"Okay yes! TK! Bren! You should each take a stick. That would be very much helpful, I think."
Ulka nodded, handing each of his two companions one of his whooping sticks. Now they were all equipped! That would be very helpful. Before they set out, the bear paused, and turned back to his teammates.

"I, um. I am just going to tell you both that I am not very smart or not very strong. Sometimes I can do helpful things, but you should probably send someone smart with me!" He nodded along, offering a smile.

"But I mean, um. I am in fact a teddy bear. So lifting things will not be my strong suit."

With that, he took off, heading out of the room and into the hallway. Certainly, one of the others would follow him.

THE MIND'S TRUTH was etched across the wall in that same paint. Wrinkling his nose, Ulka stared at it thoughtfully for a moment. What could it mean?

"Well! Fortunately my head is full of stuffing and not a mind." ...Philosophical indeed. With that, the little bear boy pressed onwards, heading around the corner and tried to open the door to 104.

"What is this." Marzena hissed, staring down at the map the bear creature held out. She had absolutely no idea what was going on here. This was not Amityville. Peering out into the hallway proved that she had never seen these walls before, nor found them any bit familiar in the entire Academy.

The most pressing concern was that her seal skin was MISSING. GONE. NADA.

The selkie looked particularly murderous, though there was no sign of anything upon her that would reveal her as a selkie. Dark haired, pale skinned, black one-piece swimsuit-- it would be hard to fathom what exactly she was. "No one's going anywhere till someone explains. Where the ******** are we? Who took my stuff?!"

This door is locked, but there is a small window you can peek in to - it looks like a tiny office is inside, just big enough for one desk and a couple chairs. The glass is unbreakable.

TK stared blankly at the stick handed to him. If this was meant to be an improvised weapon, he already had a couple on him. He opened his mouth to say something, but found himself silent as he gave Ulka a long look. Even as the teddy bear exited, the undead found himself blankly staring at the boil with a very confident look. Very.

“As the Fracs explained, it appears we have been taken for a ‘social experiment.’ We are supposed to find our way out somehow.” He hardly appeared amused as he made air quotes before moving his gaze back to the map. “Mister Bren, how about you follow him?” Slowly, he began to exit the room as well. “Miss, how about you and I investigate another room together?” There was little time for Marz to respond before he had already entered into the hallway and tried to open the office door. Hopefully there would be something useful in it.

Marzena had stormed after the others into the hallway, seething as she grabbed the stick and the map handed to her. "What kind of social ******** experiment takes personal stuff?!" She was on the verge of screaming and tearing her hair out, but she had to compose herself. It wouldn't do to lose herself completely.

Besides, maybe it was somewhere in these other rooms. "Fine." She snapped, marching to a door they hadn't tried yet, and instead of trying the doorknob, she slammed her body right into the door to 101A.

slammed her body right into the door to 101A

The door didn't stand a chance...
...and it almost breaks as it swings open hard enough to throw it against the wall it was attached to. Once you calm down and stop abusing the property, the first thing you smell is the musty odour of old books. The room itself seems rather clean and kept, but nothing can mistake the scent of old book glue and weathered pages. Each wall is covered from floor to ceiling with very packed book shelves, covering a whole litter of subjects. In the middle of the room is a long table lined with rather comfortable looking chairs, though they look a little strange.

Search the bookshelves on the North Wall:
The North wall of shelves is broken up by a closed door. The majority of the books that you can see on these shelves involve meditation and the power of positive thinking...but it looks like someone may have snuck in books about planning for the worst case scenarios and, strangely enough, a bright pink fuzzy book on the Adventures of Princess Prettypress.

Search the bookshelves on the East Wall:
The East facing wall of shelves is broken up by the door from which you entered. It makes it a little easier to search, thankfully, but it doesn't seem to provide anything of interest. It's mostly Manga, Cartoons, and eccentric fiction. If you don't stay to read an old version of Oturan, you may as well just go and search elsewhere.

Search the bookshelves on the South Wall:
You decide to search the bookshelves on the South Wall. There is a ladder in place for those poor unfortunate short people, but otherwise nothing else stands out. It's a bookshelf.

Climb the ladder to reach the higher shelves:
You carefully climb the ladder, and hold on tight as you look through the various books on this shelf. It seems the shelves up here are dedicated to medical practices...and you're pretty sure there's a book there that has some blood splatter on it. Ugh.

