The Lady had fallen just out of Hanna's reach during the collision. She scrambled toward it, but was yanked backward quickly again by Cami. Wheeling around, Hanna launched herself at the other trainee, attempting to lock her arms and failing at it. Instead, with each wiggle and push from the other girl, Hanna felt herself losing her grip.

Yeah, they were wrestling.

She dug her nails into the grass for leverage and attempted to climb up on top of Cami, straddling her and aiming a punch at her chin. One bucking motion and she was off her again and on to her back and -- much to Hanna's dismay -- she was losing again.

Wrestling wasn't something new to Cami -- she had siblings. Ones who were close enough in age that wrestling for the television remote, for the last doughnut, to get out of doing the dishes, was all a common occurrence. Only she'd always been a bit more serious about hurting her siblings, giving her time to dart away while they limped, than she was about hurting Hanna. If she could hurt Hanna. She wasn't still sure it wasn't just a property of the weapon that was keeping them from getting seriously injured, rather than something that covered them on a whole.

Far be it from Mixi to throw the first punch.

Scrabbling for Kidana she was luckier in that 1) her weapon's edge was not a blade and 2) Ki was large. Slim but at least as tall as Cami herself was. It was a longbow, after all. Turning immediately she nocked another arrow and let it fly straight towards the ground where she'd tossed Hanna. It would be hard to dodge from that angle...but just as hard to hit.

Oh, man, was that Bix watching them? Hanna had time to make out the light hair and skin of the hunter who had awakened her across the green as she attempted to army crawl away from Cami. The tell-tale sound of an arrow being notched almost stopped her cold, but now The Lady was within reach. She couldn't stop now!

Just as Hanna felt the sear of what would have been an arrow cutting an inch into the right side of her calf, her hand locked around slim waist of her weapon. Being slender is just one of my gifts, Adelphe whispered. And curvy at the ends. The wicked hooks at either end of Hanna's blade caught the falling sunlight.

Grabbing it with both hands, Hanna did a forward roll over it and came up in a fighting position. The distance between Cami and Hanna closed as the shorter girl sprinted forward. Strike like you are running through her, she coached herself. Her footsteps didn't slow as she pursued, bringing up her twinblade with another deep slash -- deep, if not for the shields.

All right! Now that was more like it!

There were a few feelings in life that you would never enjoy. That gut-deep wrench when your first pet was lost, the fear as you watched a relationship deteriorate around you, the greasy slide of terror when you got in over your head. Camixi could now add being sliced in half as one of them. The pain flashed through her, causing the young woman to stagger to the side with a sharp cry. Son of a b***h that hurt! She could only think how lucky she was to have the shield to protect her.

Of course Hanna was still moving, no doubt to come back around for a second charge, making things chancy at best. Now aim was imperative and, swiveling on her heel to catch the movement, she heard Ki again in her head. < Lead the shot. Go just a bit ahead where you think she's going to move. > Which, in this case, was fairly linear. It was towards her.

Twang. Another hit!

Hanna was, in fact, already circling back for another blow, but the arrow caught her off guard. It was another piercing blow to her. She felt like swiss cheese. Metaphysical swiss cheese, at least, since the arrows didn't actually penetrate. Fighting a ranged weapon like this one on one should have been easier. Hanna scolded herself for repeatedly giving Cami so much room to line up another shot.

Bring the fight to her! She can't notch a pretty little arrow if you are up in her less than pretty face, Adelphe snarled.

It probably would have been a good time to unleash her Fear, but the girls had agreed to practice combat skills only, no special effects.

Running close, Hanna stabbed The Lady into the ground and spun around her, attempting to double kick Cami. Unfortunately, she hadn't quite planted her weapon firmly enough. It felt out from under her, and she toppled to the side. Again.

If Cami could have heard Adelphe she wouldn't have known what to think about the fact that her arrows were pretty but her face was not. It probably would have thrown the friendly spar for her immediately as she would have stopped to go on a diatribe about how it was not anyone's place to call her not pretty.

She was gorgeous!

Loosing another arrow she did not expect Hanna to try and execute such a spectacular kick, nor fail it. Cursing as the arrow sailed right over to where the woman would have been before the fall, she turned and put distance between them again. This was getting a little ridiculous...on her part.

If it was getting ridiculous, Hanna was pretty sure it was on her part. Golden eyes flashed up to see Cami taking off for more distance. "Nope," she whispered to herself, scrambling to her feet to close the distance. The farther this girl got, the less of a shot Hanna felt like she had.

Giving chase, she felt the wear and tear of the fight catching up on her. In one quick movement, Hanna split her weapon's handle so that she now carried a blade in each hand instead of one solid weapon. Her left blade punched forward, its jagged tip snaring Cami's coat.

