[PRP] The Hermit and the Hero (Amitola & Kaimana)

The lake was warmer today, the sun sparkling down from above. Spring is here, Ami thought, smiling as she looked up at the starburst of light that represented the sun when she was below the surface. The clouds were finally gone, and from the number of flower petals that danced atop the surface before sinking slowly to the bottom of the lake, everything was in bloom. It was all she could do to stop herself from twirling into dizziness - everything in her subterranean cave was aglitter with the light that shone down from the hole in the ceiling, all her treasures bright in the glow of day. Even she felt like she should be shining; the warmth soaked into her dark scales like her hooves sunk into the soft muck at the bottom of the lake.

Speaking of the bottom of the lake, she thought, smile becoming a slight frown, I haven't eaten yet. A rumble from her stomach accompanied the thought and she flexed her tail fin, propelling herself into the mouth of the cave to look down at her lake. It was vast, the way she imagined the open ocean must be - too wide to see the other side of it from here. But oceans didn't have walls like her lake did; they weren't safe, or so she told herself. Rivers were no better, always forcing her tiny body away from home... But she had never really, truly seen either.

Humming a little to herself - her daughter had given her that habit - Ami swam down to the lakebed, each movement sending a wash of warm water over her fins. The lakeweed was ever the same, of course. Another happily boring day in her piece of paradise, hoping that today would be the day that her daughter would bring her back another trinket for her cave. The walls were lined with bits and pieces of jewelry and shiny shells, her collection growing every month or so when Ilyrana came for a visit or a passerby dropped something in the water. Those were the good days: when somebody left something for her because they wouldn't bother to fish it out. Perhaps today would be one of those days... Mouth full of lakegrass, Ami began her rounds, starting at her side of the lake and wending her way over to the lake's source.

Kaimana was swimming happily down the river in which he lived, heading towards the ocean. He planned to stop in the lake for some food, before heading onward. He had plans to spend several days out in the ocean. He had no idea if he'd find anything but he did love the fun of it when he DID find something new and interesting.

It was such a nice day, too! The water felt good on his skin, and it was just warm enough that he didn't worry about stiffening up, but not so hot it made him want to slow down. As he thought that, he glanced up and grinned. There it was, the entrance to the lake! He put on a burst of speed, not worrying about the fact that he was using extra energy... After all, he'd be stopping to have a snack!

He got into the grass, and dove down to get a nice mouthful. As he got it in his teeth, he glanced up, seeing a flash of color coming towards him. He bobbed up, curiously, as he chewed.
