The sky was brushed only with a few whispers of clouds over the dark canvas of the night sky. The full moon hung high overhead, illuminating the sea, the sands, and the shining trinkets of the gypsies down below. A few fires had been built up, mostly with the help of the goddess Muhali, and around them a few mumers prepared their songs, dances, and tales.

The borders were open. The patrons were on a strict stand-down order. Peace was the song of the night and his lady was the pride itself. She stood ready, waiting by the sea with open paws. The young gypsies were eager for what fresh blood might breeze through, eager for a taste of something exotic.

Shandor stood with his back to the flames. The warmth of the fires glowed off his back and along the back of his deep opal mane. He watched the dying fires of the sunset fade along the black horizon. His children were finally old enough to participate in the Mummer's ball. Little princes and his little princess, growing into their manes and their roles. Each as different as the other. What made one of them weak made another strong, together his family was quite a force to be reckoned with.

A smile tugged at his maw. Muhali would be along any moment now to officially open up the Mummer's ball. Fireheart would be along soon enough as well, the queen of the pride, and the social shepherd of the pride. She, like himself, had a few little ones ready to start little troupes of their own. With luck, there'd be several fat bellies months following the event.

He could see Wizard setting up for paw readings just by the cove, his back straight and a few found objects laying out on a threadbare strip of fabric. The dull-eyed lion dwarfed most lines and sat cloaked in a deep violet cloak, masking the scars around his mouth and the majority of his back and shoulders. He looked like a wise old shadow pulling away from the rocks.

Mikael was laying near him, warming his sides by the glow of the fire and casually watching as the pride gathered. The confident prince was the picture of gypsy pride. His chin was tilted just so, his hair brushed back away from his eyes, hanging over a headband that reflected that of his father. Coins shimmered from around a paw and from a string of gold around his neck. He controlled his expression perfectly, looking neither eager or bored. Perhaps calculating.

Firedog was making his way down the sands, yet another gypsy prince surveying his domain. His mother's easy gait and his father's strength reflected in the youth.

User ImageThey'd all certainly come a long way. The pride was peaceful, excited, happy. Muhali felt it was a reflection of what she felt; the peace she could feel swelling up inside her.

They'd all earned it, as far as she was concerned, though none more than the Gypsy king himself.

The small goddess circled the territory, flying a circle high, up above in the sky as she checked everything from her position; the fact the borders were open did not mean they would simply drop their guard. Far from it; the gypsies were still vigilant, even if they were not being aggressive about it. It took her a couple of moments to decide that everything was, in fact, well enough, and when she was convinced, she let out a roar from up above; a signal for her children to come out and join the adults. They'd hear her easily from her position, as would Shandor himself, no doubt.

That done, she finally swooped down from the sky and made a show of passing easily scant inches from several fires. Her final destination was the fire the Gypsy King sat in front of, and she flapped her large wings at both lion and fire, allowing the flames to woosh back in a rather lovely array of lights over the sand, "All is well," she said with a smile as she landed, and just as she said that, a couple of cubs began to show up from the depths of the jungle itself, following their mother.

Both Snip and Bee trotted up front to join their parents, neither speaking up, and both looking slightly uncomfortable with the situation for... entirely different reasons.

User ImageBinti lay to the side, watching the ordeal. After all, despite having once been a part of the pride, she was not a full member yet, and while she was fine with that, she did not want to put the spotlight on herself just yet. She'd never liked being the center of attention, and yet, despite her efforts, there were those that still looked at her with tilted head.

She smiled softly as she raised a paw, looking at her telling stripes; they knew her lineage. The stripes were a dead give away.

Still, her gaze tore away from her own raised paw so she could look around the place. Thanks to the fire burning, she was able to spot Firedog, to whom she grinned and winked at, the moment their eyes met. That done, her attention diverted onto the other members of the pride, each more strange and colorful than the previous one.

She was home.

User Image Behind his brother and sister, Puzzle peeked out, then looked almost pointedly up. No sky monsters here - Mom had scared them away! He frowned for a moment, then hurried out. The firelight danced on his blue pelt and dark blue stripes, part of the blend that he was of his parents in looks - His mother's blue and stripes, with a lot of her markings, and then his father's hair and face markings. The cub stopped, staring at the fires and... So many lions...

User Image She'd been anticipating this day for some time. When Safi'macho had learned about the Mummer's Ball, she'd seen it as an opportunity to test her brew. So when things began to get set up... Brew Mistress had set up her wares. Carefully-crafted bowls, made by rubbing rocks against tree branch chunks, sat lined up by a large turtle shell filled with... A strange liquid. It wasn't water, that was for sure, though it CONTAINED it. Before the last streaks of sunlight had set, she'd brought the brew out, the light glimmering purple like many of the fruits she'd used to make it. The brown lioness relaxed by it, a smile on her face, prepared for... Well, as much as she hoped to encounter.

The Mummer's Ball. It seemed as if it had taken an age and a half to get here. The pride was (mostly) at peace, the dreamers had returned and weren't causing a problem as she had feared, and everything was settling into place. That didn't mean Fireheart was at rest. No, it meant quite the opposite. As things tended to be around here, once things got quiet, something was bound to happen to stir things up. They had a goddess on their side now, yes, but there was only so much a god could do.

But for now, she could put on a smile and socialize with the happy gypsies and any that might wander in. This was a time for joy and romance and mystery, and those were three things gypsies always excelled at, no matter the surrounding turmoil. She nodded to Firedog as she passed where he stood before glancing towards Shandor and his brood. It was amusing to finally see him as a father.

"Your little shadows are growing, Riddle Mouth," she observed, watching them emerge from the woods once Muhali landed. "I'm almost surprised they all have tufted tails."

User Image

Brown eyes watched with curiosity from the woods as Kicheko observed the start of the party. She had been close to these lands once as a cub, when she and her siblings had been cubnapped. Well, almost had been. She had managed to avoid being dragged away, but just barely. Her whole life she'd been curious about the neighbors that were so mysterious, and now was the perfect time to explore. So far it seemed to be all gypsies, but Kicheko had never been a shy girl. She stepped out into the firelight and looked around, her wavy fur a clear give-away that she wasn't from this area of the sea shore. Her eyes were drawn to a lioness with lots of gourds and funny liquids, so she decided that was the best place to start with her introductions.

