(PRP) Delicious happiness [Mooncake/Candy Dandy][Laughter]

Mooncake was hungry for something other than the food his mother cooked, he wanted to try something new and different. So, the little flutter boy had endeavored to venture out to the closest shop where he could try a new food, a messenger bag slung across his bad which dragged only the ground behind him. Going was slow, as the little colt had insisted on bringing at least a picture book with him along with the money it may require.

In that manner he'd come along a pale blue candy shop and his eyes lit up at the sight of the colorful treats inside the counter. This would do. These sweets were so beautiful that they couldn't be anything but delicious, even if they weren't at ll like the traditional asian pastries he was used to or the asian candies he was familiar with.

He walked up to the counter, leaning against the glass as he peered into it. He didn't know what any of these things were. Chocolate turtles, fudge. It was all new and mysterious and he doubted he'd be able to make a choice.

"Hello!"

Sweet Treats Baskets was unusually quiet today. Candy found herself idly filling the sweet case and cleaning all the nooks and crannies of the store. She was wiping the window sills when the door opened, sending the bell above it ringing.

Candy turned and saw a smallish Flutter Phony at the counter, eyeing the wares inside. She lowered the rag into the bucket on the floor and wiped her brow, making sure her curls were in place. Then she walked behind the counter and bent down to look through the glass.

"Why hello there!" she said, waving a hoof. "Welcome to Sweet Treat Baskets! Are you looking for a basket of goodies? Or just a treat or two?"

Mooncake stared blankly at her, not sure what his answer should be. "A basket would be too much. I'm not a giant." With a frown he resumed staring at the candies, speculative. "I- I don't know. Do any of these ... things have interesting stories behind them? Like was fudge invented to please some fancy king?"

His gaze became expectant as he looked to the mare for an anser. Many of the pastries he was used to had a long tradition behind them. The food of his namesake was eaten to celebrate a lunar god during a festival in the autumn. If there was a food like that here then he would have any easy choice of what he should buy.

Candy looked puzzled for a moment. Stories? Did he mean like, anecdotes or actual legends? She gazed at the case and each treat one by one.

"Well there's....uhm..." she wracked her brain, and a bit of information popped into her head. She smiled gleefully and pointed to the chocolate doughnuts in the case.

"Chocolate used to be only in the southern part of the world. And it was really expensive. like, one of the most prized foods in the world! Only the really powerful phonies would be able to afford it. But then explorer phonies went to the southern continents and brought it back and learned to grow cocoa beans. And that's how chocolate got to be more easily found!" She finished her story triumphantly, happy that she had read 'A History Of Confections and Sweets' all that time ago.

"But I mean, that's not the only special sweet I have in here." she went on to say, not realizing that she was digging herself a hole.

Mooncake stared up at her in awe as she told him about chocolate. With a giggle and a clap of his hooves he beams up at her. "Oh? Is it the aztecs that first had it? I think I might have read something about that and the European settlers. What's the best kind of chocolate thing you have here? Is it just the doughnuts? Do you have anything like the original chocolate treats? Weren't they spicy or something. Oh wait! Maybe it was that they had blood in them."

His wings began to flap frantically as he grew more excited at the possibility of being told more stories. "What other special sweets do you have?" He smiled and began to look into the case expectantly.

Candy Dandy's smile faded just a little bit. Oh...dear..he already knew that one? Well now she didn't sound smart at all! And she had whipped the foal into a frenzy. He was flittering around case quite happily.

"B-blood!?" she gasped, covering her mouth with a hoof. "How terrible! I don't have anything spicy, just the sweet kind of chocolate." she smiled.

"hmmm, there arrrrrrrrrrrrre marshmallows!" She said suddenly. "Marshmallows used to be medicine because they were made from a plant root. It used to cure sore throats. But now that it is made in factories, it doesn't do that anymore!" She pointed to the smores cookies. "Those are s'mores cookies. They have marshmallows, chocolate chunks AND graham crackers in the mix!" It was her own recipe, one that she was very proud of.

