The timer buzzed loudly, bringing Candy Dandy's attention from the book she was running her eyes over. She laid it down on the counter and retrieved the piping pan from the oven with the help of oven mitts. The muffins inside where all a little different; she had used the same batter, and added in different things to parts of it as a test batch for some new products she was thinking of creating.
She inhaled deeply, but the smells were too varied for her to judge them solely on that sense alone. She thought of trying them herself, but she was already hoping they would be good. What if she sabotaged her own mind into thinking they were great?
She she dumped them out of the pan to cool, a thought occurred to her. "I've got it!" she said, dropping the pan in her excitement. She winced at the sound, and quickly picked it back up and put it in the sink. Then she galloped her way outside of the shop, scanning the crowd for potential taste testers.
"Yoo hoo! You! Over there!" she shouted, waving at a little unicorn foal with minty green fur. When she looked over, Candy beckoned her closer. She explained the idea, and ushered the foal inside. Now it wouldn't do to have only one tester. Phonies tongues were different after all! She spied a bright red foal across the street and again said "Hey! Little red foal! Would you mind helping me?"

Knockout has planned on spending his day looking for other phonies to start some trouble. Now that he had a tutor to teach him more awesome fighting moves, he was ready to brawl and all the time. He had strolled into a nice looking neighborhood, thinking that he could find some rich wimps to beat up, but after a while of walking around it didn't look like there where any foals he could tussle with. Dammit. He was going to turn around and head out of this lame zone when suddenly, Candy Dandy was calling out to him.
He whirled around and gave her a 'What is it?' scowl, but when the pink filly said that she needed help with something, that vaguely piqued his interest. He trotted her way, coming to a stop outside the front door. "What do you want, lady?" He had no idea what she was going to say, but the answer would be no if he wasn't going to get something pretty good out of it.

Candy smiled while the other foal looked through her legs at the red colt.
"Hi there! I have some muffins that I made that are a few new recipes. And while I could taste test them myself", I figured I would recruit somephony else to tell me how they are!" Her grin widened. "How about lending a hoof?" She moved to the side, inviting Knockout in. "I'm Candy Dandy by the way. And this is Minty Breeze." The other foal waved shyly.

Oh, so that's what she was on about. He was feeling a little hungry anyway after the walk to get to this side of Phonyland, so the pegasus decided to help out. He nodded to her request for assistance, following the adult into her home. "Yeah, sure thing. And my name is Knockout." When Candy wasn't looking, he gave the other colt the best intimidating glare he could muster. Most of those muffins, if they were any good, would be his. The blond followed after Candy into the kitchen without another word, awaiting her presentation of the treats that he would soon readily devour. Free food, oh yeah.

"Oh good!" Candy said excitedly. "Now you two just sit over here at the table, and I'll get the muffins!" She was oblivious to the look that Knockout had given the other foal, or that Minty seemed a little more frightened than before. Instead she hummed to herself while she went and grabbed the muffin pan.
Placing one plate in front of each of them, she decorated the surface with three different kinds of muffins, and gave them each a glass of milk to wash them down with.
"Alright! So I'm trying new recipes, so let me know what you think!" she said, pointing to each muffin in a round. "The first one is a cucumber carrot muffin, the second is banana toffee and the third one is a zucchini bran." She smiled ans said, "I'll give you guys some time to try them, and be back in just a couple minutes!" Then she trotted away, intent on doing some paperwork while the two testers did their work.

Looking down at the plate of muffins in front of him, Knockout wasn't exactly sure what to think right away. Cucumber carrot? Who the hell had ever heard of that combination before? Banana toffee sounded alright, but he really wasn't sure that he wanted to test that zucchini bran... Ugh. Glancing over at Minty Breeze, who was already taking a tentative bite of his first muffin, spurred the red foal into manning up and eating it anyway. He reminded himself of his earlier incentive to do this: free food. It didn't have to be good for him to eat it. He took a bite from the cucumber carrot and...
Struggled not to choke. The outward appearance of the muffin was just fine, but it was much too sweet for the pegasus. He quickly grabbed the glass of milk and gulped some down before moving onto the next one. Hopefully this would get better. Banana toffee couldn't be that bad, right? He took another bite, and where was the flavor? What taste was there seemed to fade in and out until it was just gone; that muffin was rather bland despite the name making it sound awesome. Another chug of milk to clear his mouth of the disappointment. And finally, he munched on the zucchini bran. His face turned into a bit of a frown, because it did not taste like he'd just eaten a muffin. The texture was not right, and the blend of flavors probably was not what it was supposed to be.
Downing the rest of the milk in his glass, he pushed the plate away from him once he was all done. Yeesh, Candy Dandy was not gonna be happy when he laid it on her just what he thought of her muffins. But whatever. It wasn't his deal that she might not've put them in for long enough or something.

Hopelessly Pretty I never knew how difficult it was to come up with bad sounding muffins! XD
"Soooo what did you think?" she said cheerfully, looking from one foal to the other.
Minty Breeze looked at Knockout with eyes of confusion. Do they tell her the truth?
"Uh, I.....I thought they were...good!" The young one finally decided to say with a wavering smile. "Yeah! They were great!"

Blue Eyed Melloon Omfg, sorry it took me so long to reply to you. I have just been really, really busy with school. orz
He gestured to his plate, which still had the muffins on it save for a single bite taken from each. "The first one was too sweet, the second had no taste at all, and the third one was just weird. I dunno if you got the recipes from the ancient book or something but you need to start over from scratch on all of them."
There, he had said it. The pegasus didn't bat his pretty eyes even once now that his opinion was out of the bag. He turned to just leave Candy's house, his work now done on critiquing her baking.

At first, Candy smiled under the praised of Minty Breeze. That smile faltered and became a small frown when Knockout decided to have his turn critiquing her work. He was blunt, and each time he mentioned what was wrong with the muffins, she felt her heart jolt a little. Were they really that bad?
Then just like that, he was leaving. He managed to get out of the door before the shock of what just happened could be shaken from the mare's legs. Leaving Minty Breeze at the table looking horrified, she galloped after the little pegasus.
"Wait!" She called out, skidding to a stop next to the foal. "I..I didn't get to thank you for your critique."

The pegasus was a little surprised that Candy would actually come outside to thank him for his criticisms of her muffins, but he just nodded to her. "Now that I know where you live, I'll come back around to try some more. I'll be expecting the toffee one to be perfect, next time. See ya." It was the closest he would come to complimenting the baker, a sort of way of saying that he believed she could make better muffins with more practice. With that, the colt trotted off to go back to his original pursuit of finding someone to spar with. Blue Eyed Melloon I guess we can be done now, unless you want to close with Candy's reaction. c:
