He had heard tell of Muhali's sudden swing in moods. The sudden roundness in her belly. The roaring appetite. The snippy attitude. Most of it would have passed as just Muhali- but she wasn't a round lioness. He thought that perhaps the rumors had been just that- empty rumors. He hadn't seen hide or hair of her since they began. Muhali carefully avoided him. After the first few days he went back to business as always. Muhali was a goddess. She was insanity. She'd reveal herself only when she wanted, how she wanted.
And that's when the summons came.
Shandor woke to a low moan and pulled himself from his cave, trudging on weary paws. He'd not slept well. As the time stretched out, it seemed that the tiny seed of a fear had taken root and blossomed. Perhaps she was just...not feeling well? Maybe her figure had her scared? He didn't know. Couldn't know. His feelings on the matter were...complicated. At best. He cared for Muhali, but as he had never really cared for much on an intimate level, it was hard to recognize. A fluttering? No. No not that. Fluttering was for twitterpated teenagers. Not him. He did not flutter.
But there was something. A tightness perhaps? He was scared for her. Worried? Maybe. But he was in charge here. Being worried was only natural.
As the proposed den loomed ahead, he drew his head up and narrowed his dark eyes. Here went nothing...