"Ooh! Those are fun looking," she said as she trotted towards Safi'macho, eyes locked on the fun assortment of brews. "Are they for drinking?"

Kicheko wasn't the only Bahari to poke her nose into the fun. Cetus had already been on Kizi lands prior to this in search of a better place to swim, and had even made a friend in the process. This Mummer's Ball had sounded interesting, even though there was no water to speak of in the area. Just fire. The dark lion seemed to melt from the shadows, his starry pelt and mane making him look more like a shadow than a lion. He sat quietly as opposed to his pride mate's forward actions, waiting to see how things unfolded.

User Image

Hiss joined her pridemates with a smile, having just woken up from a nap. She was still fairly new to the pride, not knowing many lions by name nor by face, and was eager to make a few friends tonight. Perhaps lions from the rouge lands, where she hailed from! Then she could learn about what was going on elsewhere. This pride was lovely, but it was very secluded, she was starting to learn. She did miss getting to meet so many lions out in the rouge lands, but the slightly spacy female was very satisfied with her home. She took a spot by the fire, far enough away from the royalty so as not to impose, but so she could still lounge in the warmth of the flames.

User Image

Also emerging on to the scene, colorful paws and makeshift brush stuck behind his ear, was Snickerdoodle. The little artist was amazed at the huge party, even though there weren't many lions here yet. He knew they were coming, though, and didn't want to miss out on anything. Who knew what kind of inspiration it would bring him! He looked around and spotted a few cubs by the leaders of the pride, as well as the goddess that was staying with them, and he grinned. His own father was a god as well, so he knew he'd have some friends here outside of his siblings to grow up with that would experience visions as well. His were confusing but very inspirational, allowing him to see lands he'd never been to before. So far there was nothing exciting that happened in them, but the pretty scenery wasn't anything to sniff at.

He approached the royal litter slowly, the smile still on his face. The three adult lions by them seemed to be fine talking to themselves, so he laid down beside the siblings without hesitation.

"Hello," he said to the group in general. "I don't think we've met yet! I'm Snickerdoodle."

Ahhh the Mummers Ball~

It was finally here! Nema has been prepping the other mummers for what had felt like ages, the dancing and singing she had done would leave blisters on her paws for months to come. But was it worth it?

Every single second.

She stood with a smile that could light up the night as she shifted across the beach, Muhali's roar beckoning her forward as if telling her it was time. She had come to appreciate these times where she could lead the mummers in their dances. But now that she had Muhali with her? She felt unstoppable, as though Muhali's wings were lifting her up to a new level of mummer-ing.

Was that a word? She didn't care, she was too excited that the ball was finally here! She smiled fondly to her fellow pride members as she passed them, her eyes smiling just as fondly as her maw. She just had that way about her.

She could hear the whispers coming from all around her, yet not a single lip in the crowd moved. She giggled aloud and looked behind her, nudging her head towards Muhali and the others. "C'mon then! Quit your dawdling and pick up the pace!" It was as though she gained a skip to her step as she walked from that point on. She was safe here, comfortable and accepted. She could be herself, and not a soul here would question her, and gods above was she grateful.

The closer she got to Muhali and Shandor the more skips her steps gained.

"Good day there Muhali, Shandor -" She paused, taking note of the lovely cubs at their paws. "And what lovely creatures do we have here?" She asked, her tail flicking happily back and forth as she bent before them to better investigate the little ones before her.

The fires each glinted across her eyes with a passion one couldn't put into words. The lioness' mouth hung agape in awe as she watched her Mother goddess and mentor soar through the sky, she was truly torn between which was the greater sight. The mighty roar she unleashed across the area left her with a shiver down her spine and she was giddy with each inch that Muhali came closer to the ground. She absolutely adored that goddess, for everything she was and everything she had done for Muhali. But more importantly, for what she had done for the pride.

Her paws padded impatiently up and down on the sand as she watched the King and goddess' cubs come padding out of the forest and onto the beach. She had heard many rumors about them, but now that she could see them - they were quite the sight! Ooohhhh! She just wanted to embrace them in the fire! To prove to Muhali just how blessed her children were to the pride, but she knew her mother goddess would never allow her to be so incautious with cubs. But oh, what a glorious ceremony it would make?!

Looking around her, she noted the many familiar faces of the pride she'd grown to call home. Many of whom she respected, and some of whom she was still uncertain of. Firedog had not been so trusting of her upon their last meeting, but she'd been here so long! Should she still be cautious of him? Inhaling a deep breath, she did her best to appear as calm as possible, hoping that by some divine power he would find it in himself to approve of her.

Snap was one of the last to exit the forest at the sound of his Mother's roar. He knew what it meant, she had taught them well. But she had also explained the importance of this event, and the idea behind it stirred him with many a scary thought. It was his first time seeing the pride, all of the lions, all of his pride! What if he did something silly, and they laughed at him? He had tried to brush the thought off many times, by pulling the attention away from himself. Playing with his brother Snip was an excellent source of mind numbingly fun play. His giant scarf was big enough to wrap the both of them and still have room for more to play with. But aside from him, he spent a lot of time drawing in the dirt. The strange words and numbers that came to him, sometimes they were schematics even! He drew them, hoping to fully understand their impact someday. But knowing, by days end the sand would wash them away.

Making his way to the center of the stage, he bumped shoulder with his brother playfully. A glint of play in his eye, and his paw placed mischievously atop his overgrown scarf. As he did so, he noticed the approach of the slightly older lion, his mane had already begun to bloom. Snap felt a bit of jealousy in his gut at not having his own yet. "I'm Snap!" He said proudly, but with a slight air of arrogance to it.
"And this is my brother Snip!"
Snap paused once more, looking to his brother and Mother for what to do next, "I like your name! Hey - what's that thing behind your ear?" Snap prided himself on being quite the intelligent lion. But when he found himself face to face with something new ... well ... he couldn't quite help himself.

Hana mingled half-heartedly with her fellow pride members, occasionally experiencing a brief flash of true enjoyment as the excitement of her fellow gypsies washed over her. For the most part, however, she remained apprehensive.
She and the other patrons were under strict orders not to stop or question any of the new lions entering the pride's lands. While Hana didn't mind the presence of the Bahari, she was nervous and suspicious of any rogues that might attend. As yet, she hadn't spotted any.
Ugh, this goes against all my training, all my instincts! This can't be safe.. But it must be. Riddle Mouth wouldn't authorize it otherwise. I just need to relax.
Hana shook out her pelt and forced it to lie flat, deciding that all she needed was someone fun to talk to. Nodding at those she passed as they greeted the dark princess, Hana easily slipped through the growing crowd in search of someone - anyone - who could prove a distraction from her worries.

