 13. You hear the sound of wings startled up when you enter this clearing, but there is no bird to be seen--only a strange shift in the light, as though a thin cloud had passed over the sun although the sky is clear.He'd started this quest with an open mind and heart, and an interest in finding out the mystery that Never Idle was presenting. The rush of wind, the sound of wings, and the feeling like a spirit had just passed him seemed an auspicious sign. He stalked on, hearing a heron's croak just beyond a line cypress trees.

8. You stumble on a hitherto-undisturbed patch of sticky red clay. Success!
He followed that croaking, and stepped right into the beginnings of a claybed, partially hidden in a stand of cattails. He looked over it, peering at the color, and was pleased with the crimson shade. Satisfied, he backtracked to a deep turtle pond and dug around until he found an empty turtle shell, then carried it back to the claybed.
Digging up the best clay and filling the shell was a messy job, but one he wasn't afraid of. His legs would be stained for a time, but it might look sinister.

Your nosy poking around has disturbed an angry old mare, who chases you off her land. You escape without incident.
The morning had been full of other tasks, but he'd set aside the afternoon to search again for Never Idle. Deciding to explore less familiar territory, he went up a ridge at the edge of his normal wandering area. This, however, proved a mistake. A mare with lank, old hair and thin, bony legs appeared not long after he started. She had aggressive red and yellow markings, and she'd just hunted up dinner. Not feeling up to sharing, she bellowed a challenge and charged him, sending him running off in a direction he'd never been before. Risky, but he'd rather that than her horns in his side.

20. You stumble on a friend and get distracted talking (either invite someone in for a few posts, or use one of your other Kin or an NPC).
Moon found a natural switchback, and picked his way down to something more familiar. His little valley was long and shallow, very lush. Its one big flaw was that it flooded easily in monsoon season.

Down in the valley, Luck was dozing happily atop a big rock, stretched out with his chin atop one hoof. When he heard Moon's familiar hoofbeats approach, he lifted his head, peeking one eye open. "Oooh. What're you doing?"

He detoured over to his mate, grinning. "Good afternoon. Just taking a stroll in an attempt to help Never Idle. He's got some grand quest going. Are you sunning lazily, you silly thing?"

"Alright." He nuzzled him and trotted off.

He passed through a clearing, and only remembered it was the same one from yesterday when he heard the shudder of wings and felt a shiver of wind pass him by. Perhaps it would be good luck again today.

29. A four-leafed clover probably isn't any use to Never Idle, but hey, maybe finding it will bring you good luck!
Which proved soon to be true: Nosing around in his favorite herb patch for sticks or feathers, he spotted a four-leafed clover. It made him think fondly of his love laying on the sunning stone, and he tucked it into his tail as a gift for later.

24. You find an ideal log. Unfortunately, rolling it free of the bracken it's trapped in and getting it back to the construction site will require some assistance! Help required. Success!
About midafternoon, though, he finally found something worthwhile. A log had washed downstream and lodged itself in a mudbed, and tangled in some vines. He tried to remove it himself, but soon realized in was futile. He trotted back towards home, retrieving some fresh components to augment their stores for dinner. Better to bring a present before asking for help.

Luck was still sleeping when Moon returned, but he lifted his head blearily. "Aaaaaahhh wha're you doin'..." He squinted one eye open at his mate again, still half-snoring.

He made a bleary sound, as if affronted that he actually had to wake up, but then shook his head until he was properly awake, with a yawn. "Yes," he replied after a moment. "Very. I didn't think you'd be back so soon..."
