Gavivi wandered the plains, sniffing the air and tilting her head. Food near by, but other lions too. Maybe the vikings that Issy had heard something about. The girl was clever and fast, but no damn discipline in her. Lacked a proper leader, like Gavivi had when she was younger. She'd always had lions she could learn from, and she wasn't a very good teacher. Except hitting things.

At the very least she'd taught Isqesis to avoid getting hit from a young age. The girl was too small, frail, nothing like Gavivi was. Gavivi was a bit like a small elephant. Very little could stop her when she got moving. Issy wasn't big enough for that crap, and she was best when someone could tag her in for the kill.

Anything happened to Gavivi, the girl needed a crew. Someone to run with, watch her back. Make sure that she could still kill anything that moved and still be free.

Not that her daughter would hear anything about that.

Isqesis didn't like to think of herself as being much like her mother. What she did think was that they worked well, team-wise. Her mother hit things, and then she came around from behind and slit their throats. She didn't really get the need to find a pride or someone to take them in, but she wasn't exactly going to stand around moping and complaining.

That would be exceedingly dull. Much like their current hunt was.

"Momsey, come on, there's big game up there. We don't have to play nice, if those lions come after us then we can just kill them and take their stuff. I bet they have plenty of it." She liked that plan. The last group they'd killed, they'd had lots of nice things to eat.

Could have put up a bigger fight though. She liked winning, but with no challenge it wasn't nearly as much fun.

Ragnvard stretched with a low rumbling growl, enjoying the pleasent ache in his muscles. Straightening to his full, and rather impossing height, the Captain glanced back over one scarred shoulder at his lone companion. The other lion was busy skinning the bodies that lay scattered about the area. A small pack of hyenas had assumed two lone lions would be easy prey, but they had swiftly learned of their mistake the moment they tried to attack the two Stormborn.

It had been a pleasant diversion on what had otherwise been a fairly mundane viking. Ragnvard knew that they would be unable to come out this way reaving for a while now, as the local fauna had all become too nervy and fled at the first whiff of a lion. Well, all except those hyenas and they wouldn't have the chance to make the same mistake again.

Pausing to clean the last bit of blood from between his claws he glanced again at Samael. "Nearly done?" He asked, eyeing the black and grey male with some impatience.

Samael had been busy skinning the twelve hyena carcasses for the last few minutes. He didn't bother to ask for Ragnvard's help, beside the fact no Captain would easily accept the task, Ragnvard was so far above menial things like skinning their prizes it wasn't even worth wasting his breath. On the other paw, Captain Lucivar would have helped out, or done the lot himself while his reavers rested, but let it not be said that the two Captains were anything at all alike. Samael still wondered if he had done the right thing by switching bands, but he knew that Lucivar would never give him the excitment that ragnvard offered, nor would Ran ever hold him back from what Samael felt was his rightful position as one of the lead reavers. Lucivar already had those positions filled in his band but here with Ragnvard, Samael could get there first, could make himself indespencible to the red-coated captain.

And that was why he currently found himself hock deep in blood and guts, releaving the dead canines of their fur. A disgusting task he would have refused to do before, but now tackled without a grumble.

Eyes on the prize, Samael... He reminded himself.

Suddenly Ragnvard tensed and turned about, taking on that posture Samael had come to recognise as his attack-ready stance. Evidently they were no longer alone. And luckily for whom ever it was unwittingly drawing near them, both Vikings had already had a good and fulfilling battle to bleed off some of their more violent blood lust.

"Well, well, well, what have we here?" Issy asked, tilting head head and admiring the destruction around them. It was a small band of hyenas, true enough, but an average lion probably would have been taken down by them. She and her mother weren't average lions, and evidently neither were their new friends. "What do you think, mother?"

Gavivi growled, not saying much as she took in their surroundings, admiring what had been done. "Scavengers." Was her answer, evidently to the dead hyenas rather than the lions in front of them. Them, she acknowledged differently. The one male was around the same size she was, which she always respected... but a bit smaller. Which meant she could still crush his bones if he made trouble.

The other one, Isqesis could kill. If that was required, anyway. It might not be, if these were the groups she'd been looking for. Big. Strong. Could be them.

"Stormborn?" She inquired, cracking her neck and stepping around her daughter.

Issy rolled her eyes, making a disgusted noise, but she let her mother do as she liked. She'd have much rather just gotten in a fight, killed them, taken the hyena pelts and doing. The other two were already tired, it wouldn't even be hard.

But say what she would about her mother's intelligence, she had goals. This particular goal had been a long time coming, finding a new pride to watch their backs.

Ragnvard watched as the two strangers approached, golden eyes fixed on the bigger of the two. They looked enough alike that they were probably family, and he was pegging the bigger as the leader. Automatically he watched how they both moved, assessing their fighting potential. The big female would likely use brawn, but that smaller one.... she looked fast, and cunning. Without taking his eyes off them he stepped away from the worst of the blood and gore that soaked the sand, so at least if they proved hostile, he would have more stable ground under foot.

As the pair moved closer and seemed to be inspecting the carnage, Ragnvard raised a brow. It seemed they were not going to attack, and while a missed opportunity was always disappointing, he was intrigued that these two females would approach him with so little fear. What did they want? And why were they so brazen....

A faint smirk curled his lips as he watched them come slowly closer. Maybe they would make good recruits, or if not, strong thralls.... Knowing already that they would be accompanying him back to the pride, one way or another, he relaxed his stance, though was still ready in case they turned violent.

As expected, it was the bigger female to address him and he smirked widely, head tipping in agreement. "We are. Who is asking?"

