"What a beautiful day..." Amaltheia observed, squinting at the clear blue sky from under the shade of her hair. She moved her gaze to the clear pool of water she was standing beside, her reflection staring back. The plant life in her mane and the one that made up her tail weren't being very lively, she assumed they were enjoying the sun and the heat as much as she was. If not... Then she was certain she would find out the real reason soon enough. If by that point, it wasn't too late.

She lowered her head to the water's surface, lapping up what she needed to quench her thirst. She was taking a short break from her travels. The day was turning out to be too beautiful to rush to whichever destination she would find herself in next. Truth is, she didn't know where she was going, only that wherever it was she knew she was supposed to end up there. Plus, if she didn't take it slow and steady there was a chance she may dehydrate in the heat if she couldn't find the next water source for some time after she left the side of the one next to her.

Lifting her front hoof, she lowered it carefully in to the water. To say the sun was intense, it hadn't done anything to heat the water. It was freezing! Amaltheia's ears stood on their tips as she snorted in surprise. A little uncertain of whether it was a good idea to submerge herself entirely within it's contents. She pushed on and slowly but surely, the liquid was climbing her frame until it was at her shoulders. She shuddered momentarily whilst her body adjusted to the temperature.

After a while soaking within it, it became relaxing and pleasant. She felt selfish having all of the pool to herself and wondered if she would be seeing anyone passing by or stopping for a drink and a dip too. In her previous encounters, something usually cropped up. No matter what situation she found herself in.

It was a little too sunny out. At the same time, rain would be horrible for her feathers. Everything would just get too heavy, and Hero didn't have a beak for perfect preening. And if she thought about that, she would start thinking about her mom. And then she'd get homesick. So, yeah, bad.
If things actually went her way for once, and of course, it wouldn't, the sky would just be overcast. It hid the sun nicely for a whole day, and there wasn't any rain or snow anything to weigh her down.

But, alas, the sun was out and glaring. At least it wasn't summer. Or the desert. Hero shuddered. She hated sand. Too many bad memories of winged siblings taking off with it spraying in her face or flapping it at her. But, again, memories. She didn't want to think about them.

She didn't want to think about ANYTHING, really. That would make life so much easier. Then there wouldn't be opinions, or worries, or cares...but life just couldn't be easy, could it? Hero huffed. Her head filled with expletives instead.

That's when she tripped into the pool. Of course she wasn't preoccupied to walk right into it, but... She should have noticed the branch underfoot, but she didn't, and so she stepped on it, slipped, and twisted to the side, going right over the shore.
Hero fell in with a clumsy splash. To say it was a rude awakening was an understatement. That water was COLD. After thrashing about in shock, she found her footing, and pulled herself back on land. After shaking the water off and sneezing, she huffed once more. Her feathers fell over her face, and her tail pulled down heavily. Great. Who needs bad weather when you had bad luck?

She started stomping off when she noticed something brown lounging in the depths. At first it seemed like some sort of weird tree with growths on it, but...no. It was...a horse? Well, Hero knew her luck was bad, but at least she didn't have weird buds growing out of her head. In her horrid mood, her brows went into a deep furrow. "Aren't you FREEZING in there? Are you INSANE?"

User Image It was never long before the peace was disturbed. Amaltheia had her eyes closed when the other drew near to the pools edge, her ears sensing the sound of cushioned hoof beats for some time whilst she soaked. It was when she opened her eyes that the sight within them gave her a shock. Eyes widening, her focus turned to the beautiful and most exotic feathers that hung around her neck for a mane, curving with an unknown grace;a tail to match. Even though the other mares feathery mane and tail caught her interest, there was something else which grasped it more...

Lowering her eyes, they set sight on two clawed feet, resembling that of a birds. This was remarkable! The mare was truly blessed by the Gods! She was so blinded by her amazement that she too hadn't seen the branch she was about to trip on and when the mare came hurdling towards her in the instant, she let out a squeak of distress and clamped her eyelids together tight. Fearing the worst.

When all that hit her was several swooping waves of water and not the extra body, Amaltheia was instantly relieved however her triffids weren't. They soon awoke from their slumber. Growling irritably and shaking wildly. At least, one of them was. She opened her eyes and looked at snappy briefly in order to make sure he wasn't anywhere near the panicking mare in case he was planning to punish her for the rude awakening or take a sneaky bite.

When she was assured she snapped her gaze back on the mare now climbing back to safety. She gave a weak smile. "Bless you." She commented on her sneeze and was surprised to see the other leaving so quickly. Ears lowered, her smile soon faded and worry set in. Had the mare hurt herself?

Well, she couldn't live with herself if she didn't offer her some form of comfort or help. She made an attempt to move toward the edge of the pool in order to exit when the mares attention finally found her and elected to question her sanity. She blinked a couple of times and then shook her head gently. "I don't believe I am!" She called to her, chuckling. "It's not so bad once you get used to the initial shock."

She continued her mission to exit the water and climbed out, shaking herself off before moving closer to the other. Her expression now fixed in worry. "That must have been a nasty fall. Are you ok? Did you hurt anything?" Genuinely worried she may hurt herself, other than being shocked and irritated by the event, she moved her head from side to side in order to give some kind of examination.

Hero had shaken her head at the odd, dumb thing in the water, then continued on her way, huffing at the feathers fallen over her eyes. From behind, she heard something break the water's surface. Then the plant mare's voice was creeping closer...and closer.

