Yes, the paint looked bright, new, and even. But then... she really had a look at where it was she was living in. How many hours she'd spent cleaning it, keeping the shoreline free of washed up debris, ensuring the telegraph and telephone lines were clear and functioning...
She stopped to think. Is this really where I want to live for the rest of my life? What would I be doing if I wasn't taking care of the lighthouse?
Cast Aweigh stared long and hard at her home and decided that it'd be best to take at least one week where she walked to the main city and explored. She loved her lighthouse dearly, but if she was ever going to be able to supply it with newer materials, she'd have to get it faster by land than by sea. It often took weeks for word to reach her mother that new technology was needed and Cast had to rely on her own wits and decisions to improve on her home.
It needed extra room and she couldn't do all of it on her own. She'd need friends and at least a few connections from the main land. Cast Aweigh was the middle link that connected the land to the sea. She knew her duty, but she also knew that if she didn't get out every now and then, she'd lose any kind of real perspective.
She needed friendship and she needed kindness, but unless she went out and sought it for herself every now and then, she may never experience it. Cast Aweigh had to make everyone aware of who she was and where she was and in doing so she'd ensure the lighthouse would remain standing for a long, long time.
