to shoot Zeffer a scowl that clearly read this is all your fault, a*****e. She was certain he was rubbing off on the kid. Resigning herself to trot behind the two as they raced ahead, Akko hung her head and sulked quietly, face hidden in shadow.

That was, until she heard Zeff shriek and the accompanying sounds of the ricocheting balls wreaking havoc. Akko immediately kicked up her pace to full throttle, nearly crashing into Zeffer's back as he skidded to a halt. Swerving around him to check the carnage, she smacked a palm over her face with a loud clap. It was every bit as bad as she had expected. Worse, even. Akko rubbed her temples with a thumb and her middle finger, aggressively trying to knead away the headache starting to build behind her eyelids. Perfect.

Remembering her panic, Byakko jolted and fell to her knees beside Maneki. "Are you hurt?" She demanded forcefully, although it came from a place of deep concern for his safety. Grabbing the mutantblood by the wrists, she roughly jerked him around, looking for any cuts or signs of blood. There didn't seem to be any- Akko let out a sigh of relief, shoulders sinking as she dropped the arm she had been inspecting. "You have to watch where you're going. You know why." She mumbled low enough that only he could hear. Despite her sharpness, Akko brushed her hand against his back reassuringly. "Just try and be more careful, okay?" Apparently she needed to lecture Maneki once again on the importance discretion had on their survival.

Satisfied that Maneki's secret was still safe, Akko turned to crane her neck up at the others. Rising slowly, she stood there, drinking in the damage Zeffer's gift had wrought to the cavern. She took a moment to purposefully stare at each of them with an air of severe austerity- first seethingly so at Muerte for his pretentious outburst at her child, then Zeffer for being a d**k and orchestrating this hot mess, and Aprife... well, that was also pretty much her way of saying hello. Byakko nodded in greeting at the yellowblood.

"Mhm. Accidents happen- no harm done. Right?" Akko glared back down at Muerte icily, daring him with her eyes to do anything other than agree. If he ever talked to Maneki like that again, she'd have to have a little chat with the good doctor. Even if he was pretty much right on the mark. Drifting over to stand in front of Maneki, she murmured a thank you as Zeffer passed her.

"You two been keeping busy, then?" Akko crossed her arms, glancing down to check on the mini mutant before turning her attention back to Aprife. "I hope you're enjoying all that new reading material."