Quote:

Searching the books:

  • Roll a 1d10.
1: You fall off of the ladder before you even start. Good job.
2: You're not sure what draws you to this book, and when you pick it up you're not really sure why it's even there. 1,001 uses for fingernails, the spine says. Inside is, literally, 1,001 things you can use finger nails for, from jewelry to art to picking scabs.
3: This book is thick and official looking. The cover reads Greys Anatomy. It's...a rather in depth anatomy book, complete with intricate drawings. There is some blood on various pages, as if someone had used it as a vague reference for...something...
4: A thin book catches your attention, and after pulling it free you understand why: it's an Anatomy colouring book. It even comes with three crayons: red, blue, and yellow! Perhaps you should put it back...
5: This plain black book catches your attention, and you pull it free to see a skull on the cover, with the words Forensic Autopsy written on it. Within is rather graphic depictions of autopsies, but the subjects don't seem very, ah, active about it...
6: You pull free a book that is white and blue, with Embalming: A Practice and Theory scrawled across it. Within it is, unsurprisingly, the practices and theories behind embalming remains. A lot of which seem to focus on the general health and upkeep of certain undead types.
7: The thing that draws you to this book is the bloody finger prints on the spine, as if someone had been holding it. You pull it free from the shelf and scan the title: Practical Anatomy. As you thumb through the pages you are treated to images of autopsied creatures, some of which are waving at the camera. The most disturbing part of the book is that, judging by the blood stains, it looks like someone was actually using this as a reference. There is a key taped on the very back page of the book: a little tag reads "B1".
8: It's the bright colour that attracts you to this book. The spine reads Psychiatry in motion - watching the brain at work!. It seems to be about opening the skulls on the undead to, quite literally, watch their brains at work. Inside isn't entirely special, but it seems a student used it, considering the amount of highlighter ink on each page.
9: A solid grey book boasts the title: Dead or Undead: Taking the work out of guessing!. Whoever was using this book as a reference in honest practice probably shouldn't be practising... But it's an interesting read, anyway.
10: A strangely green book titled Gastric Anatomy in Action catches your attention. It's a text and visual journey through the alimentary canal with a clear focus on the stomach and intestines. It shows various undead quite literally baring it all for the sake of science; some of them look pleased, others look entirely comfortable, and you're pretty sure one of the pictures depicts an actual dead creature...
  • If you choose to read a book, you are free to; there will just be no further prompts. It would simply be your character flipping through a medical book.
  • You may roll a grand total of three times before you decide to look elsewhere.
  • If you roll a [ 7 ] and found the key, please quote The Escaped so I can cross out that roll result. There is only one key, and once it's found it can not be found again!
  • The other items can be found multiple times.

Eventually, you get bored of this bookshelf - or perhaps you are disinterested in medical practices - and you move on to search another part of the room.

Search the lower, more manageable shelves:
It just looks like a lot of Reader's Digest books and several different Encyclopaedias. None of which seem entirely fruitful, and you decide to search elsewhere.

Search the bookshelves on the West Wall:
You decide to search the bookshelves on the South Wall. There is a ladder in place for those poor unfortunate short people, but otherwise nothing else stands out. It's a bookshelf.

Climb the ladder to reach the higher shelves:
The majority of these books are on statistics. None of these books seem helpful to you, and you shudder at the thought of math (unless you like math, in which case you shudder for a whole other reason). It may be best to climb back down the ladder slowly, before the books become sentient and start making you numbers.

Search the lower, more manageable shelves:
It seems safer to keep your feet on the ground, and so you opt to search the lower shelves. The books seem to be mostly about geography, and out of one of them falls a hopefully familiar piece of paper: the ??? map. You stoop to pick it up and turn it over to peek at the back; it's exactly like the one your group found in the chapel.

So you turn your attention to the book, and flip through the pages to try and figure out why the map would be hidden here as well. It seems to be a book on the 'dangerous' places to be, the ones with little to no pumpkins nearby, which makes dissipation and reformation not only slow, but incredibly risky. You turn one more page, and stop - something has been circled in the same red as the map:

Quote:

EMPTY ISLAND
This island, found in the south western stretch of Halloween just off the coast of the ///////, is likely the most dangerous place to be. The nearest nest of pumpkins is a six day trip away for the most experienced wanderers.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding Empty Island, though it mostly centred around the /////// Hospital, which started as a safe haven for the mentally unstable, but had changed into a research facility in the late ////'s. The Hospital had been ordered to close as external research proved the correlation between the lack of FEAR patches in the area and the decreasing lack of sanity the patients exhibited upon being committed. Rumours suggest that the Hospital never actually closed, and over the years fewer and fewer creatures attempted the trek to the Historical site due to the lack of sustainable FEAR in the area.

