Candy tugged her cart along, a skip to her step and a hum in her throat. In the cart behind her sat four baskets. They were smaller than her typical wares, but this was on purpose. These weren't for a specific customer. They were going to be displayed in Latte's coffee shop.
Being a coffee shop, Candy took care to make sure the baskets fit the theme. Chocolate and coffee were the main ingredients, and various shades of brown were used. There were chocolate coffee cups, sugar swirls and the piece de resistance: chocolate covered coffee beans. A new type of treat that the pink haired phony created just for these baskets. She avoided the use of fruits for these ones. They may not be bought immediately, and fruit sitting out of the fridge went bad faster. No, only sugar, chocolate and coffee in these ones!
She reached the coffee shop after a few minutes, and shook the cart yoke off her back. She entered the shop with a smile, waving to the phony behind the counter.
"Hiya Latte! I brought you some baskets!" grasshopper pie Sorry I totally spaced on starting this until now!

Latte was not alone in the shop this time! A couple of younger phonies, one without a cutie mark, were helping to clean up the cafe. One in particular used her natural-born powers to scrub an upper corner. Since Mooncake began working with her, she had considered that perhaps some help was not a bad thing.
"Candy!" she chirped when he friend entered. They hadn't seen nearly enough of each other lately, and so much was going well! There was so much to share, and look at how gorgeous those arrangements were!
"Wow, those are great! Do you think they should go in the fridge? Probably not the freezer, right...?"
Hopefully this would be the beginning of a grand partnership. She certainly wanted a basket herself now...

"I would say the ones that you aren't gonna put out right now could go in the fridge. But as long as it isn't too hot in here, they should be just fine!" She smiled and pulled a small clear bag from the cart.
"I brought a few of the extra chocolate coffee beans if you want to try them." she looked at the two youngsters working around the shop. "They are certainly welcome to try some as well!"
She placed the bag on the counter, the brought the baskets in and put them on a table.
"I tried to go with a chocolate coffee theme this time. Figured that would be best for a coffee shop!" she giggled happily.

"Ooh..." Latte cooed, and gave an appreciative smile as she popped a chocolate-covered bean in her mouth. Coffee and chocolate, what was there not to like?! The flavors flooded her mouth, and she beamed as her employees approached. One recoiled at the strong taste, but the other just nodded happily.
"That's good!" Latte nodded, "Shine, can you help me here?"
The unicorn agreed, and the pair spent some time arranging the baskets in a pleasant manner on the shelf.
"You girls can go!" Latte finally chirped, and the phonies left with a little nod to Candy. Latte turned to her friend and shook her head.
"Those'll sell like... !"
'Hot cakes' didn't sound right.
"...like candy? Hah! Anyway, it's so nice to see you again!"

Candy looked at her baskets, sitting in an arranged row and looking just wonderful! It made her want to dance, seeing them out in the open instead of in the confines of her kitchen.
She laughed at Latte's joke, and said "I hope they sell like candy on Halloween!" she said. "It's nice to see you too. I feel like we haven't talked in forever. Or at least not since we figured out this order."
She looked around the shop, and said "So are you confined here all day? Or do you think your lovely help can watch the shop while you get lunch? I'm starving!"

There had been a time when Latte would have politely refused. Since the incursion of Mooncake, though, she was a little more comfortable leaving her shop in the hands of her well-trained staff.
She had trained them herself, after all!
Even then, they were just cleaning up for lunch break, so it was the perfect time!
"No, of course! Just give me one second."
Latte trotted off to her unicorn friend and spoke with her briefly, informing her that if she was not back in time, to open up anyway. her calling as warmth, after all, so where better to work that a cafe? Aside from a blanket business, of course, but then you never got to see any results. Latte soon returned to her friend and nodded.
"Where should we go?"