Frankly, the half-gryph was slightly horrified. She did nothing an now this THING was following her?! Instead of shuddering, she quietly cussed to herself. "I'm FINE. ...Personal space, much? Spirits, what is your ISSUE?" This strange horse was looking her over and keeping WAY too close. Hero sped her pace up a bit.

With a closer look at the creature, Hero was much more unnerved. The other mare's eye whites were pure black, and she seemed to lack pupils. While her hair seemed feathery and possibly gryph-related, with the plants growing out the back of her head, they were more likely leaves. She was both creepy and friendly. The worst combination, in Hero's mind.

"You can buzz off and do plant things or whatever. I was LEAVING." Her ears flicked in irritation, and she tried even harder to get away. Hero winced a little at the soreness in her limbs, still smarting a little from falling into such a shallow pool. She'd prefer the pain over drowning, honestly.

At this point, Amaltheia had no idea she was subconsciously following the mare;an instinctive response. As the others irritation of her presence grew, she slowed her pace in order to give her some room, as requested, but still had her eyes swirling across her frame to try pin point any obvious source of pain.

"Sorry..." She gave her an awkward, apologetic smile however she didn't believe that the mare was truly fine like she demanded she was. It wasn't enough to rid Amaltheia of her worry and she would continue to follow, as uncomfortable as it was for the other, until she was reassured that the mare was indeed... Fine.

The movement was making determining the source of her discomfort a difficult task, she may not be a doctor but she did know that when she was in pain then she would twitch or shake and possibly moan depending on how concentrated it was. That was when her eyes caught the rare shudder in her legs and to make certain it wasn't just a muscle spasm, she kept her gaze fixated on it.

Her attention was no sooner demanded once more. She snapped her eyes from her legs to the face of the stranger. Ears flattened to the back of her head and eyes wide with narrowed brows. It appeared the mare wasn't pleased with her and wanted to be free to go her own way, alone.

"You should rest!" She pleaded, moving one more step closer to her. "It might not be something you can simply walk off. I'm not a doctor but I wouldn't be able to stand by and have you out of sight, not knowing whether you were stranded somewhere in pain with no way of getting help."

"What, do I look INCAPABLE to you?" Hero snapped. "I'll have you know I grew up in the DESERT. Do you know how HARD it is to cross from there to these grasslands? If I could survive THAT okay, I'll get over falling into some stupid water!"
If she had been a little less cold, a little less wet, and a little less, well, Hero, she would appreciate Amaltheia's concern a little. Instead, she only found it to be nosy and nagging. "You don't even KNOW me so buzz off. If I wanted someone to mommy over me I wouldn't have left home in the first place! Anyway, if you wanna be so concerned about someone's health, you should look into the fact that you have weird BUDS growing on you, you weirdo!" She looked at the pool with some distaste. "Ugh, I hope that didn't come from bathing in THERE. The last thing I need is something like THAT growing on ME."

With one more harumph, Hero continued on her stompy way, not caring one bit about all the horrible things she just said. She needed to find some sunlight to sit in for a while, AWAY from others, and hope to dry off until she felt fit to go about business as usual.

Hopefully this busy-body would stop following her before she got REALLY mad.

Amaltheia retracted her head when the mare snapped back at her. Jaw dropping a touch, she thought she was shaking her head frantically in order to emphasise the misunderstanding however the abrupt accusation had her stalled. It wasn't at all that she thought the other was incapable of looking after herself, the mare may be young but so was Ama and she too had proven she was capable... Capable meaning she wasn't dead, even if she had encountered some close calls.

The desert was something Ama had never seen before, another setting she could only imagine and since the mare made it a point that it went towards her capability to survive, the environment must have been challenging. Her aspects perfectly suited to its ordeals.

Ears pinning back at the insult, Amaltheia's eyes slipped slowly to their corners to take a glimpse at the pool she had been bathing in before the clawed mare stumbled in to it's contents. If it was in her nature to do so, then she would have pointed out that the process would have already started within the mare and before long she too would be budding triffids however that wasn't the case and she let out a gentle sigh.

Eyes falling back on the mare, body loosening in to a dumbfound state, her lips warmed in to a smile while a soft chuckle found it's way through. She couldn't allow the mare to continue on without an escort, despite her protest and if she had to follow silently with the odd insult or two thrown at her, then so be it.

She continued to follow her with a slow pace, quickening when she had to, to keep her within sight. She would try her best not to agitate the mare further but somehow she didn't think her best efforts would be enough this time... Whether she was as silent as a falling leaf or as loud as a stampede she believed the other would continue to be irritated by the mere thought of her presence.

Oh SPIRITS, she was still being followed. Did this weird mare think she was good at stealth? Yes, she was dark and blended into the surroundings more than Hero would, but Hero could still see Amaltheia out of the corner of her eye. And it seemed that she just wouldn't let UP. Once in a while the half-gryph would stop to shoot a glare at her follower, or grumble about PESTS.

Eventually she came to a tree, where, after observing it for a couple of moments, she stood up on her hind legs and starting sharpening her claws. It was a loud, cacophonous business. She started shredding bark, hoping some would fly Amaltheia's way. Or maybe the noise would scare her off. If only. Hero snorted, going at it a little more than she honestly needed to.

But frankly, she didn't know what her next move should be. The plant-like mare would have to step off EVENTUALLY, but how much stamina would she have to use up just for that? How much time would she have to waste to get this annoying tick off of her? It just disgruntled her even MORE.

Stupid social horses and their CARING.
