Zenobia let her claws sink into the earth crust and twisted the ground in a manner that she found most pleasing. It was still winter but the snow had abated chased away by two weeks of sunny days. With the melting of snow she could now let her claws enjoy the feel of earth underneath her claws. Zenobia was a gardener at heart and it felt unnatural to not be able to garden during the winter months.

The cold still lingered causing the smoke emitting from her mouth to look more like a plume of steam then its general wispy form. Zenobia had grown bored with the white expanse of snow and had spent most of her time marking the boundaries of her territory. Many trees were now graced with her claw marking around the middle of their trunk. Most soq grew fearful at the sight of a claw marked tree their instincts warning them that soq with paws and claws were dangerous.

Zenobia smirked and black vapor from her mouth puffed out. Few soq were foolish enough to roam through her territory. Those who had the intent to try to claim her land would realize how sharp her claws could be. While those soq who had innocently wandered into her territory might escape harm if they entertained her or flattered her. Perhaps if they ticked her whimsy bone they might even leave her territory with one of her prize pumpkins but only a few had managed that feat.

The eyes on Samael's shoulders stung with cold, even when closed. The winter had been long and lonely for him, the first one he had spent away from his family. It was for his own good, he knew; silent meditation had done him much good. He had not killed an innocent creature all winter. Sometimes his voices reasoned that it was because it was immoral to kill an animal, and sometimes his voices reasoned that the more animals he let live, the more there would be to catch come spring. On that front, at least, he knew which was right and which was wrong. Other things, though, were more dubious, like whether or not it was best to be awake at night or during the day, or whether or not he should have company.

Before long, Samael found himself in a part of the forest that baffled him. He had never seen its like before: white and red scars marked the trees where claws had drawn around them, or perhaps horns or antlers. Whatever had made them, they had obviously been purposefully put there. Samael's brows furrowed. It had been a long time since he had met another soquili, and his voices clamored in his head, and he could not tell them apart. You need company on your journey to join the two of us, don't you? the voice whispered, and it sounded the same as whichever the other one was that spoke next: You have traveled so far alone, why change it now?

Shaking out his mane - carefully, to avoid knocking his helm from his head - Samael decided to keep on ahead. If he met someone, maybe they could show him something about himself that he didn't know, and maybe he could learn something from them. If he met no one, then it did not matter, and he would keep going until he figured out what it was he wanted from his self-imposed solitude.

Taking a step past the border of scarred trees, Samael walked headlong into the heart of the territory.
