Macaron was tired of eating sub par fish. Every restaurant he had visited that day either didn't serve fish, or didn't cook it properly for his tastes.
Idiots.
So Macaron in his infinite wisdom decided that who better to make good enough food for him than he himself? But alas, his fridge was full of take out boxes, but no fish. Not even a lonely trout.
But there was a pond! A pond with fish! Macaron procured himself a fishing rod and say down on the shore, casting out with a grumble.
"If someone would just make a decent filet, I wouldn't have to do this." he sighed, adjusting his chef hat.

Deciding to see if any of her fellow merphonies, or even other any other phonies, were at a common hang out near her home, she swam up the short stream to the pond, thinking of looking at what the fish and other wild life ate there. She had collected a few plants from this pond already, but now she was wondering if they had a special part of the ecosystem there. It was possible at least one of them was really important right?
As she swam into the pond, she saw what looked to be a full grown phony at the edge of the pond, holding some sort of stick. Hmmm, perhaps she could go up and ask them what they were doing with the stick, but she was starting to get shy just thinking about it.

Macaron felt a light tug at his fishing pole, and he leaned forward, looking into the water. There was a fish biting at the bait carefully, biding it's time. Macaron glared into the water, and the fish skittered away.He muttered under his breath, shaking the pole slightly and leaning back to wait.
Stupid fish and it's stupid face.

As she was looking at this pole, Holly came to notice a fish swimming toward some food on a sharp looking object. That didn't look safe to her, but she was sure the fish didn't know that. It was just a fish after all. As she looked closer at the sharp object, she saw a clear string that seemingly connected to the pole the phony on shore was using. Why were they using such a strange object?
First things first, warn the fish of the sharp object. Then gain the courage to go up to the shore to ask about the strange tool. It had to be dangerous, and in this area it was a bad thing to have here. It was a common hang out for other merphonies after all. She swam toward the sharp object and lightly spooked the fish away ", Shhh... turn around. It isn't safe this food."

Suddenly, there were no more fish. Macaron was at a loss, and reeled in his line. He then looked over the edge and saw a strange fish indeed, scaring away the other, more appetizing ones. THE NERVE! His blood started to boil, and he stomped a hoof in frustration.
"Oi!" he said loudly, putting his muzzle close to the water. "What do you think you're doing there!?"

As she continued to scare the fish away, trying to gain the courage to go to the shore to talk with the stranger, she heard the muttered out voice screaming from the shore, able to tell that it was at something in the water. Then it hit her who the phony was yelling at.... her!
Oh no! What was she to do?! Should she swim away scared or face the other? She didn't know! They didn't seem really happy with her at all! What did she do wrong? As she thought this all over in the few seconds she stayed still in the water, she decided to quickly hide in some of the tall plants at the bottom of the pond to calm down and think this all over.

Macaron stared into the clear water, glaring at the ripples. Whatever it was, it was gone. The chubby pegasus grumbled and grouched, then cast his line again, watching the tip of the pole for twitching.
"Here fishy fishy fishy.." he chattered, trying to remain still.

After she had gone away, it seemed the phony got quieter. Did they just want the water to be clear of her, or for her to get away from the sharp object? Now she was way too curious to back out. She would just have to overcome her shyness once again. This phony was disturbing the pond's safety, and that wasn't a good thing according to her.
With a deep breath, she made her way up to the surface slowly, popping her head out of the water and heading closer to the shore where the other phony was. Hopefully this would all go well, and she could stay brave.

The fish hadn't returned from the earlier disturbance, which angered the chef. His face began to settle into his usual grimace, until he saw something coming toward him.
Something distinctly Phony-like.
For one moment, he was at a loss for words.

Popping her head out of the water, she blushed some as she waved her tail. Okay, now she had to be brave. Now to ask her questions! ", Hello... Why did you yell at me? That sharp object doesn't look safe in this hang out for merphonies, so I scared the fish away so it wouldn't get hurt while I tried to figure out what to do about it."

Macaron stared at the fish tail, unable to connect it to the phony he was talking to. They couldn't be a part of the same body...right?
His brash nature came back when she questioned his methods. "I yelled because you're scaring away my potential meal!" he said loudly, unsure if she would hear him properly. Might be waterlogged after all.
"Merphonies? You mean there are more of you?" he asked, bewildered. "This is a good fishing spot! Why must you hang out here?"

She suddenly got quiet as he talked, trying to hide most of her head under the water besides her eyes. Had she caused him to lose his meal? That sharp this was used to get food? Fish? However that didn't mean it was right for him to fish here.
Her head popped back out of the water when he was done talking ", Well... there has to be safer ways right? Us merphonies come here because it is calm and we view it as safe. By fishing here... you put us in danger and the eco system here. There are other spots that are safer that you can fish."

Her little voice was quieter than his, which wasn't a surprise really. Most phonies were quieter than his, especially when he got mad. And he was starting to get angry.
"Now look her fishy friend, I'll not be bossed around by you. Why, you're a child! I'll kindly ask you to bugger off and leave me to my fishing. It's not as if you're friends are here now. And besides, it's everyone for themselves in this world." His accent was smooth, but his words were biting.

Her lips quivered some as he spoke rather harshly at her, not sure what to do ", But... but wouldn't this place start to be a better place if we began to care about each other in this cruel world you speak of? And who is to say a child can't be right about something?"

Macaron's eyes narrowed as she threw logic at him. Well, not really threw. More like gingerly placed before him. Little miss was standing up for her friends. Admirable.
"You are young yet, so I'll let the innocence take precedence. But why care about the fish? They aren't your friends; they can't even speak!"