At Muhali's roar, Dhoru turned to look up the beach toward the pride, his smile widening across his jaws. The orange-coated lion had been standing alone on the shore, his front paws just close enough for his toes to be tickled by the water as the waves ebbed and flowed.
He had been patiently awaiting the arrival of Paranoia, but he supposed she had decided not to come after all. He didn't blame her; there would be many, many lions in attendance, and a large chunk would be complete strangers.
"Plus, with the allowance of rogues into the celebration, the chance that father might attend is probably too great for her to handle"
Dhoru silently agreed with Hasi, and turned away from the ocean. Almost instantly he spotted Nema, her excitement plain in every movement, and his heart swelled with happiness. Bunching his muscles, he sprang forward and raced through the sand toward her, reaching her just as she greeted the Gypsy King and the returned goddess. He blinked slowly and bowed his head in greeting, then pushed his muzzle into the fur behind his mate's ear and whispered, "Your radiance shines brighter than the flames, my dear.", before turning his attention to the Gypsy King's answer to her question.

User Image

Paranoia paced outside her den, filled with... well, paranoia. She had spent the night preparing salves and tonics ahead of time, fully expecting to need them. Now, she was simply trying to work up the courage to go to the ball. The idea of so many strange lions terrified the black lioness, and that's before you add in the threat that her father might actually attend.
And so, she paced, knowing full well that she would now have to attend the party alone. She had waited far too long to be able to expect Dhoru to still be at their meeting place. Or had she? Even if she had, Paranoia figured that at least heading to the meeting place was better than staying outside her den - a first step, she'd call it. The fur on her spine spiked up in agitated fear, ears laid flat against her skull, the lioness with the contrasting coat padded quickly down to the ocean, trying to stay out of sight.

[OOC - I totally want someone to spot her and call out to her. PLEASE!]

User Image

Sha'uri was so excited, her white pelt fluffed out and her tail held high. She had never been outside of the pride's lands before, and now she was headed toward the neighboring pride for a ball!
The young lioness was essentially bouncing along the path to the Ki'Zaa pride lands, trotting and skipping in circles around Rytir - her escort and self-appointed "guard", of sorts. On this night, she couldn't be happier. In fact, she thought to say that.
"Rytir? I couldn't be happier right now. Are you excited? I'm really excited."
Her rambling cut off as she spotted the glow of fires up ahead. Aqua eyes widened to the size of condor eggs and her paws finally stopped as she paused in stunned elation.

Rytir smiled affectionately, calmly padding forward and ensuring to stay out of Sha'uri's path. The last thing they needed was an injury on the way to the celebration, but the composed male wouldn't dream of dampening the white lioness' spirits.
Rytir blinked slowly and allowed his smile to broaden at the odd-pelted lioness' question, but didn't bother to answer, knowing by her tone that she wasn't about to stop talking. In fact, when she did, the blue-and-white lion's ears pricked in concern and he turned his head to look at her.
As he realized what had caused the sudden silence, his smile returned and he nudged Sha'uri's shoulder gently.
"Come on. The Mummer's Ball awaits."

[OOC - Holy balls, that's a lot of lions.
Pawsie - did you want Vanellope to run into either Hana or Paranoia?]

Shandor ||
Shandor's chest swelled with pride as one by one his tiny little offspring made their way out into the light of the gypsy moon above and the bonfires below. It would be the first time the entire pride was able to get a look at the newest members of their nobility. It was the perfect night. The young princes and princesses would experience the true spirit of their pride, see young lovers make eyes at one another, listen to stories, watch dances conducted by the mummers, and of course dine on the best wares that their merchants could provide.

As Muhali joined him overseeing the pride, the gypsy king tossed a lock of mane from his dark eyes and jerked his chin towards the gathering. "A fine night for a festival. Spirits are high, the music is boiling, and in time we'll welcome new faces." He winked over to her. "And perhaps see a bloated belly or two by the end?"

Mikael ||
The eldest of the group rolled to his paws and loped after his siblings as they appeared. First he grabbed hold of Puzzle's ear for a friendly nibble and a rough tug. Despite their moments of hiding in fear from the great monster of the sky, the cub was back to his carefree and almost boastful ways. He'd not spoken of the event, not once, since it had happened.

Snap's greeting was met with another rough bump of his own shoulder. Riddle Sight tossed the mane from his eyes and ignored, pointedly, the other adults for now. "Mother is going to lead some of the dances tonight. I'm going to watch from right here. They're dancing for our entertainment, you know."

Firedog ||
The prince graced the former noble's wink with a coy smile and a none too subtle motion of his head, gently sweeping some of his firey mane from his eyes. He made a show out of shaking the rest of his mane out. Against the firelight it practically shone gold and danced under the moonlight. It was the first time he was old enough to make an impression on the ladies at the mummer's ball and he was going to take full advantage of it. Though...under the eyes of his mother it was a little strange. If he caught the eye of someone she didn't entirely approve of there could be words later...

He approached the noble's stage as his mother made her way there as well. Offering a gentle nudge to her shoulder, he passed her and walked just far enough to give her some privacy in her discussion with the gypsy king.

Shandor ||
As fireheart approached, the dark eyes of the gypsy king shifted and his maw cracked a warm smile. Her comment was met with a snort and a wide grin. "Strong genes I suppose." He bobbed his shoulders and glanced down to the little ones. "What do you think? A strong-sized litter. Not one of them was born deformed or dwarfed. A fine batch. I still have a way to catch up before I've come close to your family size."

He glanced to Muhali and nudged her with a shoulder. "Try-try again, right love?"

He glanced away once more as the second lead mummer, Ghost Whisper, made her approach. Ducking his head, he stepped to one side to scoot one of his little ones forward. "These would be the new princes and princesses of the pride. It's time for the rest of the pride to meet them."

Farce ||
The young adolescent was a little ways behind his brother. He was taking in the sights, breathing the air in deeply, and listening to every sound, every thread of conversation that he could happen upon. He paused as he spotted a shadow moving within one of the dens.