Unfortunately, that was about all it did as the other girl quickly outpaced Hanna.

It was impossible to not hear the tear of fabric and realizing (thankfully) that it was her coat. Then she paused. "My coat! Oh come on!" It gave her anger enough to use what little energy reserves she had left to charge ahead a few more paces and turn, aiming another arrow square at her midsection. Maybe if she riddled her full of fake arrows it'd feel bad enough that Hanna would call the duel off. Cami wasn't going to throw in the towel even though her ribs ached from both shield-pain and being just a bit out of shape.

"I am going to turn you into Boromir." Except where Boromir had had roughly four arrows thick-shaftedly sticking out of his chest, Hanna had nothing. At all. Yet the spirit was definitely there, wasn't it? That's all that mattered, really! Never mind that Cami was grinning a bit in a way that signaled the pain was worth this amusement. Bruises she was sure to have across her ribs meant that there was proof.

This was real. Another arrow loosed.

Hanna definitely felt like Boromir. "Nice reference," Hanna said, panting as she got to her feet. "Sorry about your--" ANOTHER ARROW. C'mon, man. A tiny part of Hanna thought that maybe, maybe they were stopping the match due to a clothing mishap. Apparently not.

Her knees felt wooden from all the conditioning she had been doing. Perhaps she was pushing herself too hard. It wouldn't be the first time. But until her calluses were back, this was what she had to do. Earning those suckers had been a painful badge of honor. She needed to earn her golden sticker back.

Before the arrow made contact, Hanna batted it to the side with The Lady. It still nicked her arm something fierce, but a splinter of it went flying back at Cami and made contact. Hey, that counted as a hit in her book!

"Hey!" The breath wooshed out with a small trill of laughter at the end of it. "I'm the only one allowed to be shooting things around here!" Which wasn't really true but damned if that wasn't her shtick! If Hanna wanted to stop, however, she was going to have to raise the proverbial white flag. Or shuck off her coat and wave it around while being riddled with arrows like Cami was freaking Hawkeye. That seemed awesome.

Sometimes no one believed that she was twenty-two and almost in possession of a bachelors in history. Sometimes she didn't think that was unjustified.

"Try to do that again!" Thunk. "Hah!"

It was probably good that Hanna didn't try to do that again. The next arrow still cut too close for comfort, another glancing both that sent a wince of pain through the girl. Her skills with her weapon were still shitty, but at least Hanna's reflexes and speed were doing all right. She had that going for her?

"I feel satisfied with just doing it once," she said, closing the distance between the pair and jabbing out her weapon too slowly. It was easily avoided.

Between the soreness of the movement and the pain from the wounds, Hanna was starting to fatigue.

All in all Cami wasn't sure how she was keeping her energy up. No doubt as soon as everything was finished she was going to crash to the ground like a meteor, paying for it for days to come. Yet it felt good to be dong something. Sitting in her dark room in the basement was terrifying for the college student and, as much as she wanted to thaw Kidana's stern demeanor, there was only so much cajoling.

What she didn't know was that her apparent skill being shown here was earning the redhead more brownie points with her weapon than anything else could have. Hanna's lag allowed another arrow to fly and this time, it struck her dead in the stomach.

Hanna flinched as the arrow-that-would-have-pierced-her-stomach felt like it did exactly that. The air whooshed out of her, but not before she delivered a marginally successful strike to Cami's upper arm. Staggering backward, Adelphe suddenly felt heavy in her arms.

In a normal fight, this would be where Hanna retreated to compose herself, but retreating from Cami meant opening herself up for attack. How had she avoided sparring with someone who had a ranged weapon for this long? Hanna was used to quick, decisive strikes and then running out of attack distance to prepare for her next.

Fighting Cami was, well, entirely different.

Ah! There was the exhaustion, creeping in around the edges as Adelphe raked again across her body. Note to self: do not ever get in a one-on-one fight with someone who has a bladed weapon. Or hell, any weapon. One on one fights were not the forte of a ranged attacker unless the other person happened to be a ranged attacker as well. Half-heartedly she shot at the other young woman, missing by a mile, and trying again to get as far away as quickly as possible.

It spoke to how flagging she was that, at the moment, she didn't get too far.

It was a foot race now!

As Cami tried to increase the distance between them, Hanna gave chase, but she was struggling. Her legs burned with each step. Her hair felt drenched with sweat. But giving up was not an option. She was able to catch up at last, swiping at Cami's side. Unfortunately, the other girl moved just out of the direct blow, taking little more than a swipe as opposed to the full-on hits Hanna had been delivering earlier.

The momentum of the swing didn't stop. Hanna lost control of her direction, spun the other way, and dropped to one knee. "Whoa," she said in spite of herself. In a dizzy spell, Hanna staggered back to her feet -- but slowly, way too slow for a real fight.