Several signs have been posted along the forest's edge, creating a boarder warning travellers not to go any further for their own safety.

The article becomes impossible to read: that thick red ink was scribbled over the rest of the words, obscuring it entirely from view. With this heavy information in mind, you replace the map in the book and the book on the shelf, and decide to investigate elsewhere...

Try to open the closed doors on the North wall:
It looks like it needs a key...

If you don't have the key:

You decide to try and open the doors you see on the north wall. You can hear muffled music through the ornate wooden doors, but every attempt to try and open it results in terrible failure. It simply won't open. You decide to search elsewhere.

The OOC!

This path is a Dead End, but it looks like you need a key! You are free to continue searching this room.

If you have the key:
You slide the key labelled '101' into the key hole and...

The OOC!
This option is only applicable to the person who first found this key!

Congratulations, You've unlocked a door! Please reply to the prompt above and quote The Escaped for further prompts!

Search the Table:
You decide to take a look at the table. At first, it simply looks like any old mahogany table that has been well kept for it's age. Then you realize something: the centre of the table doesn't match. As you inspect it further, you notice that the middle of the table is actually a different material all together, painted to match the actual wood. Someone had cut the original table in half and added a piece in the middle...

Leave it alone:
You decide it must not be important, and wander off to search elsewhere.

Investigate further:
The real question here is, why ruin a perfectly good table? You put your hands on it, and find it smooth to the touch. You knock on it lightly, and hear it echo back: is this middle piece...hollow?

Leave it alone:
You decide it must not be important. Obviously hollow-centred, out-of-place additions in the middle of old mahogany tables are normal where you come from, or perhaps you simply don't care, and instead choose to wander off and search elsewhere in the room.

Try to break it:
Clearly, this is out of place. You decide that the best way to find out what is in the table is to break it and find out. You look around the room, but don't see anything to use as a weapon against it...so it looks like you'll be using your hands.

The OOC!

You've decided to Hit the table until it breaks!

  • Your FEARS are still locked and your artifacts are missing or locked down.
  • You must use your normal dice (Y1: 2d6-6, Y2: 2d8-6, etc).
  • The table has 10 HP, and does 5 auto damage.

Once the table hits 0 HP:
Multiple people can attack the table, however the person who dealt the final blow (i.e. the person who made it's HP go to or past 0), will find something under their hand: It's a key, apparently, and has "101" written on it. Congrats! There must be a door nearby that you can use it on...

Once the table is broken and the key found, this table will just be a broken table and unsearchable. So sad.

Take a look at the chairs:
Something about these chairs is throwing you off. They look somewhat out of place in the room, but you can't really identify why. You investigate every single one of them before you come across one that makes you realize what it is: every single chair - with the exception of the one you are standing in front of - is covered in a layer of dust. They're the only dusty things in this whole room.

The only reason this one chair isn't dusty is because someone seems to have sat on it recently.

Having solved the riddle, you feel satisfied enough to leave it alone:
You decide to move on, and leave the weirdly sat in chair to its own devices, or whatever it is that chairs do. There are other things to search in the room, after all! So you go to do that instead.

You try to sit on any of the dusty chairs:
Maybe it'll make the dustless one feel a little less left out? But as you go to move a chair, you feel resistance. It's frozen in place, somehow; you check every other chair, and the same thing happens. It simply won't budge, and trying to climb over the arm rest to weasel your way into the chair as if it were a toddler's high chair just doesn't seem that appealing either.

Well, you can if you want, but there is very little space. You may as well just sit on the table.

You realize, as you step back, that the chairs won't move because they are - quite literally - nailed to the floor. The only exception is the dustless chair.

You decide to sit on the dustless chair, to see what the fuss was about:
You grab the chair and you sit in it. It's a chair. It does what chairs are supposed to do: support your weight, and let you sit. There is a small p***k of discomfort, but it disappears as you shift, so you simply pass it off as folded clothing or a muscle spasm. Now that you're sitting in it properly, you're surprised to find that it's rather cozy...and you realize then just how tired you really are. It hits you like a brick. You're exhausted, and you can't keep your eyes open anymore...