Narrowing his eyes, he tilted his head slightly. the shadow was moving... pacing? He saw a flash of white every now and then. Shaking his head, he stepped towards the mouth of the den and placed a paw on the stone outside. "Aren't ya' comin'? Yer one of th' mixers aren't cha? They'll be in a sore spot if all your sorts aren't down there fillin' the cocoanut shells right fast. C'mon."

Two purple-coated lions slowly made their way into the area surrounding the Mummer's Ball, the female staying behind the male. Her bright pink eyes watched all the activity up ahead, a slight snarl forming across her maw. The male in front of her had a smile on his face though, his green eyes lit up with excitement. He hadn't seen this much fun and games in a very long time. For that fact, neither of them had! The female was never one for fun though... And even stepping onto the grounds of these... Kizi... Was disgraceful. Still... She had been prideless for years now. They both had. At least the Kizi were blood relatives, regardless of their conflicting pasts.

"They don't seem all that bad, Mother. I don't know what you were so worried about. Look at all the fun they're having!"
"Quiet, Ibo'oya! We don't need them seeing us any sooner than I would like. Just be a good male and do what I tell you."
"Of course, Mother. I just can't wait to have some fun!"

The lioness rolled her eyes. What kind of son had she raised...? He was just like any other male... Dumb and only good for his coat colors. Slightly nudging his rump with her shoulder, he skipped a step and continued to walk towards all the commotion, a big and goofy grin plastered on his face.

He had made it. The fluffy white lion smiled, his dark gold eyes glinting as he looked about at all the lions all around. His vision about the Mummer's Ball had been spot on. He had made it back home just in time for it. He was never at home very much, instead roaming the beaches for things of interest. Once he had at the vision of the upcoming ball though, he knew he had to attend. After all, the Kizi and Bahari were neighbors! Taking gentle pads forward, he walked towards one of the fires, taking a seat as he looked up at the full moon. It was nice to be back close to the home beaches.

((OOC; holy shiz you guys are awesome *sob* look at you guys post ;_ wink )

User ImageMuhali allowed her wings to close and settle upon her back, but she didn't bother with hiding them from view; her pride mates knew her by now, and this way... well, strangers would probably think twice before brewing trouble if they knew a god was present.

Wings were a bit of a double edged blade though, and the goddess frowned as she scowled at them; while it could stop some from becoming a nuisance, it could also make others try to attack her for them. Sighing, she shook her head as she sat down by Shandor's side, watching all of her cubs make their entrances, one by one until they were staring rather glowy-eyed at the large bonfires.

She chuckled briefly as Fireheart spoke up, "Yes well," she said, "At least they don't have wings," she watched as the tiniest of the litter, Snip, ducked and hid himself from view by placing himself under her long, fluffy tail, and after a moment's thought, the goddess lifted it and urged him forward to play, "Go on now," she snorted as Shandor bumped her shoulder and mock-glared up at him, "Oooooh no. Not yet. Not remotely close. Nope. Unless you plan on giving birth to them, in which case I don't object. If you don't, however, I'm afraid you're going to have to give me a rest," she leaned against his side with a smile, "You might have to woo me again. Who knows."

User ImageThe tiny cub gave both his mother and his father a small, pleading look, but when the goddess arched a brow and made a small motion with her paw, he knew it was a lost battle; he'd have to mingle.

Had he not been already quite pale in color, Snip would have paled at the idea, but he was nothing if not obedient, and thus... he turned away from his parents to look around.

The first thing that caught his attention was another pale, albeit more brightly colored youth, whom had walked up to him just as his own brother, Snap, came up from behind, "Hi...." she said rather awkwardly, somehow managing to hide partially under his own scarf, sinking his head and body down until only his eyes peeked out from above the rim of the fabric. His own ear twitched as Snap spoke up, introducing himself and his almost-twin to Snickerdoodle, "I... w-what's a snickerdoodle...?" he asked quietly, peeking up slightly more over the fabric, "Is it a thing? Like... a Bee?" he motioned towards his dark pelted sister, whom glowered rather ominously at them from the side, "O-or is it like a snip? Or a snap? Which aren't... things?"

Maybe mingling wouldn't be so bad after all?

User ImageBee on the other hand, was not quite as sure as her little brother. As the boys mingled together, she wrinkled her nose and passed Mikael's side, brushing herself against him in an affectionate way, making it clear that despite her cold exterior, she was still quite warm within; it just too a bit to get past her defenses, "I'm more interested in the strangers..." she said, "It will be interesting to watch them. I like that more than the dancing," she frowned, "I don't like dancing and singing," she came to flop herself right on Shandor's left side, leaning her body against her father's with a huff and puff of air.

No one was going to catch HER being all silly!

It was right around then that Nema walked up to them, and the brave little girl lifted her head up to look at the other lead Mummer, puffing out her chest as best she could despite her small stature, "I'm Bee," she said, "I'm small, but I sting!" and this said, she opened her mouth to show her rather unimpressive teeth, offering the adults what she hoped was an good hiss and roar.

Unfortunately, her age made her look more like an adorable kitten than anything else.

User ImageBinti chuckled slightly when Firedog returned the gesture, and though she pondered staying where she was, unwilling to put the spotlight on herself... what good was a party if she didn't mingle with others?

After all, she had yet to speak with the gypsy king or queen, and the only one that knew whom she really was... was Firedog. She'd arrived just in time for the Mummer's ball, and thus, no one had really asked much of her at all, this being the only time of year that the gypsies opened their proverbial doors to anyone and everyone.

Still, she didn't doubt the keen king or queen hadn't already added 2+2, given her very distinctive markings. She thus, got up from her spot and slowly made her way towards Firedog, passing both Shandor and Fireheart's side with a smile and a small wink towards the goddess herself.

It was quite clear from Muhali's intake of air and snort that she recognized the old noble, but... she said nothing, and thus, Binti padded over to Firedog's side with ease, "S'this what you guys do now?" she looked around, the fire and lights reflecting in her eyes, "I love it... my old pride never did things like this. Much more formal, that lot. Very militaristic in a way. Rules, rules, rules!" she told him with a smile, "Was that your family?" she motioned towards the royals, "I saw you bump against the queen," a grin split her maw, "What does that make you, then? Prince Charming, I guess?"

There was too much noise.

Much too much noise.

