Hjortur was rubbing his head as he exited the palace, or perhaps escorted or was politely thrown out of would be more proper terms. He'd finished his check-in with his father, mostly a scolding and an attempt to have the boy return to the guards, before being told to leave once again. It was a wonder that they hadn't had the heart to cut him off altogether at this point, but there was something that kept him tied to his parents. And their privileges.
Yawning, he looked up at the surface above as he continued swimming. Well, that was his painful, responsible task for the day. Naturally, this meant that the rest of it was open for more meaningful tasks: dancing, singing, eating.
The usual.
It'd been a number of months since he'd seen his goddess last. Ah... How could he ever forget that simply divine night they'd spend together after Venus' party. It had been exquisite, the thing of dreams. Yet, none knew of it. His parents would certainly scold him further if they knew of his relations with the land pae'll.

As Hjortur walked, a ball of light began to play around his tail fin. He wasn't sure just when his mellon had introduced herself to him, nor when she had decided that his life might be worth interjecting herself into. Honestly, he didn't really mind her presence at all; she was rather fun to have around. "Oi, Terpsichore... Do you suppose my parents will ever come around?"
Almost jingling, the ball circled around his body until she was beside his ear. "Do you ever plan on becoming a guard~?"
"No... Never." The naiad's answer was almost an instinctive reflex by now.
"Then I doubt they'll ever care for for you than a sea slug~!" the ball giggled and floated away, fading as it did so.
Sighing, Hjortur turned around with a look of exasperation. "Come, now, why must you always be such a..." his voice trailed off as something just above him came into view, quickly sinking towards his face. "...a sea sponge?!" which then hit him prominently between the eyes. He'd been so distracted talking that he had been completely unaware of the danger behind him.

Pausing his dance, the naiad smiled as he heard a laugh! This one wasn't mad at him and laughed even! Oh oh oh! Rubbing his hands together, Chromis smiled. That just meant he had to do something else!
What was the question! Bringing his tail up, he braced his elbow on the fin as he pondered what he could do next. As his eyes dashed around, they landed on a fish swimming by and an idea formed.
A school of them swimming towards the unsuspecting naiad could be funny! Only, it was too big of a jump. Putting the idea aside for now, he continued to look around. Thats when he saw the lake kelp. Hitting one hand with the fist of the other, the idea light bulb went on. Shooting downward he went straight into a bed of underwater plants.
Gathering up as much as he could, he made a 'hat'. The dubious hat looked as much like a bunch of streamers tied around a sand dollar but he was proud of it.
Letting his creations go, he went into the plants himself spinning to gather plants like a fork spins to gather spaghetti. This was stealthy and ninja like after all.
Taking his prize back, he swam up until he was well above the Naiad who had unwittingly became a friend and playmate for the moment. Once he was pretty sure he had it right, he dropped the fashion accessory and watched it flutter and drop.

This time, rather than continue on his merry little way as Chromis might have suspected, something in the seaweed bush caught his eye. Stopping, he moved over to inspect it and found himself a cute little freshwater crab hiding between the leaves. It was so little and pink, probably a baby. As he turned his head, he caught sight of something else coming from the sky: a bushel of seaweed. Rather than laugh this time, however, his smile turned sour and his eyes scanned around for a pair of little brats hanging around.
One prank was fine. One he could handle. Multiple ones, however, was no longer just child's play. It was deliberate mocking and a stab at his own personal pride which, surprisingly enough, he had a reasonable amount of.

Hjortur had had enough of these little pranks which, he assumed, some children were playing on him. Maybe he didn't notice Chromis because his bias had him searching for tiny little bodies darting away. Oh, if he caught them...!
"Come, you mussn't get so angered by children. They are just children after all." the mellon softly said as it tried to calm him. "Remember... Light, fun, merriment. That is what you wish to experience and what you want to spread. If you fall for their provocation, you really will become disliked among the others."
Exhaling deeply, the naiad shook his head, rolled his shoulders, breathed in once more and sighed. She was right (as usual). "Thank you for talking sense into me; I could have gravely embarrassed myself."
Laughing, the mellon replied, "It is one of my duties I suppose. I wish for the same things you do, after all."
That's right, no use in getting angered at one who didn't know to do anything better than what they did. Surely, with time, they would outgrow their mischievous activities. By then though, of course, there would be others, but they too would once day grow up and see the childishness of their actions. Now calmed and his mood returned to normal, he turned to continue on his way.

Being trapped between the coral and his newest friend was an awesome opportunity, With a huge smile Chromis began to explain exactly what he was doing. For two minutes without any chance to being stopped, the overly excited Naiad began to tell the other all about the game.
While his mouth opened and closed at a hyper rate, not a sound came out. In his tail, he brought his arms together and pointed to them to the left, making some sort of point then they went to the right as he illustrated his story. He followed that by pointing at Hjortur. Following he pointed up, then made a swimming motion with his hands followed by a full body shaking silent laughter.
Seemingly taking a breath, he looked around as he was searching for something.Rocking his head side to side, he mulled over a word choice then went on talking. When he finally stopped, he told his name and tried to get Hjortur to do the same as he looked on expectantly.

That... was not the reaction Hjortur had been expecting. Just as he'd not been expecting to encounter a mute who, apparently, was not aware of this fact. Rather than 'interrupt' this 'explanation,' as that would have been rude, he just sort of floated there feeling rather awkward about everything.
Maybe he shouldn't have approached him, though he doubted that this other guy would have stopped otherwise.
Noting the pause in talking, he opened his mouth to comment before closing it again as the 'speech' continued. What a day this was turning out to be... Oh well, there were worse things that could happen, and at least this all appeared to have been done under good fun. This time, he waited a much longer time at the pause before deducing that the male was, indeed, finished with whatever it was that he was saying. Glancing to either side then back again, he internally shrugged before holding out his hand. "I am called Hjortur." he introduced himself. Now, he wasn't exactly sure if that was something appropriate to say at this time (actually, what would be appropriate to say if you didn't know how the conversation was going), but maybe it would work?