Candy clapped her hooves together, saying "Wonderful!"
She waited patiently while Latte prepared her assistants. Maybe she should get a helper. It certainly would make her life easier....maybe she could get that little pirate Filly Buster to come in....
Her musing was interrupted by Latte asking where they should go. Candy already had that planned that part!
"There is this place a few blocks down that makes an awesome quiche. I dunno if you have ever had quiche before, but it's my latest obsession!" She giggled. Even she could enjoy something that wasn't sweet every once in a while.
She opened the door, gesturing for Latte go exit first. "Sounds good right?"

Latte blinked a few times, looked up at her menu board, and then turned back to Candy. She'd gladly follow her where ever they were going but... ?
"What's a quiche?"
It didn't sound good, no. In fact, it sounded a little like painful aerobics.

"Oh! A quiche is made up of egg whites, and they put all kinds of goodies in them! Like broccoli, onions and cheese!" She thought she heard apprehension in Latte's voice, and hoped that she was making a good decision to take her there.
"But, I mean, there are other things on the menu besides that!" she said hurriedly as the building came into view. "Veggie sandwiches and tarts and I think their seasonal thing is a pumpkin cheesecake."
They entered the restaurant, a small little place with only a dozen or so booths and a smattering of loose tables with chairs. The decor was kitsch; trinkets and novelty toys were draped over shelves and hanging on the wall.
Candy and Latte were seated at a booth, and handed menus.
Please let there be something that she likes. Candy thought. I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable!

Latte tried her very hardest to not act surprised. Egg whites were runny, gummy things she generally avoided, but if Candy said they were good, they must be good! She'd have to try at least a little bit, just to see.
She sat at the booth with the menu, kicking her hooves as she looked it over. She could certainly go for a tart, herself, but...
"Do the quiches come in small bits, or just the whole big... if they're big, can I try a bit of yours?" She was excited to try new things, of course, but if she didn't like it, she didn't want to be stuck with it!

"They are pretty good sized slices, so I can definitely share!" She typically had to take some of it home in a to-go container anyway.
"What are you going to get? I might trade you a bite for a bite!" She said, laughing a bit. Only about half the tables inside were filled, so Candy figured they didn't have to be exceedingly quiet.

"Look! Veggie-cheese tart," she said, showing Candy the menu as if she didn't know the place, "I know I'll like that. I'm excited to try quiche, though. What is it cooked in?"
Did it have a tart crust? No crust? Pastry dough? This was a strange foreign food, and she had absolutely no concept of them whatsoever.

As the waiter approached, Candy tapped her hoof to her chin. "I forget what kind of crust it is. I'll ask!"
The waiter stopped at their table, and said "Hi there ladies! What can I get for you today?"
"What kind of crust does the quiche have?" Candy asked, pointing at the menu as if the waiter didn't know what she was talking about.
"It's a pastry crust." she said with a smile, and Candy nodded.
"Alrighty! Well I would like The broccoli and cheese quiche." she said, folding her menu. "And a lemonade!" She added with a sweet smile.
The waiter nodded and wrote down her order, looking to Latte with the pen still in his mouth.

Ooh, pastry crust. Perhaps quiche wasn't so scary after all! latte smiled and turned to the waiter.
"Could I have the--"
Wait a second. That picture of quiche... it looked an awful lot like a tart, didn't it?
"Ah, heck, I'd like the mixed veggie quiche, please! ... and a vanilla milk shake, and a water!" She just couldn't do without something creamy. As the waiter left, she turned to Candy, resting her chin on a hoof.
"So what's new with you? Anything exciting?"

The waiter nodded and walked away, leaving the two mares to their conversation. Candy was glad that Latte decided to try something new, though she hoped that she would actually like it.
She too leaned forward to match her comrades pose, saying "Well, I've been getting a few orders here and there, and since I saw your assistants I am thinking I should hire a helper or two." She paused, then dug in her mind further.
"Hmmm oh! I got to attend my step-brother's wedding recently!" she suddenly chimed. "He asked me to provide some baskets. Got to wear a fancy dress and everything!" She thought back to that night fondly. The music, the dancing...
She snapped out of her daydream and asked "What about you? Any good gossip I get to know about?"