Mwezi could not sleep. Granted, it was his own fault for picking a den that was too close to this insane pride of singers and dancers, but... bottom line still remain; he could not sleep. As such, and mostly because his low, irritated growling had begun to make both the little cheetah he'd picked up on his travels and Kiyo stir from their own slumber... the large white lion had gotten up, extracted himself from their tangle of limbs and had left the den he'd found for them earlier that evening.

He figured that since sleep was simply impossible, he'd go check out what all the god forsaken ruckus was about.

What he had not expected to see or find was... well, this, really. Mwezi had emerged from the jungle, fluff coiled around his large, imposing body, and had come face to face with large bonfires, singing lions, dancing lions and the great waters behind them all.

He did spot what looked like two more newcomers; probably mother and son, from the looks of their purple coats and the female's nagging, firm words. However, Mwezi was not a lion of many words, and thus, frowned and walked out into the open beach, looking around at all the commotion before his eyes landed on what looked to be a winged lion, "Goddess," he said in a slow, almost monotone voice.

Despite the fact he actually had a good head and mind over his shoulders, he'd been travelling for days and he'd had all his convictions and notions tossed out of the window in as few days. He was tired, he was sleepy, and he was not at his very best; the bags under his eyes and the mostly irritated look he had about him was enough to attest to that. Needless to say... Mwezi of the Moon was not particularly in his right mind at the current moment.

Which was why he easily stalked up to the royals (having absolutely no idea who or what they were) and then planted himself in front of the goddess. He easily dwarfed her in side, being much bigger than Shandor himself, "You," he said as he lowered his head and pressed hi head unnervingly close to the goddess' own, "You," he repeated.

Muhali, whom had been happily enjoying herself, suddenly found herself with a facefull of very irritated (or annoyed, rather), sleepy looking white lion, "Uhm," she said, looking up at him, quite baffled, "Excuse me?"

The lion narrowed his eyes at her, but from his body stance, it was clear no fight was about to break; he looked tired and not at all willing to shove his weight around to prove a point, "I wish to sleep," he told her in a low tone, "My own also wish to sleep. You will wake them up,"his tone remain even, dignified, albeit quite monotone, "Stop this ruckus. Immediately," there was a pause as the large lion lifted his head off of Muhali's and then frowned, as if looking for something withing his memory. Then he opened his mouth again, "Please," the word was added as an afterthought; Kiyo had told him it was, in fact, easier to get what one wanted if one was polite.

Polite apparently included tossing that word around a lot.

The goddess blinked, as if in a daze, and then slid her gaze over to both Shandor and Fireheart. That done, she disolved into peals of unadulterated laughter. Each time she snuck a peek at the large white lion, her laughter got louder and more uncontrolled.

In fact, once or twice it looked like the goddess had gotten herself under control, but... the moment her gaze slid back towards Mwezi, whom looked distinctly UNAMUSED, she broke out into laughter once more.

There's a couple of you I didn't directly tag because my lions did not interact with them. HOWEVER, you are free to interact with mine, and if you are in need of more play, I can probably toss more peeps out! I have Chi and a few others still mingling about.

Snickerdoodle

Snickerdoodle grinned as some of the cubs turned towards him to speak. There were two others that sort of sat off on their own, but that was fine with him. Not everyone enjoyed chatting, and even some of the cubs that had decided to humor him were a bit shy. He kept his head low so as not to alarm them with his size and kept a signature grin on his face.

"Snip and Snap...I like your names, too," he said with a little snicker before reaching up with a paw to knock his pain applier from behind his ear. "It's a...a thing I haven't named yet," he said with a little nod, pushing the stick forward. That's what it was, really. A stick with some crudely attached leaves around one end. The leaves were from one of the more resilient trees and the stick was a bit bendy, allowing him to apply paint to whatever canvas he had chosen nice and loosely without having to replace the leaves too often. "It helps me paint. My mom doesn't like when I get all stained," he added, wiggling the toes of his front paws. In reality his paws were white with a bit of purple on his toes, but at present they were red with some blue splotches here and there and around the base was completely purple.

The question from the more shy cub - Snip? Snap? No, Snap had asked him what his paint appler was - made him grin. "I don't think it's a thing," he said with a shake of his head. He glanced at the goddess not too far from where they stood and, with a wider smile, looked back at Snip. "My dad is a god too. The god of laughter. So I laugh a lot!" he said, laughing then to prove his point. "Not too loud though, more of a snicker...and I like to doodle." He nudged the little stick and leaves with his paw. "You know, draw. So I just mushed the two words together."

Unfortunately for him, he'd never know the deliciousness of a snickerdoodle cookie.

Fireheart

The little bump from Firedog got him a little flick of her tail in return, swatting his rump as he walked by. Her attention returned to Shandor and Muhali, a very tiny smile on her maw. She knew what it was like to bring cubs out for the pride to see. She had done it not long ago herself, even though it felt like an age.

"Gods forbid...you'd never be able to control them," she said in reply to Muhali's mention of wings. Gypsies with wings...it wouldn't be a bad idea, so long as cubs couldn't fly. Then maybe there could still be some sort of order and they could be that much more mysterious to the outlying lands.

"It's a very nice number, yes," she agreed, turning her gaze towards Shandor. "Just wait until they're a bit older and harder to keep track of. I doubt even she'll be able to keep tabs on them," Fireheart added, nodding towards Muhali. "The best of luck to you both."

The passing of another lioness would have caught Fireheart's attention, but not a moment later a massive white wall sat down in front of her, blocking her view of Muhali and Shandor alike. She blinked in surprise and took a step back to try to get a better look at what it was. A lion, of course, but...why was it so fluffy? She had to curb her reaction - attack - because tonight was a nice of open borders and friendliness...so long as no fights were started by the incoming lions.

Laughter brought her around to Muhali and Shandor's side of the lion, and she looked between the goddess and the exhausted male with a frown. What exactly was going on here? She hadn't heard a word of what he had said, his voice too soft and the party too loud, along with the sounds of the water behind them and the fire directly beside them.

"And...what exactly is going on?" she asked as Muhali nearly split her sides with laughter.

Hiss

The spotted lioness glanced to her side as an unfamiliar and rather wavy-furred lion sat beside her. Thanks to the fire, his coat appeared red and orange as the flames danced not too far behind them, but she could tell it wasn't his true coloring. She gave him a friendly smile, tail flicking back and forth in the sand.

