You find one now, but climbing up the roots and standing on your hindlegs to procure the perfect specimen is exhausting, and you're out of energy for the day. Try again tomorrow. Success!

Wasp had joined the crowd of gawkers that had accumulated around Never Idle's workshop. He had no idea what was going on, but it sure looked like fun, so when Never Idle dismissed the crowd with a begrudging requestto bring him some things, Wasp immediately hopped off to find something from the list.

But first, his attention was struck by a flowering magnolia. Given Away might like these, wouldn't she? he thought, stretching out to pull down a branch and retrieve a flower. Then two flowers. Then three...then more, until he'd managed to strip the poor tree of all the flowers he could reach. Wasp looked down at the pile of flowers and frowned. He'd need something to carry them home with. Fortunately, the tree had nice, big leaves, and he quickly pulled one down, loaded up the flowers, wrapped them up like a sling, and headed for home.

It was only when he was nearly home that he remembered Never Idle's request. Wasp groaned, then remembered the old guy had asked for big leaves, and he had one of those! As long as Never Idle doesn't mind getting it tomorrow, he thought, looking up at the setting sun.

A Kin has died here, perhaps this past winter. Its carcass has long since decayed to merely bones, and on a tree above its resting place someone has scrawled the symbol for a name, and a shape like a ripple in a still pool. Strangely, they have accompanied the marker with the symbol for a safe place.

Wasp set out nice and early (or "early" as it was) the next day. A ways up the path, he nodded to the scattered bones of some unknown kin who had died there. His mothers didn't know who it was, nor his sisters, but he was always careful to approach the bones with respect. "Gentle Ripple" was what he felt he ought to call it--her, he thought--when he'd first found the body, and the grave. Now it had been so long that she was just part of the scenery, and soon all that would be left of her were the carvings on the tree.

You find an injured mouse. You can either retrieve it as a snack for Never Idle and his cranes (Success!) or you can rescue it. If you rescue it, post a link in THIS THREAD to the post and a note that it's for the mouse, to be entered into a drawing for a mouse!

There was something different about the old bones today. Wasp craned his head to look, peering down at the abandoned skull. Was that...blood? He leaned closer, following the trail to what should have been an empty eye socket...and jumping at a distressed squeak emitted from the skull! He looked closer and spotted a small mouse curled up inside. Oh, he thought, I can bring it to Never Idle, but I can't just do that, can I? The poor thing might not survive the night, but Wasp just didn't feel comfortable killing and eating it like this, so he gently picked it up and laid it on his back.

Long, winding ribbons of paper birch bark litter the ground, carefully peeled down by some unknown kin or animal. They weren't anything he asked for, but they sure are pretty...

Finally, Wasp started down the trail once more, enjoying his late-morning jaunt while he scanned around for things to bring to Never Idle. The next thing he came upon was some good, choice birch bark. Ash always liked burning birch bark, so Wasp shrugged and piled some of it onto his leaf - careful, this time, not to grab too much. The flowers had gone over well, but half of them had ended up in the nightly bonfire.

You stumble on a friend and get distracted talking (either invite someone in for a few posts, or use one of your other Kin or an NPC).

Wasp had to admit, all this gathering was getting a little boring, after he'd got done piling things onto his leaf and rolled up in a nice tight bundle. Fortunately, he was pretty sure there was a nice-looking kin right over there. A potential new partner in crime? A sexy doe? A total party animal? All of the above? Oh, he always got so excited about making new friends! "Hey, you!" he shouted at the other kin, hurrying over in their direction. "What are yooooou up to?"

"Not much," the unsuspecting new friend replied on autopilot, before whipping his head over his shoulder to stare at Wasp with one pale eye. He spun on the spot and looked the acha up and down, incredulously taking in the strange cargo he carried. "What the heck are you up to?" the brown buck retorted with a snort. "You've got a lot of weird stuff, man. What's your name?"

"Oh, you know, this and that," Wasp said airily, instantly entering party-Acha mode, and grinned. "I'm Wasp, mate, and yourself?"

"Wild Sage," he replied, with a lopsided grin of his own. "This and that is right, yeesh. You making a nest for that mouse or something? I heard they like birch bark for bedding, though you've gotta shred it pretty fine and change it out often," he says very fast, leaning in as close as he could without scaring the mouse too much.

"Well, not exactly..." Wasp tilted his head. "The mouse I just found. You want it?"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 23, 2014 5:06 pm

"Wow, yes, that would be really cool - assuming you don't want it, I mean." The words spill out in a rush, which seems to be the only speed his mouth moves at. "I'd take good care of it, I promise."

"Well, chances are, if I brought it home someone would eat it, but I couldn't just leave it where I found it. You can take this bark, too. Your use sounds a lot better than my use. Uh, but I need the leaf!" Wasp unrolled his bundle, pushing bark off the leaf into a messy pile, and carefully set the mouse down next to it. "Truth is, one of those old wise fellows you Kimeti are so nuts about is building something big, and I'm helping to bring him what he needs!"
PostPosted: Wed Apr 23, 2014 5:30 pm

"Oh wow, thank you thank you thank you, oookaaay," Sage trails off, squinting at the bark and mouse and thinking. In the end, he kind of fumbles a few of the strips around the others and carries them that way, with the mouse somewhere in the middle of the loose bundle. He mutters something incomprehensible, but friendly, and trots off, carrying two new friends - one in his mouth, and one in his heart.

You locate a perfectly round, enormous boulder. It is exactly what Never Idle needs--but you're going to need help to uproot and move it. Help required. Success!

His new friend gone with another new friend, Wasp got back to the matter at hand. Walking through the swamp was a good deal easier with nothing but the large and, admittedly, slightly raggedy leaf to hinder him, and he quickly came across a perfectly serviceable boulder. He just as quickly discovered that Acha were not designed to move large rocks. After a couple minutes spent straining to move the boulder that yielded only an inch, Wasp thought he'd better find some help, so off he went in search of volunteers.

Wasp would find a totoma with a polite, but distant voice, no smiles, but not frowns either, something of serenity in his being. He had found simply a buck who was willing to help because it was his nature to work with others

Wolf Hunter followed Wasp back to the boulder, took a long look at it, found the best angle at which to push, and positioned his head plate against its side, horns cradling the edge of the boulder to keep it from shifting.
"Tell me when."

"Alright..." Wasp maneuvered himself into a suitably helpful position. "When!"

And so, with a bit of chatter (mostly from Wasp) and the occasional distraction (for Wasp), the two of them managed to bring the boulder to Never Idle's clearing. Wasp smiled cheerfully at Wolf Hunter before he wandered off to do whatever Totoma did. "If you ever need a fermented fruity drink, I owe you one, buddy."