Mooncake nodded excitedly. "Oh yes. They're known for their human sacrifices. Blood sacrifices were seen so highly that males were jealous of the ladies ..." He blushes and whispers, "regular bleeding that they would cut themselves to do the same." He practically ducked beneath the counter to hide his embarrassment from that fact. "Spicy chocolate might be good..."

Ducking behind his mop of hair, the little colt listened intently. "I didn't know that." He peeked at the cookies, curious. Medicinal purposes, huh? He's have to find some marshmallows not made in a factory next time he was sick then. "They're good?"

Sacrifices? How, well, icky! Her face turned red when he mentioned....filly things, and she looked anywhere but at Mooncake. Oh dear. This conversation was getting rather strange rather quickly.

"T-these are excellent!" she said, happy to change the subject. "You should definitely have one!" She pulled the tray of s'mores cookies from the case and placed two on a plate. She started to slide it over, but paused halfway.

"You can have these totally free of charge, BUT" she paused, holding up a hoof. "It will cost one joke." she grinned wickedly. Every time jokes came up, she started them. This time, she was going to have one told to her first!

Mooncake beamed as he was offered the snack, but that expression quickly disappeared as the cost was explained to him.

He wasn't too familiar with joke telling. Did he even know any jokes?

The colt paled as he stared at the mare. "Um... Well..." He cleared his throat, trying to recall any joke he might know. "What is the most important part of Greek poetry?" He stared at her, unsure what to do next. Did people actually wait for the person to guess or was he just supposed to say the punch line?

She stared at him expectantly. Jokes were something that no one really needed a talent for, though it did make them funnier. One only needed to remember the joke to tell it. It was perfect for payment!

"What is the most important part of Greek poetry?" she repeated, placing a hoof on her chin. She tried to think of something clever that might be the answer, but her mind drew a blank.

"Hmmm, I don't know the answer! This is a new joke for me!"

"Demeter." Mooncake's face split into an expectant grin. It was funny wasn't it? She was going to laugh now right? It made sense? He hadn't messed it up?

He cleared his throat, waiting for her response. Dread was beginning to grow within him. Maybe he should explain it. "Well, um..."

oh poor Candy and her lack of knowledge of greek things!

Candy blinked a couple of times. She took a moment to think it over, the her face split into anwide grin.

"De-meter!" She said, bursting into a fit of laughter. "Like the way the sentences flows!" She held her side. Suddenly her laughter stopped.

"But who's Demeter?"

Mooncake waited expectantly for her reaction and a grin appeared on his face when it was clear she understood. Well, to an extent. "Mhmm," he mumbled, nodding, happy that he'd made her laugh. "That's right," he chuckled.

As she replied with a question his eyes went wide. "You don't know who Demeter is?" The colt bit his lip, wishing he knew a joke that was less... Nerdy. "Demeter is the greek goddess of the harvest. Her daughter Persephone was kidnapped by the god of the underworld, Hades, and she was thrown into a depression. Because she was so sad all the plants withered away. That myth is how the greeks explained seasons."

"Oooooo it's like a joke and a lesson all in one!" She did love to learn things, and this was a juicy tidbit of information! Maybe she would make something in the fall and call it 'Demeter's Cookie" or something, you know, good.

She slid the s'mores cookies to Mooncake, saying "That joke definitely deserves a reward!" She watched him expectantly, but avoided looking creepy. Candy Dandy was always eager to find out what phonies thought of her treats, and Mooncake was under the same scrutiny.

"Ah, yeah." Mooncake chuckled, somewhat embarrassed by his own joke. It certainly seemed pretty corny now that he thought about it and the more he thought the more his face colored.

"Thank you," the colt mumbled, grateful for the treat and curious about how the cookie would taste. They certainly looked far from any sort of traditional snack or popular asian candy. The purple flutter nibbled on one of the edges somewhat cautiously. The marshmallow made it chewy but not overwhelmingly so and there was a good balance with the chocolate and the other flavors. "This is good." He giggled quietly, eating at a quicker pace now that his initial assessment was done.
