LOYALTY  The lighthouse had become a familiar sight to the small filly. Each week, regular as clockwork, she trekked out here to this lonely shore and the lighthouse. It had begun innocently enough - one of Purl's teachers had mentioned that a certain phony was living out on her lonesome and needed new lessons. And Purl really was quite good at remembering things like art history - especially textiles. But this was coming to an end. Purl blinked and shook her head. Enough woolgathering. "Ok, so this is mainly what will be covered on the test, I think. Any questions or anything?" Two papers floated up and waved gently. She smiled excitedly. Purl loved anything involving fabric or textiles or art or any combination! And here was Cast Aweigh, who listened to her prattle on about such things.

 Cast Aweigh had studied between the days and the hours of working the lighthouse and Purl's weekly visits. Once a week, they'd been practicing and studying a new Art course involving textiles. She had done it so regularly now that she was even seeing weave patterns and different types of cloth in her sleep. "I don't know, Purl," Cast scratched at the side of her head. "Do you think one month's worth of this course is enough to get the full credit?" The Semblance of Unity THIS IS PERFECT. *o* Thank you!

Purl, never one to do anything by halves, leaned over the small table and stared dramatically into Cast's eyes. "If you're asking if you're ready, you are!" She leaned back, melodramatic moment over. She slid another page out from underneath a book. "Hmmmm" She tapped one hoof against her cheek and her tail swished behind her. Today, she had tied a stunning amount of bells to the ends and as a result, it was a bit noisy. "One month's time is the standard for this course, according to the Prof. If you're still not comfortable, we can extend it fr a few review sessions? There is a follow-up course, too, but he said not as many phonies end up taking it too. I could teach that one too, but I can't come out any more than once a week..." Her voice turned a little sheepish. Purl had kind of volunteered on a whim and while she enjoyed the weekly meetings, this lighthouse was a bit far.

"Oh, gosh, Purl," Cast's voice trailed off as she looked down at the books, the looms, and all the skeins of yarn, floss, flax, and silk that she got imported from her mother's journeys. "I just realized how much work you've had to do yourself just getting over here once a week. I owe it to you to ace this exam, don't I?"

Purl made a tsking sound and smiled widely. "It is a bit far... but I love teaching you. You''ve really picked up easily on stuff. Who knows, maybe. this is my purpose!" She whipped her head around, golden eyes narrowed at her waxy flank. Her waxy, blank flank. Purl sighed dramatically, the sound whistling out too loudly. "Guess not, huh." She glanced around the lighthouse. It was far away from the central hub of phonyland. In some ways, it must be nice to have something akin to a fortress of solitude, but.... "Do you ever get lonely out here, Cast?"

(( Sorry I took so long. ;o; I've got a sick bugbear. )) "It sure is nice for you to stick by me this whole step of the way, Purl," Cast nodded. "You've gone above and beyond. Maybe teaching and crafting really is your purpose! I couldn't've done it without your help." Cast laughed a little. "I think everyone who's ever visited me has asked if I ever get lonely. Well, yeah, a little. But it gives me a chance to meet people, oddly enough, whom I'd otherwise may have never met if I was all cooped up in a boarding school. I think with enough courses, I can fix up this place just a little bit more than my mother did! She says she's planning on opening up another lighthouse on the other side of the ocean and... well, I have plans on figuring out how to communicate with Mom easier." Cast looked at her current task. "The first thing to do is to pass this test!"

Purl tapped her chin while thinking, an admittedly silly habit she hadn't been able to shake. "You know, Cast, I think if it had been someone else I was teaching, I might have not been so regular in lessons!" She smiled and flicked her tail around. "You''re really hard-working! As for the test, just make sure you really study this and this. I'm glad you're really trying though; it makes me really proud." She giggled and pointed to a few papers - the bits most likely to be on that test. "I don't think I could ever go all the way across the ocean... It seems scary." A thought suddenly struck her and she glanced up at the clock. "Oh no, it'salmost time for me to go!"Syrcaid D: I hope they feel better soon!

"Oooh, I'm going to miss you," Cast hugged Purl. "You will write to me, won't you? I'll send you a message as soon as I get my results back! It's been so much fun learning with a partner. I know you'll go on and do some really great things with your skills, Purl." It was a nice feeling to have a friend who, despite having to sacrifice a lot, would stick by you to help you achieve your goals. Cast could only hope she could help other people in need the same way some day. "I wish there was something I could help you with, in return."

Purl hugged Cast back warmly. "You don't have to miss me! We can always write each other for sure and maybe," She tucked her tail neatly around her hooves. "Maybe I can still come visit!" It honestly kind of surprised Purl that she wanted to visit. It was salty, it was humid, it was honestly a place where one got a little dirty or a little frizzy. But she guessed this is what friendship meant. It meant wanting to see someone even if it was uncomfortable for Purl. She smilled and if she had toes, she would've wiggled them in happiness. "You seem like you have your life set, Cast - I'm a little jealous!" But Purl giggled, and there was no malice behind her words. She admired Cast, in that way, for her decisive manner. "You know what would help me the most? If you promised to stay my friend. That's all I need." That and maybe a good, long conditioning treatment for her hair. Syrcaid WOW I am so sorry I took so long!

"Of course, matey," Cast laughed. "I'll be your friend for as long as the sea holds its salt. A captain never forgets her crew and a sailor worth her salt never forgets a fellow shipmate. That's what my mom always tells me. Maybe one day I can get someone to mind the lighthouse for me and I can visit the city from time to time to see you!" Cast was already making plans in her head for so many things, including visiting the people who had helped her get this far. She'd never forget any of them for as long as she lived. The Semblance of Unity I can finally think straight enough to post! XDD Do you think this RP is long enough for it to qualify?
