Welcome to the Hokkaido-ben General Discussion!
This is where we discuss everything related to the Japanese hokkaido-ben dialect, including, but not limited to:
-differences in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and other things between hokkaido-ben and Tokyo-ben -recommendations for dictionaries, websites, etc that help you learn Hokkaido-ben and everything else about the Japanese dialect of the Rural Hokkaido island region.
Hokkaido's residents are (relatively) recent arrivals from all parts of Japan, and its dialect reflects these varied influences. Features of Hokkaido-ben include a distinctive vocabulary and less prounounced differences between masculine and feminine speech. The following are some examples of words and phrases common in Hokkaido that are uncommon in standard Japanese
~This dialect is used on the far north island of Hokkaido. Number of speakers confused sub dialects: (see forth post) Relation to other dialects:Tohoku-ben, Miyagi-ben, kansai-ben, tokyo-ben
