Once she's satisfied that the frog-pae had backed off, and wouldn't come at her again like some lunatic, Portia shifts back into her Pae form. She fixes him with a withering expression. "Do not touch me again. It is disrespectful and I will not tolerate it, especially when you come here asking me for something."

She holds out her hand. "If you want to make a trade, show me what you have to trade. Exchanging bodily contact is wholly unnecessary." And she'd thought the one called Kurt had been dim-witted. Good heavens.

With a heavy sigh, Kurt made a mental note not to bring anyone else here. At least not anyone as Ahi-like. Looking down to the Naiad he added, "You heard the lady. Show her what you brought, at a distance this time." While he tried to look apologetic to Portia, it didn't feel enough.

That was fine, the second mental note would be to come back with more alpaca rope to make it up to her at shearing season.

Ahi looked up at Kurt, he was still afraid of this strange lady pae who was very grumpy. It took a few moments before Ahi slowly came out from behind Kurt. He didn't move far though, he instead stood in front of Kurt, and put his hands out palms up slightly cupping the items he brought with him. A coin, a small pearl, a small gem, and the shell. "Ahi sorry" he nearly whispered not meeting the strange girl pae's eyes.

Ahi sorry? "Good," Portia responds tersely. He ought to be.

She peers into the outstretched hands of the frog-pae. He appears to have nothing but baubles to offer, but the pearl is pretty. And a pearl for a pearl seemed fair, plus the other bits made the trade better-weighted for her. The gem she could trade for something, and the coin looked old--worth hanging onto.

"Very well," she says, opening her hand to receive the things the frog-pae had offered. "It's a fair trade."

He tentatively took a step forward and after a moment put the small pile of items into her hands, and then backed up about as fast as he could. As much as he didn't want to give away his treasures Kurt had made the other treasure the scary lady pae had would be even better. He looked between Kurt, Portia, her hands and the water. As scary as she was he was beginning to get excited again and he bounced on the balls of his feet.

Kurt stood by silently watching. He was greatly curious as to what the not-pearl would end up looking like after Ahi touched it. That same curiosity was held in check by anxiety enough to make him worried he'd loose feathers over this. The worry that Ahi would do something else he shouldn't gripped the male like a lasso to the heart pulling him on to the balls of his won feet.

To his credit he remained still, if tense, just watching and waiting.

Portia closes her hand over the little treasures and nods once. Clearly the frog-pae felt they were valuable enough to trade. The way he acts--like a fully grown toddler--almost makes her feel sorry for him. Almost.

She goes to the water and scoops out a pearl for the frog-pae, leaving her new baubles on the ground near the pond's edge. She puts the pearl in the frog-pae's hand, by now expecting it to grow and change the way the others had.

"All trades are final," she says firmly. "No take-backsies."

She'd noticed the angel waiting with baited breath and with tenseness in his body. He's obviously nervous, but why? Perhaps he worries the frog-pae would act out again. Hm. Perhaps I misjudged him.

This is the moment Ahi (and Kurt) had been waiting for. As contact with his hands warms the surface of the strange pearl, something odd begins to happen. The pearl begins to grow in size, shedding the silvery-blue luster and taking on a different color. It grows and grows, until it's about the size of a grapefruit.

He bounced from one foot to the other but not moving closer to the water as the blue scary pae dipped her hands into the water and pulled out the the special treasure. 'No take-backsies'... a term Ahi was familiar with and he nodded eagerly his agreement to the statement. "Not take-backsies yes yes! Ahi no take-backsies!" He held both hands out as she puts the pearl in his hands, his eyes grew wide as the pearl changed right in front of his eyes, and while her changing was scary this wasn't, it fascinated and excited him. Once it stopped changing he pulled it close to his chest, he wanted so much to hug the scary fairy and say thanks but he didn't want to see that scary other side of hers again, so he settled with saying thankyou a dozen times in his excited voice.

Watching with great interest, Kurt was rewarded when the not-pearl changed shape and color again. It was an amazing sight, even better since he wasn't surprised by it that he could really watch how it happened.

He had to smile warmly as he watched Ahi's reaction to the change. Just like he expected, Ahi was thrilled and enjoyed his not-pearl just has Kurt treasured his own. In his long life he had never encountered anything like the not-pearl and Kurt would bet his feathers Ahi had not either.

With how remarkable they were, he was still surprised Portia was so willing to let one go. When he had enough fibers, he'd return with a better gift for her. For now, he felt she was probably eager to see her overly excited naiad guest on his way before he tired to hug her again. After he said his thanks many times, Kurt spoke up, "Are you ready to bring it home?" It came from the water, even now he wasn't sure if he should keep his in water. It seemed fine out of the water so it must do well in both, remarkable item that it was.

Portia shudders as the pearl grows in the frog-pae's hands. Eugh. The process unnerved her--nothing should grow that quickly, or that large. Whatever was in those not-pearls was not natural.

"Yes, yes, you're welcome. Goodbye."

She heads back into her hut-on-stilts, eager to have this whole awkward not-pearl thing done with.

I think that's about all Portia can offer you guys! XD Enjoy those pearls!

Kurt interupted Ahi's thankyous and the naiad looked over at him. This lil treasure was his newest treasure and thus his most treasured one.... for now... "Bring home, yes please" He looked back to Portia to thank her again but she was already gone, so instead he moved to follow Kurt again back out of this place back towards the water he called home.

Nodding, Kurt lifted off the ground into a low hover before turning back towards the lake. Figuring if he got the naiad to the water, then the little guy would find his own way back to him. Without checking to make sure he was following, Kurt headed towards the water staying on the easier to traverse ground rather then how the crow flies.