Samael had noticed the two females, but since Ragnvard was focused on them, he simply continued with his work. The faster he finished skinning the bodies, the faster he could get rid of the smelly furrs by handing them over to the pride thralls for curing. Getting the pelts was one thing, but handling them after their wearer was dead? He'd be quite happy to never have to do such a thing again.

Sighing and grumbling he worked quickly, though always kept one eye on the two strangers. Ragnvard was more than capable of handling both females, even if one was a veritable giant. No Captain held his post based on size alone and Ran was one of the most vicious and skilled captains in the pride. At least if one went by reputation alone. Samael happened to know there were some Captains who's reps didn't match their skills, like Lucivar, a lion too humble for his own good. But either way, Ragnvard's own reputation was easily deserved and then some.

Finally finishing with the last pelt he shook off the worst of the gore before piling them up, clearly not concerned by the two females.

"Been looking for the toughest folk around. We met a group of lions who said we should avoid this area." Gavivi said, nodding her head back at her daughter, who grinned, grabbing furs from over her shoulder and tossing them to the ground. "We thought they should have thought a little harder to avoid us."

"They didn't." Issy said, shrugging and sizing up her opponent. Yeah, he looked strong. "Do they make all vikings as handsome as you two? If so we should have let them talk a little longer, momsey. I'd have been on board a lot faster." She grinned, licking her lips and blowing Ragnvard a kiss.

"Behave." Gavivi said, not looking over her shoulder at her daughter. She wouldn't take her eyes off lions that could be hostile. Hard to say one way or the other at this point if they'd try something like attacking while their backs were turned. In life or death situations, it wasn't something she disproved of. Issy tended to be incredibly good at it too.

"We wanted to know if your Stormborn were as tough as we were told. We're in the market for new friends. And a new boss."

"Our old boss turned out to be weaker than we'd hoped." Issy said, shrugging and slinging their furs back over her shoulder. "Not very stable, you see. We're all about the team." Or her mother was, but she was alright with going along with whatever. "Need to make sure the team is worth the effort."

As he listened to the pair of females talk, Ragnvard’s smirk grew wider. Could this get any better? Two clearly capable females looking for a strong warrior to lead them? Only a fool would turn that offer down, and Ragnvard was many things but a fool was certainly not one of them. As the smaller lioness displayed a bundle of pelts, Ragnvard couldn’t help but admire their viciousness. So they had waylaid a band of lions, got the information they required, then slaughters them all, from the looks of it. He needed these two in his warband.

Catching the younger’s lascivious wink, Ragnbard returned her look with his own, expression sly and intrigued as he gave her a slow once over in approval, impressed. Though he knew it would take more than words on both sides to seal this deal, he was willing to put in the energy to claim the pair. Addressing the daughter his voice rumbled with amusement. “I can’t vouch for the thralls, but no stormborn is weak or stunted. We are warriors, killers. Battle is our life.” Baring his fangs in a wicked grin he turned back to the elder.

“I assume you wish to test our strength for yourself.” He replied, pale gaze focused on the elder female with a calculating expression. “And likewise, we will have to test you for your suitability to join our ranks. Not just anyone is allowed to join us as an equal, most are taken as prizes against their will to serve us.” Head tilting he regarded both females for a long minute. “A duel. For each of you. If you win, or at the very least hold off my attacks, you are welcome to join us.” What he didn’t add, was that if they refused, he would be dragging them in as thralls.

As Ragnvard was keeping the two females occupied, Samael concentrated on the furs. Now they were stripped and (kind of) clean, he lashed them together with a bit of sinew ready to be slung across his back. Something he would only do once they were ready to head back to the pride. Now free of his grisley task he padded up to stand beside and a pace back from Ragnvard, dark eyes assessing the two females, having been following the conversation while he worked. Returning the younger’s flirtatious look he smirked. He certainly wouldn’t mind a piece of her, strong and proud and sly, and easy on the eyes too. He wondered if she would want to battle Ragnvard for her askorun, or himself.

Issy grinned, licking her lips, "Oh, momsey I like them. If they're awful, can I keep their eyeballs and wear them on a little string?" She tilted her head, "If they're good, then I'll see how they like to play."

"First we fight." Gavivi said, stepping around her daughter, giving the once-over to Ragnvard. "You test us, we test you. We lose, we lose, you lose, Issy can send what's left of you to the rest of your kind."

"Yes." Issy gave a quiet cheer from behind her mother.

"I'll take the big one." Gavivi said, circling him, in part showing up since she was twice as big as the average lioness, and well aware of that much. "You're about as big as my last boss." And he had lost. Badly.

Issy turned and pranced towards Samael, almost seeming to dance on her toes as she went, "Well, you know what they always say... little girls should listen to their mother." She tilted her head and winked at him. "Want to dance, handsome?"

Ragnvard grinned as the younger female spoke, his deep rumbling laugh filtering through. "You would have to best us first, before claiming parts of us." Smirking he turned his attention to the larger female. Dipping his head to her in a show of respect.

"Very well. It would be an honour to fight you." Watching her circle him he grinned. They would make excellent additions to his team, and he was confident enough in his ability to beat the older lioness. And his subordinates match with the daughter would be very interesting indeed... He had seen Samael sparring with other travers but this would be a good test of his prowess. Rogues fought with different rules and it would be a chance for Ragnvard to assess his newest reaver.

Turning his attention back to his assigned opponent he shifted into a battle ready stance. "Ready when you are."

Listening to his boss strike up a deal with the two females, Samael was content to focus on the younger. She would be an interesting and challenging match, for sure. He couldn't wait to see what she could do. He also hoped to impress her, for she seemed interested enough in him.. Grinning as she danced over he shook the deser dust from his coat and shifted backwards into a ready position.

"It would be an honour." He replied.