"Good evening!" Hiss said happily. "Are you from the Bahari?" She had never seen a lion from the other pride, although she knew it existed. She had been told they were lions that spent most of the time by the water. The ocean was very pretty to look at for her, but she never went in. She wasn't that strong of a swimmer.

Cetus

Blending in with the dark wasn't lending itself to meeting lions, so Cetus decided to get up and speak to someone rather than waiting to be spoken to. He decided to go for a rather brightly colored lioness not far from where he had chosen to sit. She had bandaged paws but looked very happy despite the scars he could see beneath the cloth.

"Some party," he said with his easy smile. Those who knew him said his relaxed attitude was infectious, and indeed his chill tone of voice encouraged any he spoke to to take a break and slow down. "Are you part of the pride?" She didn't look to bear the tell-tale signs of a gypsy, but there were always rouges that joined. It was hard to tell tonight, though, since the borders were open.

Always late, always late. Vodnitvar was used to being a bit behind on things thanks to his sore leg, and he wasn't too torn up about being late to this Mummer's Ball. He wasn't really one for large gatherings of lions and making a fool of himself by trying to dance, but his mate and children were here, so he knew he'd be scolded later if he didn't attend. When he arrived he spotted Fireheart by the fire with the other royals, but he hung back. That was right in the center of the party and he didn't want that much attention drawn to himself.

Thankfully, a familiar female was pacing not too far away. He chuckled just a bit as he stood and lightly limped over to join his daughter. "Not one for parties either, I see?" he said as he sat down close to where Blood on the Water was standing. She took after himself and her mother so much that it was a wonder she had stayed in the pride at all. He knew there were other places she'd thrive with her structured way of thinking...but this was her home, and she wanted to protect it, just like Fireheart.

Her question unanswered, Kicheko decided to lion-watch for a bit, seeing who was coming and going. Perhaps she'd recognize a familiar face from her own pride and she could talk to them. The Gypsies were very nice, but sometimes they lived in their own little world.

Dhoru chuckled quietly at Riddle Mouth's comment about growing a family; his mirth only increased at Muhali's emphatic response. Nonetheless, he brushed his shoulder briefly against Nema's - he and his mate were actually trying to start a family of their own, so far without success. But the couple had ample time - an eternity, actually - and now wasn't the time to worry about that.
Besides, distraction presented itself in the form of two of Riddle Mouth and Muhali's small cubs, one overly shy and the other a little more than bold. A smirk spread across his chocolate-colored maw at how much Bee reminded him of his niece, Hana. Since Snip seemed more than okay speaking with his brother and Snickerdoodle, Dhoru's attention remained on the small, dark cub with the attitude.
Leaning down, he donned a sarcastic but playful grin and taunted, "Oh? I bet it would feel just like a bee sting, too." If Bee was anything like Hana, this could only lead to a play fight.

As the scents of strangers washed over her tongue, Hana's pelt only continued to spike. The underlying beacnh-scent that clung to the Bahari's coats distinguished them easily, and they caused no stress - in fact, she was rather eager to meet a few. But the few smells that could be nothing but rogues unnerved her against all her best efforts.
Her ears pricked forward and her claws slid out into the sand subconsciously as one such rogue pushed his way easily through the crowd toward the royals. His demeanor was just too much for her to bear and she padded swiftly after him. He would reach the royals first; if it turned out he was not hostile, there was enough distance for her to alter her stance and pretend she was simply coming to mingle. If he was hostile, there was not so much distance that she couldn't leap in before any damage was done.
She had not yet reached the group when Muhali burst into a fit of laughter. Hana smiled and sighed; the dark lioness had almost forgotten that Muhali was a goddess. She'd had nothing to worry about from the white lion, even if Muhali had been alone.
Her worries calmed - at least temporarily - the burgundy lioness turned her attention to scanning the growing crowd. It didn't take long for her to notice her father padding toward her. "I could do without allowing a bunch of strangers into our home", she replied with a smile, only half-joking. She chuckled as she continued, "To be honest, I'm a little surprised someone in our family hasn't started a fight yet."

[OOC - I'm looking for Hana'Hofu to breed with a Bahari during the meta. If anyone is interested, PM me, please! We can make it a fling, or an attempted (or even successful) long-distance relationship. <3]

Paranoia froze as she realized she'd been spotted. Her terror ebbed considerably as she registered the youthful tones in the voice that hailed her - the younger lions didn't frighten her (as much), and this male was no more than an adolescent. She turned to face him, golden eyes seeming to glow in the shadows, before slowly and cautiously emerging from her safety cover.
"I uh.. Yes, I'm an alchemist. I am coming - I mean, I was about to, I just.. Needed to be sure I had supplies in case of an emergency."
The black-and-white lioness knew that if she didn't seize this opportunity, she would never have the courage to leave her den. Taking a deep, steadying breath, she approached the young blue lion and offered a friendly - if tentative - smile and a very clumsy attempt at a shoulder bump.
As far as Paranoia knew, most of her pridemates were at least aware of her and her.. issues, and she hoped this small lion would have heard of her so he didn't take her awkwardness personally.

Rytir led the way into the celebration, pressing his body against Sha'uri's to gently guide her.
The white lioness accepted Rytir's assistance without fuss - possibly without even noticing - as the sights, scents and sounds around her began to envelope her mind. Aqua eyes took in every motion, watched flames and lions dance; ears as bright as the moon itself swiveled in every direction to focus on too many sounds - laughter, greetings, crackling flames; her jaws hung slightly open, allowing every smell to wash over her tongue. Everything was so beautiful, so new, and so interesting. She didn't know where to turn first!
The blue-caped male watched his friend with affectionate amusement, her amazement adding to his own excitement to be here. He led her slowly through the crowd, returning brief greetings, and toward an almost unoccupied fire. Rytir settled himself comfortably in the sand, stretching out to let the fire soak his belly fur, and silently watched Sha'uri as her wits caught up to her senses.

The purple lioness's bright pink eyes flashed as she watched a massive white lion with fur wrapped around his body take his stance upon the party. She knew he had seen her. Damn! Well... Better now than never she supposed. If she kept skulking around like she was, she was gonna be seen as 'acting out of place', and that would just get her into trouble that she really didn't care to be in. She was after all... Homeless...

