Madeira had never been the type of Soquili to sweat the small stuff, up to and including weather. Yes, there were certain elements of winter that were less desirable than others, but for the most part Maddie regarded winter with the practiced neutrality of a mare who simply didn't care. She had made it her life's mission to make the most of that life; to live every day as if it was her last, because you never knew when you might run into a Skinwalker or fall through the ice! A little macabre, but macabre with a purpose!
So today, even though the ground was snowy and the air was brisk, Maddie was in a good mood. She'd found a great little hollow in the side of a massive tree in which to spend the night; it had kept her out of the wind and the light snowfall while still allowing her to enjoy the scene. It had been quite beautiful, the light snow against the darkness of the forest. She had fallen asleep thinking how pretty it all was, and she had woken up with that same smile on her face.
She hadn't been sure what to expect when she'd entered the forest, but so far she'd been pleasantly surprised. There were so many trees her (duh!); she could play hide and seek, or run races while weaving through them! She could lie on the ground and try to make out patterns in the tree branches, or try to identify the noises made by forest creatures at night. Sure, it was a little creepy not knowing what was lurking out behind the next tree, but she couldn't deny that there was a delicious excitement in the unknown. She had no idea where she was going or what she was doing, but until she figured it out she was happy to amble along and enjoy the day.
In fact, there was really only one way the day could be improved, Maddie thought as she ambled along. The forest on her own was well and good, but just think how awesome it would be if she had someone to enjoy it with! Chase was much better with a partner, and hide and seek was so much more interesting with someone to hide FOR. And it was as if the spirits were on the same wavelength as her, because it wasn't five minutes later that she heard soft muttering noises. Coming to a stop, she cocked her head and listened intently for a few minutes; best to make sure there actually was someone there before speaking up and making a fool of herself, she thought with a giggle. But after a little listen, she was sure of it; there was someone else there!
"Helloooooo?" She called out in a merry, querying voice. Sure, she had no idea what sort of Soquili was out there, but at least their mumbling sounded pleasant!
