The Elimisha'sombea is a peaceful pride of leopards who are dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Whilst peaceful, the Elimisha do have a defence force - designed to protect. Some members of the defence sector believe there is knowledge and wisdom to be found in the physicality of defence.

The pride is divided up into 3 sectors, the Scholars, Defence and Common. The Common sector is made up of pride members who have taken neither the scholarly route or the defence calling. These members are by no means 'unintelligent' and many dabble in both major sectors, however they have not dedicated themselves to one of the sectors.

Appearance & Species

Appearance: The Elimisha have no preference for any particular pelt or designs. All physical appearances are welcomed.
Species: Only leopards are welcomed to be permenant members of the colony. Hybrids may stay until they are adolescent, but after this they must leave the forest. Many of the Elimisha's allies are willing to take in adolescent hybrids who cannot remain the forest.

Familiars

General Stance: Familairs are both welcomed and highly prized. Familiars are seen as useful additions to most pursuits, and such are highly valued. The familiars have their own ranking system, and have a small 'colony' within the Elimisha.
All familiars are welcomed, minus the canine familiars of Jackals and Maned Wolves.

Rogues

Rogues are the lifeblood of the colony. Giving new genetic variations and giving new ideas by joining their lands. Rogues - whether joining or simply visiting - are 100% welcomed! Leopards are welcomed more so than other species, simply because of the nature of the colony, but other species won't be chased out simply because they stumble in. They cannot stay within the colony, however.
Rogue leopards are always extended the offer to stay.

Religion

General Opinion: Many believe that knowledge is more their religion, however the Elimisha'sombea worship an assortment of gods. Their religion is more of a personal thing, dependent on whom you ask, rather than a pride-wide religion.
Religion may be an issue of contention between pride members; as the pride is based on knowledge individual religions, while respected, may be a topic of interest to many (potentially pushy) knowledge-seekers.

Marriage & Breeding

Mates: Most will take only one mate in a lifetime. It is seen as a union of two minds, two bodies, and is something that should be taken seriously.
However, multiple mates in a life-time is not considered terrible, just more unusual.
Multiple mates are considered unusual, but acceptable. Again, there should be many questions expected of those taking this lifestyle.

Flings / Rogue Breedings: Not unaccepted, but not encouraged either. Cubs are seen as the next generation of knowledge and strength, and so are celebrated no matter what form their parentage takes.

Adolescent Breedings: This is an area of concern, as most adolescents are only 'apprentices' and are therefore considered to be too inexperienced to be parents. However, as the pride does not have 'nannys' (other than the familiar rank), the raising of the cubs from an adolescent breeding will depend on the family situation.

History

There have always been, for as long as people could remember, leopards inhabiting the forest. The first scholar had no name, but encouraged those around him to seek answers, to question everything, and soon a small group had been formed. The members’ numbers would grow and shrink, depending on the season and those who had left for greater journeys. The colony was considered a safe haven for those with inquisitive minds.

The defence force came much later, when the forest came under attack of jealous rogues. The species of these rogues was never handed down in the stories, perhaps to prevent prejudice in the colony or perhaps because those who were present simply didn’t think to mention it. The defence force was made up of only the strongest members and it too grew it numbers as the inquisitive became curious to see just how far their bodies could be pushed in battle.

Years and years passed; the present council took their place as the powerful voices amongst the leopards. Everything was peaceful, until one of the Council’s daughters was injured and the colony was thrown into turmoil.

Current Events

1/06/2014 - Council Member Hu's daughter Ua has been injured by an unknown creature - there are rumours of a lion being involved. Rumours are flying about the incident.

Festivals & Ceremonies

Selecting the Council||
The Elimisha believe in equality. So much so that, anyone can apply to a vacant council position. However, there is some ceremony involved.

If the applicant is a Scholar, their test will be a mental one - the current council will construct a series of riddles and tests to ensure that the person applying is a strong thinker.

If the applicant is a part of the Defense force, their test will be that of physical strength. A member, or several members, of high ranking positions within the sector will battle the applicant - and it is only if they win most, or all, of their battles that they will be approved for a council spot. (See Battle System post for full details).

Birth||
Births are done on the ground, in a specific den which is guarded by wardens at the time of the birth. Whilst this is not a pride-wide celebration, it is tradition for the new mother to, once her cubs are safely delivered and cleaned, to carry them into her tree-top den. It is then the mother's decision whether she will return to one of the medic dens to raise them until they are able to climb, or whether she will raise them in the tree tops.

Feast of Peace||
literally, a feast of food designed to bring together the pride as one. It also allows the borders of the colony to open, the guards standing down and allowing rogues to get into the colony. A very anxious occasion for some, and a welcome one to others.

Location

The colony calls a large, dense forest home. The centre of their colony is in the middle of the forest, as far from the edges as possible on all sides so as to protect themselves. There are a multitude of pathways in and out of the colony's centre, however, and all members know how to get to the edge of the forest.

Whilst isolated, the colony is not reclusive.

Lay of the Land

Thick forest with heavy undergrowth in many areas. In some areas, the only way to get through is to take the trees. This makes the forest incredibly hard to navigate for some creatures, and as such, many have to rely on the leopards by means of transport, especially those familiars who can not climb trees.