Ibo'oya looked back to his mother and saw her demeanor had changed. Curious, he followed her gaze to the white lion that had shown up on the beach. He was so big! Bigger than most of the other male lions that were here! He was even towering over this blue, striped lioness. Oh man, she was so tiny! She even had wiiiiiings~! "Mother! Mother! Look! That lioness over there! The one that the big white lion with the fur draped over him is standing next to. She has wings!"

With her son's words, Aziza's ears fell to her skull. That lioness... Was no ordinary lioness... "Yes she does... Come, Ibo'oya. We must try to blend in with the crowd." The lioness then stood straight up and put a smile on. It was fake, but she didn't want to be... Recognized. She wasn't sure if anyone here would even know her face, but she took precautions just in case. After all, her pride did not have such good relations with the Kizi... Even if her pride was no more.

Turning his gaze from the bright moon up above, the white and gold accented lion looked to his side, seeing a striking purple coated lioness with peculiar spots. Her pelt almost looked like that of a snake. It was marvelous! "Oh! Good evening." He gave her a gentle smile, nodding his head. "I am from the Bahari, yes. You are from the Kizi I take it?" He shifted his rump slightly to more so face towards her. He didn't want to be rude after all. That would make him a bad party guest. "I'm sorry. I didn't take your spot, did I? If so, I don't mind moving."

Laughing Feathers saw two of her brothers here. Which made her very happy. Now she wouldn't feel all weird meeting new people. Go figure Snickerdoodle would be talking to the cubs with a goddess mother. He love talking about gods since there father was a god himself. She could care less if he was a god or not. To her daddy was daddy and daddy would give her anything she wanted that he could get his paws on. Which wasn't much because she never really ask for much but he big ole smile that he gave mommy. That what she love the most was the way daddy made mommy smile. It was the best thing in the world. But enough about them she wanted to see what Snickerdoodle and Farce (her older twin brother) was up too. So she walk other to them and put a paw on Snickerdoodle's face.

Iiro was happy, no more then happy he was what ever word that meant that you was more then happy! Yes that word, he was that word but it didn't matter! He was going to see his family today at what Frite call a "Mummer's ball" what ever that meant cus he sure as heck didn't know what it was but that didn't matter. He was going to this thing to see his family and support them in there ways. First thing first was to find them. So he look around and the first thing he saw was a yellow and white butt that could be one of two cubs of his Teshi or Issakio. So he walk trowed one of them not knowing which butt it was. When he got closer he could see that it was Issakio's butt because there was no black toes on his paws. He walk as quite as he could then let out a very loud laugh. Hoping that His little cubbins would know who was behind them by just laughing.

Tobias ||
The small flow of lions into the territory had piqued his interest. It had been a hard few months in the wild lands. His paws ached from the constant travel, his body had grown so lean he nearly looked sickly, and his mane had not grown in fully as he stepped the threshold between adolescence and adulthood. A scarred pelt the color of burnt sand and a flash of bright green mane licked with black made its way through the borders at the rear of yet another small group.

Ahead of him a pale cheetah with a cheeky grin conversed pleasantly with a dark purple and black lion with a sly demeanor and a sharp pair of eyes. He kept silent and while his companions had traveled with him for a few days, they knew little about him aside from some of his more…odd quirks. He slept in strange places, often curled up out of sight under the roots of an old tree, up in the branches, or curled inbetween a pair of boulders. He was a decent hunter but he never seemed hungry enough to take advantage of his kills. He’d nibble, then find a solitary place just within eyeshot of his party.

Zidane shrugged it off. Everyone had their secrets. Ravio was curious of course, but knew better than to press any lion with lightning behind their eyes.

Tobias slowed, hardly noticed by his companions as they continued on. Eventually he stopped and took a long, deep breath. Fire. Bodies. The crush of excitement, the sound of music in the distance, laughter, and dancing all hit him with a sharp wave of nostalgia. While this was not his homeland, a gypsy knew when he was in the company of his kin. There were dozens of troupes that called the savannah their home. They were divided only by the names they gave their troupes and the stories they told. Every gypsy craved the buffet of social activity that the mummer’s ball was offering that night. Moonlight overhead, flames lighting up the darkness, dancers moving to a good rhythm, and plenty of stories to tell.

He lifted his head and flicked his long tail. It wasn’t his troupe, but it was the first time he’d felt at home in months. With all the confidence of a noble, he approached the dancers near the flames.

Black Swan ||
She had been driving her father mad with questions for nearly an hour. What was the ball? Who would be there? Why did Muhali have wings? Could she find out how they worked? Could she have wings? Poor Renaissance had learned quickly that juggling a family and his work was a delicate and exhausting practice. Magpie had her wares and clients to attend to and he had his studies to conduct. The pride depended on his research and findings. He’d managed to improve on a healing salve using some fish oils extracted from a catch hauled in by the gypsies not long ago, but further progress was slow going. Between himself and his mate, the cubs were getting more than their fair share of education in the way of crafting and selling goods.

Swan, however, was eager to get out of the cave. It had taken every face she could muster to sway him into leaving but eventually Renaissance reluctantly joined the ball and found a place to survey the entire affair. He wasn’t a dancer or one to mingle, but that didn’t stop his daughter. Safe under her father’s gaze the little cub trotted around the dancers and through the forest of legs to where the royals stood. Another few litters had been born and that meant she would have someone her size to play with! To dance with! To talk with!

She brightened as she spotted the pale noble attempting to bury himself under the folds of his scarf. There were already a few cubs gathered, mingling with one another. Some were more confident than others. One of Riddle-mouth’s sons was trying his best to stand out by posturing himself beside his parents, his little chest thrown out and his chin tilted upwards. The only girl in the litter was sitting as elegant as a queen at her father’s side, looking down her nose at the rest of the cubs and the activities behind them.

Cygnus pranced right through the others, offering a warm smile to any that met her eye. Eventually she plopped her little backside behind Snip and touched the fabric of his scarf. “This. Is so pretty. Where’d you find it? Aren’t you supposed to wear it on your head? OH Snickerdoodle! What IS that!? It sounds like laughing. And drawing.” She looked to the nearest cub, a pale boy with purple streaks in his mane. “That’s not easy to do. I tried.”

Riddle Mouth ||
The gypsy king winked over to his mate and nudged her with a broad shoulder. “Oh come now. You couldn’t keep your paws off me. I have a way about me, you know. I could charm the wind if I had the right mind to do it.”

