Nwa Vév could not believe how far she'd gone off from her parents. She expected her father to be coming up behind her each time she glanced over her shoulder. This had happened enough times now that she was finally beginning to relax, to feel that his was okay.

She asked her father permission to hunt, and though usually her mothers and sisters came with her she'd been free to go it alone for once. She slowed her gait and came to a stop, her orange eyes scanning the lands. Not far off was a heard of gazelle, which would be a fine choice if she could find one sickly or old. Her father would probably prefer a young one, of course.

Her tail flicked and she glanced again over her shoulder. "I could do it..." She whispered to herself, eyes wide and expression pained. "Run off and ... and who could stop me?"

A lot of things could happen out here in the savannah. A lot of odd things.

And right now, perhaps the oddest thing in the entire mortal realm was the fact that this... WEIRD-looking lion was talking to the herd of gazelle. TALKING to them. A few had gathered around him, and were cocking their heads to one side, or chewing grass calmly, or looking in disbelief. But they all seemed very relaxed around him, as though he were a regular among them.

Upon closer listening, one could hear him rambling on. And it still made no sense.
"So you see, by calculating the position of the sun and counting off the number of days since the new moon, I've determined tonight's full moon will be really spectacular!" he stated matter-of-factly. The gazelle looked bored, and started pacing away.
"B-but, don't forget about the constellations!" he called to them. They turned their heads. "The Great Crab is going to make its first appearance this summer, and the Twin Jackals will be visible again, now that the rains have passed!" They immediately pranced back to him, 'ooh'ing and 'aah'ing.