The moment you close your eyes, you find yourself in a dream: You're home again. You're surrounded by friends and family, and everyone is so happy that you're back. They missed you, they searched everywhere for you, and they couldn't be happier that you're back. Everything around you is right. It's familiar, it's comfortable. It's home...

The OOC!

You dream of the things you are missing, and the things you would never give up for the world. The things you want to go back home to, at any cost. What are they? Reply to this prompt in your post.

When you wake up, you are filled with an anxiety: You have to get home. You need to get home. Paranoia begins to set in, and whispers terrible things to you: Everyone trapped with you is plotting against you. They're all in on it. All of them are doing this just to get to you.

What you do after this prompt is up to you. You may leave the room entirely, or you may continue to investigate. The anxiety and paranoia you feel remain with you for at least two posts, but may last for as long as you want it to.

If you followed this prompt and choose to leave the room at any given time (even after exploring room 101), you may not enter it ever again; any attempts to do so will bring back the anxiety and the paranoia, so intense that you are physically incapable of crossing through the door frame.

Quote:

Welcome to the Library!

Both keys in this room has been FOUND - However, if you'd like your character learn about ???, please do follow the prompts anyway! This room will remain OPEN to you.

This is a self-driven room! You may complete this as a group (rp while you search) or as a solo. It can be broken down into as many posts as you need, so long as you remember to keep the code below at the top of each and every post! Be sure to follow the directions carefully, but be aware! There are a few choices that end with you leaving and being unable to return!

Please also put the following code at the top of your post while you post this room:

[ ROOM 101A ]

It must have been quite a sight.

A svelte ghoul dressed in only a swimsuit ramming her shoulder into a door and breaking it down with her rage. Marzena would have fallen through with her momentum if she hadn't thrown out her arms and steadied herself on the door frame.

It looked like a library.

"Well, I got one open." She called back to the other boils. They were still strangers to her, but they were stuck in this together, and the more help they had, the faster they would get out of here and hopefully find her goddamn skin.

She stepped into the room and decided to begin her search, starting with the table in the room. Running her fingers over the surface, she realized that something was strange about this. It was as though there was a part of it that didn't exactly match, even though on a surface glance, no one would have been the wiser.

Rapping her knuckles on it proved that her guess was right. It was hollow.

There was nothing around here that would serve as a proper weapon to break open the table.

Marzena decided the best option was to punch it.

Unfortunately, she came away with an aching fist as the table stood firm.

[ ROOM 101A ]

As the door leading from the chapel swung open, Bren's curiosity grabbed him in a vice and pulled him forward. It wasn't that he was no longer frightened, it was more than there had been measurable progress made that didn't involve Kleenex, and that brought with it a sliver of hope. He thanked Teddy for his new weapon without even thinking of trying to summon his usual ones, and followed the three students out of the room and into the hall.

He was about to ask Teddy to accompany him around the corner to see if 103 was any less locked than these other rooms when the very angry ghoul in the bathing suit barreled into a door further down the hall. Bren motioned to the bear instead and gave the skeletal undead a glance and a nod before entering 101A as well.

Despite their questionable circumstances, the boil felt immediately at ease in the old, musty library. His collection of books back home didn't begin to compare, and if he was going to be stuck in some mysterious building with its odd, painted signs, he was just glad to find a room like this. Maybe he could stay here instead of...

Bren spun on his heel at the sound of the selkie punching the table, eyes wide with momentary shock. He drew in a breath to ask her what she was doing, having missed her deduction that the thing was hollow, but instead he nodded and moved on to the south wall. Carry on, angry ghoul.

It only took him a moment to see that there was nothing of interest on any of the shelves he could reach, so he carefully started up the ladder, pulling a murky green book off of a nearby shelf when he was sufficiently stable. It was an intriguing tome, even a little... indecent, but now was not the time or place to be researching anatomy.

He placed the green book on its shelf and continued a couple of rungs up the ladder, pausing again to retrieve an important-looking volume. More anatomy. Bren flipped open the cover and leafed through the pages, taking note of some reddish-brown smears on some of them. Okay. That was blood. With a dry swallow the boil slid the book back into its spot and moved on.
