Lemure paced back and forth on her porch, waiting for Mooncake to arrive. She was nervous. The filly had never been on a date before, she'd only read about them in books. Although, to be fair, the characters in the books she read didn't so much go on dates as they just had a lot of sex. They did other things too... mostly solve supernatural crimes, and get into huge magical fights. There really wasn't much time to date when you had to prevent a legion of evil vampires who have teamed up with a dark necromancer from destroying the city and the world!
Boring girls like her though, they had time for dates.
Since Mooncake confessed his feelings for her, Lemure was an emotional wreck. She barely ate; she couldn't sleep. It had been a long several days while she anticipated their first date.
Wanting to look her best, she "borrowed" a fancy shawl out of Taquita's closet. It was dark and had an Old World feel. It made her feel like a dramatic heroine. If Mooncake liked it, her mom was never going to get it back, and she was probably going to have to raid Taquita's clothing to see what else she could commandeer.

Unaware of Lemure's suffering, the purple flutter was a mess in his own way. The past few days had been spent agonizing over what to say. It'd gotten to the point where the stallion had just flat out made himself a pack of flash cards. Of course, given just who it was coming up with all this, all of the topics of conversation beyond the usual small talk of "what's your favorite color? And tell me about your family." were mythology related, as playing to Mooncake's strengths.
Of course, the thought hadn't even crossed his mind that when he finally arrived at her home to pick her up he would forget all of the things he had memorized. As the flutter arrived at his date's porch he could only stare at her in awe for a few moments before he began frantically searching for the right words to say.
"Hello... It's a beautiful day?" The first few things out of his mouth were far from impressive and he winced internally. Oh god, talking about the weather... She probably already thought he was boring. His panicked eyes bounced from place to place, trying to pick out something he could use as a conversation piece. "Your scarf is quite cute. It goes nicely with your eyes. It makes them pop, like... Like shimmering lakes under the moonlight." Oh god that sounded awful. Was that even a scarf? Was there a difference between draped pieces of fabric? Did she already think he was an idiot now?! He was a man of myth! Not of fashion! The stallion chuckled nervously, unaware of the fate he was dooming Lemure's mother to.
"Are you ready to go?"

When she saw Mooncake, Lemure almost melted on the spot. Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at him. Sooooooo dreamy!
His speech was jumpy, and he sounded more nervous than she was by far, but Mooncake's words themselves were suave. He was really really good at complimenting her, and she liked a stallion that was well versed in the verbiage of love.
She ignored the small talk part. The weather was a fine subject for the customers she talked to daily, but she was more interested in more important matters with Mooncake. Like the part where he admiring her. "Oh, this old thing?" Lemure said, playing it cool, "It was just something I found." In the back of my mom's closet. "I'm really glad you like it though!"
It was time for her to try use all of her charms. Lemure really was more booksmart when it came to love, but she had a lot practice flirting as a foal. She moved up closer to him, they were side by side for a moment. She could almost feel his tension. Then, she sashayed down the porch steps, emphasizing each step and sway. "I'm ready. Are you?"
It wasn't likely she could keep her composure all night, and chances were good that she would burst out screeching at some point, but for now Lemure was trying her best to be a perfect picture of class.

"I never thought of it that way!" Lemure said, going back to being more upbeat again. "You're my superhero, Mooncake. You're rescuing me from my doubt." This stallion was a true wordsmith, and she hanged on every word he said. He was amazing at flattery. She could listen to him talk about how amazing she was all day.
"I only thought guys like you existed in books..."
She put her face close to his, and then paused for a moment. She knew what she wanted to do, but was she going too fast? After what felt like forever, she chickened out, and just gave him a small peck on the cheek.
The idea was to leave him wanting more, but really, it was just her making herself want more. This being coy thing was backfiring on her.
