HONESTY

There was something to be said for siblings, Purl thought. She grinned and ducked behind a stack of yarn. A chase was on! Their game was a mishmash of hide and seek and tag... BAsically, Rock Sugar was it. And Purl ran and hid until he found her, then she ran again. The game was only lost if Sugar touched her. Her tail, secured in a heavy braid, swished.

"Are you bliiiiind? she called out, her voice a mocking sing song. They really were supposed to be playing in the shop, but it had all these cozy nooks and towers upon towers of yarn. The sound of hooves galvanized her into action and she skidded around a precariously balanced stack of skeins. It wobbled alarmingly.

To be honest, Rock Sugar wasn't a huge fan of this game. The running was annoying and he was horrible at catching his sister. But she loved it and he liked to please his sister so if she wanted to do this, then they would. Even if they were playing in Knit Once's shop, full of towers of yarn and other various knitting supplies. Dangerous in a way, almost.

He huffed a bit. Really he wasn't blind but his eyes did look waxy. "You know I'm not!" Ok, not the most well thought out response. Rock slid around a corner and saw Purl. "Aha, see you!"

Humming quietly, she peeked around the corner, and summarily let out a squeak of distress. Sugar came into view and worse, he spotted her. She hadn't expected him to so quickly find her. Startled, she backed up, hooves skidding a little on the shop floor. There was no way she was going to get caught!

There was a thud as her butt solidly connected with a basket of carefully balanced yarn. It cascaded across her back. She oofed, and a ball bounced off her rump and smacked into Sugar's shoulder. An idea struck. Concentrating, Purl's horn glowed and a particularly weighty skein went flying straight at Rock Sugar.

The foal grinned at the sight of his sister. Sure he saw her, but now he had to catch her. That would prove difficult since he was pretty sure she was faster then him, he blamed that his rock formation made him heavier. Yep, that totally made sense. Really just had to try though!

Rock Sugar didn't want to run right at her, he might loose her again. So he trotted slowly toward her. His eyes widened as a ball of bulky weight yarn came flying towards him. "Hey! No fair!" Using his own magic, he sent the skein of yarn back towards his sister.

"All's fair in yarn and waarrrr~" she singsonged. "The art of strategic warfare... um." Purl trailed off. She had been about to say something scathing and profound, but forgot what right in the middle of the sentence. Her cheeks flushed. To cover for her blunder, she sent another skein of yarn tumbling towards Sugar. It unraveled in the air, tangling around everything it passed.

The soft mohair even managed to drape across her own horn and she squeaked in surprise. Dropping to her belly dramatically, she tried to scoot out from underneath the yarn, which was now a messy web of sorts. "Ahhhh, look what you did!" Purl knew, of course, that it wasn't really his fault, but ah, blaming siblings was perfectly normal, of course.

should anything be changed?

Rock grinned a bit. "Yarnfare!" So many yarn puns there were to be had. He'd been chuckling at the puns and got hit right in the face with skein that went flying. Even worse, it got stuck on his spiraly horn. Great. Now he was attached to this yarn and all of it's remains.

He chuckled though when he realized it was also stuck to Purl's horn. "Look, now we match." Rock took a step back but the yarn was caught around more then just them and walking backwards might cause a yarn-alanche.

The sound that came from Purl's mouth could only be described as a cackle. Rock looked hilarious! "Wellllll, we''re certainly in a tangle. Ohhhh, this one's is made of hemp!" Purl paused and rubbed a cheek against a nearby skein. She then ducked , or tried to duck around the table. The yarn twisted around her and she toppled dramatically. Her tail had also knotted with another skein. Frowning, she tried to yank it free, only to pull the knots tighter. She froze.

"Oh no, someone's coming!" She hissed dramatically.

When his sister moved, he was tugged that way too as well. He watched more yarn fall down onto Purl. Rock knocked slightly into a small stand of yarn and it started to topple. He was about to talk when Purl mentioned someone coming. Oh no, it could only be one other! "Hide!" Rock tried to hide under a table but with yarn everywhere, it was difficult.

Knit Once had been in the back room and hadn't heard much of what was going on. She knew they were playing but didn't know what had gone on. The door from the back room opened and Knit walked into the main room. She sighed. "And what have you two been up too? It was hard to tell from her voice how she felt about yarn everywhere.

"Uh," Purl said ingeniously, wanting nothing more than to duck under a pile of yarm. Her eyes slanted over to Rock. "N-nothing at all." The toppled pile did not LOOK like nothing, and she knew it. Yarn was tangled around the both of them, a colorful web of disarray. Knit Once's calm tone made Purl nervously and she shifted anxiously from hoof to hoof.

"He started it!" she blurted abruptly. Good going, Purl, smooth.

Hiding didn't go as planned and it looked like his sister didn't have much luck either before Knit had walked in. Rock cringed slightly at the entire situation as Purl explained nothing was going on. Knit would know something went on obviously. And there it was, Purl said that he had started it all. Well, he couldn't remember who started the game but he did cause her to bump the first skein off the shelf. "I didn't start it though!"

Knit Once would have laughed over how frightened the two foals looked. She didn't mind this, yes they had to clean up but foals would be foals. What she didn't like was they weren't telling the truth per say. "Well someone has to clean this all up." Luckily they have magic, so it wouldn't take a terrible long time to wind them back up. She knew they did it but she didn't want to outright blame them, she wanted them to be honest about it.

Rock couldn't stand it though. He fidgeted a bit. "It was me, I started it, don't blame Purl, I'll clean it all up by myself." To be honest, the purple foal couldn't stand being unhonest. There was nothing to gain from with lying after all and technically he did start the little game today, Purl did participate but he started it all.

The expression that blossomed over Purl's face as Rock confessed was almost comical - a blend of horror and guilt and reluctance. She'd expected her brother to spin out some sort of come back, not to just... take the blame! The little filly shifted from hoof to hoof. She tossed her mane and mumbled a few very uncomplimentary things under her breath. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore.

"It was my fault too!" she blurted with all the grace of a bull in a china shop. Purl had been quite prepared to lie her little way through things, but seeing Rock take all the blame was unconsciousable. "W-we were playing and it.. got out of hand. I threw the first bit of yarn, though." She trembled lightly; owning up to things was hard.

Rock Sugar was very glad that his sister ended up telling the truth as well. He was glad that they could both just be honest to their mom, telling lies, especially to her, would have just made things worse. The foal was about to speak when he was interrupted by Knit Once.

The mare chuckled, she couldn't keep a straight face. "Ok, ok. Because you two were honest we can all clean this up together, I'll help." They were mostly honest, it only took a little pulling to get them to tell the truth. They needed to learn that though. If they had lied they would have been in a lot more trouble and had a much worse punishment. But since they had told the truth, they got a much lighter punishment. "Just remember, honesty is much better than unhonesty." Ok, Knit wasn't the best with words but that should get the point across. "Let's getting this picked up now alright?"

Rock let out a sigh of relief. It turned out much better than he thought it would! Honesty was definitely the best answer. "I'll always stick to honesty! I'll get the swift, Purl you want to get the winder?" The foal went off to the backroom to get the swift so they could clean up.

"Ok, Rock. I was still better at yarnfare, though~" With a light grumble, Purl scooted off to grab the yarn winder. She could be honest, but that didn't mean she had to graceful about it. But, she could admit reluctantly, it was better than lying. And possibly brought about much less punishment than lying. Humming, she filed that thought away for the future.