He noticed the gasp and the shift in Muhali’s composure. Raising a brow, he followed her gaze and leaned forward just slightly. One of Fireheart’s brood was standing quite comfortably with a pale female who, for all the world, looked like one of the nobles. Strange… most up and left when the insanity had left. Some were unable to tolerate the change in leadership, some were unhappy with losing their muses, and some he imagined were simply unable to handle the change in scenery. Sneering, he rolled his eyes and looked away.

“Seems we’re getting quite a crowd from the borders.” He observed, jerking his chin towards the Bahari and rouges making their way in.

Soon Muhali’s attention shifted to a pale male with a long half-mane and a long length of fur draped over his shoulder. He acknowledged him with a short duck of his chin. However, the male’s demand came sharp as a knife, poking a hole in the thin-skinned bubble of formality around the royal’s circle. He smirked. Snorted. Then broke into a wild, insane fit of laughter. Between himself and Muhali laughter practically spilled from the royal’s circle. Little Mikael glanced between the adults present, oblivious to just what had made them laugh.

“Oh ho ho, loves.” He glanced between Muhali and Fireheart. “Seems we have the lord of the seas before us! He wishes to sleep. Heaven and earth forbid he looses a wink of beauty rest.” He laughed again and shook his mane. “Off with you. Get a few drinks and find yourself a pair of pretty eyes. You’ll forget you ever slept.”

Black Swan ||
Hearing Snickerdoodle’s answer followed by the roar of laughter from the adults present she couldn’t help but laugh herself. “Oh I see! That’s why they’re laughing!”

Riddle Mouth ||
He wiped at his eye and shook his mane. “Gods couldn’t get me to laugh that hard if they cursed me to split my ribs open. “ He shared another laughing look with Muhali before turning to Fireheart. “It’s the fool of the festival come to entertain us. Lighten up, love.”

Firedog ||
The prince opened his mouth to reply but paused as his mother and ‘uncle’ broke into a wild laughter. He glanced between the gathering just a few yards away then rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the lovely former noble beside him. “This is what we do these days, yes. It’s actually my first Mummer’s ball. At least…that I could enjoy fully.” He smirked and bobbed a shoulder.

“See… we were having a problem shortly after the curse was lifted. Many left looking for their muses, those that remained were mostly closely-knit families. We had to bring some new blood in. Riddle-Mouth-“ He motioned to Shandor, “He decided to open our borders first to the Bahari to entice some new blood. The Bahari share our borders but they were hit hard by a storm recently. He decided this year to open the borders a little wider.”

He lowered his paw again. “New faces. It’s refreshing. New stories, new songs, new dances. Variety is the spice of life they say.”

Farce ||
“An emergency?” He raised a brow to the Paranoia and flicked his tail behind him. Whatever kind of an emergency could possibly happen at the Mummer’s ball? A shortage of drinks? A damp pile of fire wood? A bad singer perhaps- all of which were laughable. They’d create more chaos than three thunderstorms could possibly do. When the gypsies got bored, they invented their own fun. He wasn’t the most learned to the ways of his pride but even he knew that a gypsy with entertainment in his or her own paws could be disastrous.

“Well don’t drag your paws, there’s new faces out there!” He looked back to the flames. “New dances to learn, new faces to see- come one that’s enough to throw some caution to the wind.”

He perked and raised his ears. Just down the beach he could see the figures of his father and some of his siblings already joining the festivities. Leaning over, Farce nipped at Paranoia’s shoulder. “Come on, I need a dancing partner!”

If he was bothered by the ear tug, Puzzle didn't show it. Instead he bumped his shoulder to his brother's, a smile on his face. He, too, wasn't about to speak of that night with the sky monster. For now, there were other things going on, and his eyes gazed upon the world around them with wonder.

He looked back at Riddle Sight, grinning. "I can't wait to see the dances!" His ears flicked, before folding back as a look of horror crossed his face, before he whirled around and looked at his parents. "Mushy stuff!" Puzzle was a typical little boy - The thoughts of 'mushy stuff' grossed him out, and the only girls he presently found acceptable were his mother and sister. He didn't consider them girls, though - One was Mother, not Female, and the other was Sister... Also not Female.

Puzzle took the opportunity to run off, tugging on his older brother's ear. "Come on, Riddle Sight!" He didn't want to be anywhere NEAR his parents if they started to canoodle or anything!

The bright-eyed lioness would have been content to simply sit and peddle her wares... But the lions mingling had her... Anticipating. She got up, walking off to see who she could mingle WITH. Anybody'd do, really. Pale eyes scanned the growing crowd of lions, looking for somebody, anybody that popped out and gave physical askance of conversation. It was then that her gaze fell upon two lions, both purple and rather... BRIGHT. She was reminded of her mother by them, in a way... She let out a puff of breath, choosing them of everybody else, before walking over to them. "Hello, welcome... What brings you to the Kizingo'zaa and the Mummer's Ball?" She motioned with a white-tipped dark paw. "You should stay a while, regardless of your reasons for coming! There's food, there's brew, and there's friendly faces!"

The long ears meant there were no mistakes about what he was, nor did his size. Head low, long ears back, the sea-green lion followed the sounds and scents of festivities. There were some here he already knew, and he knew exactly what their presence meant.

What he'd not expected, as he stepped from the brush, was to see Muhali. Did he remember her from a past life...? He picked over his brain, trying to think. If he'd met her before, he couldn't remember. Funny how his memories of past lives worked... He felt like his children were blessed to avoid such a--

His thoughts were cut off as something crashed into his rear end and landed in the bushes at his feet, and he looked down. "You should be more careful where you are floating around."

User Image Sitting up in the bushes was a little lion who looked... A rather lot like the larger, except his colors were mostly a reversal. His coat was black like the larger lion's mane, while his own mane and tail tuft were the green of the larger lion's body. He shared the ridge of mane down his back and the long ears, but that was where similarities ended. Indeed, Datura had his mother's eye color and streaks of red in his mane, like a wonderful little blend of his mother and father. He blinked, then grinned up at his father. "Sorry! Got excited!" He then turned at the sound of laughing and talking and promptly popped up, running off in the sound's direction. "Oooh, what's over here?!"

Xavier's ears went back as he cringed, "Datura, get back 'ere!" He went after his son, skidding to a stop at the edge of the pools of light before he stepped out, looking around. Where had that boy gone off to NOW...?
