Candy flitted and fretted over the bakery display, wiping down the front glass just one more time. She wanted it to be prefect because Cherpumple was coming for a visit! She stared at the glass from every angle until she was satisfied that every hoof and nose print from foals was gone, then tossed the towel in the kitchen. She took this opportunity to do some spring cleaning; the tables had a new-looking sheen on them, and the front of the counter was coated in the bright white of fresh paint. Overall, the place looked nice, and she smiled to herself, once again amazed at the fact that she actually owned this place.
Finally, she went behind the counter where a neat pile of papers was awaiting her eyes. She scanned the documents, giving herself something to do until the stallion arrived.

"Yoohoo~" Cherpumple singsonged, a picnic basket balanced on his head of thick curls. "Anyone here?" Cherpumple invited himself into the bakery and had himself a look around.

Candy heard him before she saw him, and looked up from her work with a smile. He was balancing a basket on his head.
"Hi there!" she said, putting the papers underneath the counter and coming over to greet him. "It's good to see you again!"

"Golly, it's done up right purdy in here, Miss Candy," Cherpumple smiled at her, letting his eyes close with mirth for a moment. "I've brought our lunch! Hope ya like hoagies and salad!" He took the moment to admire the way her shop was so organized and tidy.

"Well thank you!" She said, grinning widely. "I was hoping you would like it!" She eyed the basket, and said "I do like both of those things. Great minds think alike I guess!" She giggled, a littler nervous.

"Where wouldja like to go to eat our lunch?" Cherpumple looked at her with enthusiasm. "I don't mind where we go so long as nothing tries to steal our food."

"How about we go outside? There is a bit of grass outside the shop that we can sit on!" She opened the door to let the pegasus out, flipping the 'Open' sign that hung on the door to 'Closed'. If anyone came by, she'd be close enough that she could tell them to come back later.
"I can't imagine anything trying to take our food. That would be quite rude!"

"Welp, you know, I once took my son out to the beach for a picnic," he began, opening the door for the lady. "And wouldn't you know it? A whole flock of hungry seagulls came down on us and took all our sandwiches!"

Candy listened to the story, eyes wide as she walked by him. "That's insane! A whole flock?" She searched the skies above them, which were cloudless and thankfully bird-less. "Well here's hoping that they don't come looking for another meal!"
She sat on the grass, saying "That's right! I forgot you mentioned having a son! That must be nice."

"Oh, he and I may have a lot of different hobbies and interests, but one thing we both share is a love for good food and good company," Cherpumple sat down and started opening the basket. "Do you like fizzy drinks? I've brought a fizzy lemonade!"

Why, this stallion was after her..well, not her heart, but hers stomach!
"I like anything with lemon in it!" Candy said, taking a fizzy lemonade. "It's nice to have someone that shares the same interests with you. Then you can never be lonely!" It was kinda like her and Latte, though they were friends, not family.
"So do you own your own store?" Candy asked, leaning backwards. "Or are you in business with someone else?"

"Oooh, yes," Cherpumple nodded, pulling out a checked tablecloth to sit on. "I run a pastry shop! I make cakes, pies, biscuits, doughnuts... even pizza dough people can take home frozen to use later! Sandwich bread, toasts for dunking, coffee cakes... all sorts of bready things, really!" Cherpumple handed her a hoagie wrapped in pretty wax paper and sealed with a sandwich shaped sticker. "Everyone eats, so you get to meet all kinds of people from all walks of life."

Candy moved her seating to the blanket after he laid it out. Cherpumple had thought of everything!
"Wow, you make a lot of different things! I like the idea of the frozen pizza dough. I may have to stop by and pick some up!" She was already thinking of things she could put on said pizza.
She accepted the sandwich with a smile and unwrapped it. The first thing she smelled was bread. It was a lovely smell that made her think of cozy cottages and kitchens trimmed with wood. Like in fairy tales!
"This smells amazing." she remarked, taking a bite. After chewing thoughtfully, she swallowed and exclaimed "And it tastes even better! You sir, are quite the sandwich artist!"
"I know what you mean about meeting lots of people. All kinds of folks come through my shop, though the vast majority are foals. Why, just last week I had one that fancied himself a pirate come through!"

"Wow, were they really pirates?" Cherpumple unwrapped his hoagie and took a bite. "Mmm, I brought mustard and other things, too! All prepared!" There little bottles of mustard, ketchup, mayo, and pickles in the basket. He enjoyed offering people plenty of options.

"I really think they were!" Candy said, picking up the mustard and adding some to the top of her sandwich. "I mean, the last one that came in said that he lived on a ship and he was on leave to get something sweet." She thought back to Treasure Hunter, and the encounter that unfolded.
"I'm not sure if they are siblings or just shipmates, but he was wearing a pirate-y scarf. And one other had a bandanna on her head, and one other had an earring!" She took another bite of her sandwich, and then a drink of her fizzy lemonade.
