It was dark all around him but he wasn’t afraid.
It was merely plain and blank until the flurry of lights whirled around him!
Flickering to life in the darkness, he watched the stars fill it
with light, pattern and meaning.

They were like actors to his play, each twinkle a like a line, song
and vow all in one. They twirled by, telling stories he’d soon forget
and singing lullabies as he drifted.

Near the end, he smelt fragrance for the first time
and the starlight began to dim.

He cried out to them as first, struggling against his invisible binds.
But they hushed and reassured him.
There had been darkness once and they had come.
They would come to him again.

The kind starlight, stars bright and dim.
They would always belong to him,
as he to them.
